  • Well...this wasn't planned, but it happened. I traded my 2016 991.1 GT3 RS for the 2019 991.2. I guess you'll have to watch to understand the fuzzy rationale on why I did it.

  • @damachine3
    @damachine3 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    5:42 I have a Master's degree, with an emphasis in finance, and the stuff he says here should be a given to consumers...but it's amazing how so many people don't understand the basics and focus on a payment. I'm just speaking about the financial principle itself, regardless of one's personal budget. As for me personally, I also prefer to do loans on cars for the same reason (because I can keep the money invested at a higher return in the market), but my wife's dad went bankrupt and she hates debt, so she makes me pay for everything in cash. Even our house is paid off when we shouldn't have paid it off. That all said, I do keep one loan active...and the reason is to show a credit history in order to keep my credit score up (just in case I ever need a loan one day). That's right, if you don't have any loans at all then you don't show any history and it can hurt your credit score over time.

    • @thewholeeventhorizon
      @thewholeeventhorizon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey I'm the same way. I understand your wife. She likes going to bed at night not owing anyone anything. I do too.

    • @damachine3
      @damachine3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thewholeeventhorizon Yeah, I definitely hate owing, in principle, but I'm OK with it as long as I have the cash to pay it off any time...such that the only reason I'm doing it is because the interest rate is so low that I can make more money by having that cash invested somewhere else (rather than using that to avoid a very small interest charge). That's just smart money management but I totally agree that there's something mental about not having a loan...even if it doesn't make any sense, on paper, to have one.

    • @zjkingsley7
      @zjkingsley7 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Putting money in the "market" against a fixed rate loan is not necessarily a prudent strategy. That is simply a levered equity strategy and can get absolutely rinsed doing that. If you were in moderate to high bonds at a higher rate than your loan, that would be a reasonable "carry trade", but I don't think that's what you're talking about. Average consumers should not leverage their equity portfolios.

    • @damachine3
      @damachine3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zjkingsley7 I'm talking about the scenario where one has looked at their risk tolerance and is investing accordingly for retirement. Now say they are considering taking out a loan and their other option is to not take the loan and, instead, divest out of the "market" (meaning, that portfolio where they have already done the analysis and decided it is good for them to save over the years, using dollar cost averaging by investing every month, for retirement) and pay off the vehicle up front. We already know it's a good thing for them to continue investing and the only question is whether the interest rate on the loan is such that it would be a good thing to avoid the loan by taking money out of the portfolio. If the interest rate on the loan is low enough (when compared to their dollar cost averaging ROI expectation that they have already conducted for the "market"), then they should absolutely keep their money in their portfolio and take on the loan. It's a simple opportunity cost analysis.

    • @cf5814
      @cf5814 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome video & car, great information, I learned quite a bit. I knew they made many changes but not near this many. Thanks and congratulations! p.s. I agree with everything you said except (Probably too late) I would keep the green strips on the wheels for sure-its a wild car, and matches the seats.
