Megadeth and Metallica sound more technical. Anthrax has sort of a punk feel. Slayer is fast but in a narrow way. All 4 bands are great. I personally pick Megadeth.

There are lots of bands much heavier than slayer, and yeah smaller markets, not sure how it's a bad thing in any way.

@Mr. Earth I know like 90 percent of Megadeths/Slayers/Metallica's riffs from their first 3-4 albums. Hell no. Megadeth's riffs are much harder overall. Holy Wars alone is probably harder than any other big 4 riff. Anthrax's riffs are pretty hard too and take good amount of stamina. Slayers are relatively simple and Metallica's as well though metallica has some complex ones like Master of Puppets.
Imo the level of complexity is Megadeth > Metallica = Anthrax > Slayer
Though James's Downpicking on certain songs is just absolutely insane.

@@SamuelSouza-di6nq u don't seem to know what heavy is. Sure megadeth is speed but its substantially more high piched than the other big 4, thus meaning it is the less heavy of the 4. And it is by far also more melodic.

They represent a different side of Thrash, namely the East coast. I mean your got Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer in Cali where everything's more polished and cleaned up, and then you've got Anthrax coming out of NY where it's dirtier and grungy with more punk vibes than in the Bay Area scene, there's nothing polished about them, same goes for Overkill and Nuclear Assault.
Many people have done this, but I want to make my own. Here is what makes each band unique:
Metallica: Iconic, popular, dynamic, and has the best riffs.
Anthrax: Energetic, simple, catchy, and has the best vibe.
Slayer: Heavy, dark, brutal, fast, and has the best sound
Megadeth: Technical, complex, competitive, and has the best solos
Any ideas for improving this list?

Been listening to A LOT of Anthrax for the past 2 weeks and I can honestly say that they are extremely underrated and overlooked.
They have the best bass, best drums next to Lombardo and honestly, I enjoy Anthrax's riffs the most. They just carry that sexy groove and flavor that none of the other 3 bands do. Scott Ian is a master od his craft, one of the best rhythm guitarists of all time.
Metallica - Thash and pretty heavy.
Anthrax - Having fun and good tempo.
Megadeth - Very technically advanced.
Slayer - Hardcore thrash.

I would personally say megadeth is the least "thrash" as their music is focused on complex and interesting riffs with a dash of thrash on the side. Anthrax definitely has super fast and simple thrash songs that I would personally say are more "thrash". I'm prolly biased tho, they're my favorite of the 4
