There is nothing wrong being married early or late. It is all about a purpose of your life, definition of happiness, etc. If you want to start a family, and create memories of being in family, getting married is great no matter what age you are, but if you just want to keep yourself independent then marriage isn't for you

    • @PHlophe

The thing is you don't really need marriage in the first place just to be with the person for lifetime. Relationship is about being together not about contract. What's the point of marriage if you can just divorce later on. Also age matters when it comes to building a family. You can't build a family with an old infertile women and that's a fact.

@@craiver00I agree. What’s the point in getting married for the first time if you’re already reaching an age where you’re considered old?
I’m not insulting anybody deciding to marrying at a later point in their lives, but there’s still a limit even to that.
And starting a family in a later time in life is not something to be taken lightly. For one thing, fertility in both men and women starts declining rapidly, and they won’t have the same amount of energy to take care of children as when they’re younger.
If I were to have suddenly found a “true love” by the time I reach my fifties, I would never think of going through with marriage, let alone having children for the first time. It would be pointless.
If I knew I would be heading that direction, then I’m better off living single for the rest of my life, and not have to ever worry about marriage.

      @7thCobweb 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

TheDxbrown the real underlying issue here is that women lose their value at a certain age. men can get married even when they get older up til their 50s. women's value, according to patriarchal society, is tied to childbearing and beauty. so basically either u are fuckable or u make children but u are never a whole person. patriarchy is alive and well bc it is a system that in most cases and across many situations favors men. this is why women's opinions are important on issues like marriage. comments like yours contribute to seeing street interviews likw thia as negative. even when women speak out, they tend to be ignored or even demonized. if u care about dismantling patriarchy u should educate ys on the issue with real literature, form an opinion, then speak. support japanese women when they have a chance to say what they think

    • @TheDxbrown
      @TheDxbrown 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Venus I’m not being negative. I want to know both sides of the story because I live in Japan and I’m super interested in the reason they’re having all these social issues. I don’t care about “dismantling patriarchy” because that’s not the cure for the problems in Japan. The men here are already emasculated enough. I just wanted to hear how the Japanese men feel about this subject. I can almost guarantee that the majority of men who would have been interviewed would say that it’s easier to not get married because they don’t want to have to make more money to take care of a family. Japan is very expensive, and having a family here is a stressor that neither women nor men want to deal with. Thoughts?

I’ve been living in Japan over 4 years now and dating a Japanese girl too, and from my experience Japanese men are always reluctant, don’t wanna take responsibility, and enjoy the moment without saving up or planning to marry someone. They always say it’s too early until they realize it’s too late. One more factor is both men and women cheat which ruins the relationship and lose faith in one another . They’ve the mentality which is kinda ok to play/ cheat or do whatever until marriage but they don’t realize that mentality keeps them away from marriage.

It is not about that. Human body one day started to have pain and can't endure anymore fit. We know we can't count on other people (friends) as we were in younger days, because our peers started to get married and have other priorities(kids) and left us out. Basically, we as human just need connection, since we are biologically repgrogrammed to survive if you are living in a group compare when you are alone. If we are left out, then subconsciously we might want to search the connection to other human being, by marriage (having partner and having kids). Plus, woman has biological time when they reach certain age might be too dangerous to have baby.
Social Connection is basic human needs. If you are the only one left out due to your peers already married, you must be also want to be like them, since they started to rarely hangout with you and prioritize their kids. When they are older, they won't have energy to spend outside since they are taken care by their grown-up children. They will have social Contact with their children and grandchildren. I mean, no human can live alone up to 80 years without other human connection. Even research shows lonely people who lack social connection die faster death than heart attack. Plus, it is impossible to drag your body by yourself to hospital when you already very old. Not many countries provide perfect elderly care. Because family has our trust, nurse is complete stranger, paid by us to take care of us, while family is pure love.
This is why I re-think whether I need marriage or stay single. Both choices has their own consequences. However, I do believe living with other human and babies gives our life's meaning that we are needed and our social needs are fulfilled.
As humans, we often followed what is the most dominated values in our society since we are afraid of the consequences we had to endure (being left, critized, ignored, etc). I even re-think marriage cause I live in a country where family-oriented is more dominant rather than happy meaningful single life like America. Even a TH-camr in my country must move to US due to her choosing child-free, not only because of negative stigma, but also she wants to feel connected to other people's in America since most people live child-free. Similar values increase our chance of survival with other human's being instead of just being alone and isolated since you live in country with dominant family-oriented society. (if you never marry your whole life).
It is just my perspective. We may want to life free forever, but sad, social consequences pushes us to do something we are even unhappy about, due to our fear of consequences of being left out. We had no choice. We just want to survive.

