    It's interesting to see the generational differences. Because of the age structure of Japan, just looking at the entire population as a whole might not give you a good understanding when it comes to a topic like this. You need to dig deeper.
    But a lot of information about japan isn't translated into English. So if you want to learn Japanese with me, I will send you Japanese lessons where I teach you the kind of Japanese that real-life Japanese people speak. Click here and subscribe bit.ly/3q9N0rV

      @@buahkelapaliar8829 Well, I can partially agree. Japanese people are generally non-confrontational, often choosing to say nothing rather than speak up about something which could potentially cause an argument. Whether or not that means they'd feign support or that they genuinely don't care (in the sense that same-sex people can marry) could be a point of contention, as both things can be attributed to a desire to avoid confrontation. I'd like to believe that Japanese people are more supportive of that, at least the younger ones (think about the diversity in manga/anime regarding sexualities, I don't think it's simply a kink), it's not a super prejudiced country (maybe somewhat ignorant/traditional in certain aspects but not outright hateful).

    This just makes me so happy. Like, really happy. I've always wanted to go to Japan once I learn the language but have always been afraid of negative reactions to my community in general. However, as many Japanese people don't openly discuss feelings or opinions in general outside of groups of friends, I felt I could perhaps adapt. That being said, needing to hide myself away and emotionally distance myself from others just to blend in would be incredibly lonely. It makes me very happy to see so many people embrace change and accepting that many people are just different in many ways. I try to see it from all sides as much as possible, but the positive reaction in this video is just very uplifting. Very awesome

    I am a lesbian and was openly gay from the age of 12 until I left Japan in my early 20s.
    While I did experience some homophobia (which you will experience everywhere), the main reaction I got from most Japanese people was to complely ignore and never discuss the issue.
    I think this comes down to the Japanese culture of not wanting to offend anyone with divisive opinions, so it better so just say nothing and ignore the issue.
    So while I did feel accepted, at the same time I felt alone because I felt I couldn't be myself, as any time I brought up the topic of girlfriends or women I liked, the subject would be changed.
    Over time I just learned not to speak of it, except with my closest friends.
    So I would say that you are unlikely to experience any major homophobia, but at the same time don't expect the average Japanese person to be ready to discuss any topics surrounding it.

      There is a specific subculture in Japan (that may exist in other countries too) of men who act super macho and arrogant.
      The man at 2:09 is perfect example.
      When they see you with a girl, they get angry and offensive. They think you should be with them and they make sexual comments and rude remarks to you.
      If you reject their advances then they get even more insulting.
      You usually find them in nightlife spots and around bars.
      Most of the homophobia I had came from these kind of men.

    The declining birth rate issue is totally different then the marriage equality issue. You want to know why there is a declining birth rate? Because when women get married, they are expected to no longer have jobs and to be a full time house wife, which is not something most women want to commit to. I think instead of worrying that the gays are not going to marry women and therefore not having children, they should re-evaluate the real issue behind the declining birth rate.

    • @adorablerepresentativemcfo9892
      @adorablerepresentativemcfo9892 4 ปีที่แล้ว +59

      yes and i also think that, it's not that gay couples can't have children because they're gay, if they want to, they can get a sperm donor. (or adopt, but that's besides my point) i think it's stupid to blame the gays because homosexuality has existed for forever. (like that one guy said in the video) i think that some of those people are just trying to find an excuse for their homophobia.

    • @tjqueen_
      @tjqueen_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +54

Some women die during childbirth, or get pregnant young and feel they can't take care of it, so they give it up for adoption if abortion isn't an option. A lot of these orphans come from third world countries where mothers are less equipped to deal with them, then there's other factors like rape etc. Also there's things like disease and famine, so the parents may die before the kid's even a toddler. Don't blame those people because it isn't always their fault. What we should be doing is encouraging adoption and putting children in safe foster homes.

    One of the great things about homosexual relationships is that even if they can't have kids they can always adopt one that needs a home. Sometimes we don't need more children... why not help those that are in need already :)
    Edit: Omg I'm sorry if I started a small rant. I was saying that most homosexual couples aren't able to get children so it may lead to adoption. But most homosexual people are hated due to the fact they can't have children. And I was agreeing that there are teens and small children that need adopting all over the world and most people forget that. It's okay to have your opinions.

When a population of people act indifferent, this can be reassuring since it is better than nothing and it's usually framed in a way that isn't hostile or overly obnoxious. However, indifference can be very dangerous if extreme urgency, action, or "taking sides" is required. For instance, if a group of people were being persecuted, murdered, caged, and beaten for something they cannot change, is it morally right or even progressive for the situation to say "It's none of my business. I'm fine with whatever"? I don't want this to sound like I'm attacking you because like I said, I absolutely agree that indifference is appreciated, but that's all it really deserves: appreciation. In cases where extreme urgency is required, indifference could truly be the reason for how humanity self-destructs.

      @@samhwwg I would say it is not a valid CONCLUSION because it is too much conjecture from not enough data. But it definitely is an interesting discussion to have.
      In my experience, it is more socially acceptable for women to be "bi-curious" than for men. A lot more "straight" women try kissing or having sex with other women than men do with other men. I don't know why. Maybe women are less straight on average, maybe it's mainly indoctrination.
      So if we assume Japan is similar to my experience in Canada, women might have more of a first-hand experience hence the "If they love each other". They can personally understand why a person would marry another person of the same sex; because they, themselves, might have felt attraction towards another woman in their lifetime. Whilst the men might have not, so they don't personally feel concerned or connected, or might even not understand the appeal (attraction towards same gender) but they don't care who others like.