The "Christmas Cake" term is just downright sexist. If Japanese women nowadays don't want to get married then don't judge them. Getting married and having kids isn't the only way a woman can be happy. And after I learned how normal it is for Japanese men to cheat on their wives and would like it if women act as defenseless, spineless airheads who will depend on them 100% to boost their ego (thanks to the toxic Kawaii culture), I can't blame them for not wanting to settle down. Women these days want men who treat them as equals, but with the misogyny reeking in Japanese society, a kind of man like that is a rarity.

But really the thing that is more concerning is the child birth rate declining in Japan (for example).
You don't technically have to get married and then have kids. You can have kids, and then later have the formal ceremony or just get the marriage authenticated without the elaborate event & save a ton of money and time.
I really don't think it's any of your work place's business asking if you're going to get married or assume that because you're single you have more time.

It's not about the age! It's not about the number.
People should marry when they find true love, when they find the right person for themselves.
Marriage is a way of showing that two people choose to spend rest of their life together and possibly create their own family with having children.
A lot of people have these days kids with multiple partners.
    And don't marry.
But my opinion is chose one person for life and look after eachother. Don't cheat or lie to eachother.
Create a safe home for your children and raise them with good morals and values.
Two people marry and stay together until they die. Sounds maybe old fashioned.
But in the end of the day that's what is a stable environment for a child. Mother, father and children.
People who plan to cheat should not get married at all.
Marriage should be seen as something sacred. It's special.
    Not as a burden.
People should find someone who truely loves them and not have some picky unrealistic expectations.
I think those who are most picky usually are the most retarded once with unrealistic expectations.
It's about to marry someone whom you can trust fully.
Who will be there for you always.
In western marriages they say in sickness and in health!
I feel like Japanese men want very young looking immortal women while women want rich man.
It's all so superficial and no wonder so many cheat there and live miserable life's.
    They marry for wrong reasons.
Marry for love and not for society expectations!
However love is not only what you say but also what you do. Treat your partner right!

I am a filipina who's turning 29 and I am not seeing anyone nor plan on seeing someone soon. I think in any culture, women suffer more pressure when it comes to settling down. Biologically speaking, it's the root of the elders' anxiousness. But in my perspective, seeing someone whom you'll connect with and be financially prepared is rare these days. Women today are not fit for being just housewives. They can bring the bacon home, too. So i guess that's one more reason why many women struggle to get married these days.

I think, more than a cultural tradition, getting married at a determined age is important for women because there's a biological clock, the doctors say that by 30's woman's bodies go through changes that can led to difficulties in getting pregnant, and giving birth. So definitely we (women) if we decide to have a family, we have to plan for it, many women leave this to end, because of work or other issues, but in the end they have many problems in having children, nature can't wait people.

@@Nabila-dx8xf @Nori Sushi, I'm talking about the probabilities of risks gets higher as the older you get, it's not about medicine, it's not the same to have a baby at 39 than having one at 29, your bones, your skin, your body in general it's way more different, just because everyone does it now days doesn't mean it's okay, and yes there will be many women that do it but doctors always recommend to have babies until 35(and after that age go to a medical check before getting pregnant to view any circumstances), cause beyond that the probabilities of difficulties during pregnancy gets higher, it's not medical care, it's about biological nature, the older you get, the less eggs your body products, that can lead to early infertility in some women, also there is a genetic predisposition and factors like diabetes, high pressure, preeclampsia etc and adding a pregnancy after 35 it's like playing with your baby's life and yours, this is basic biology what did they teach you in school?

In Russia, the age of marriage for women ranges from 20-25, for men 25-30 on average. Students finish their studies by the age of 21. It often happens that girls in their last years of university studies already walk with stomachs. Grandparents deal with children, so there are no particular problems. It also gives experience even to young people, but to adult parents.
Suppose my parents had known each other for 5 years before marriage - therefore they are strangers to each other. It is also common.

another thing is that in Japan it`s still common for people to live at their parents` house untill they get married. It`s very rare for couples to start living together before marriage. Then you get a lot of people who are dating for years, never living together, then move together after getting married and suddenly finding out they can`t stand living together, so they get divorced quickly.
