This episode was inspired by all those TCG fans who asked why we didn’t include depreciation in our episode on the costs of owning a supercar collection. Here’s why...
@@TheCarGuysTV This is class. Please Damien, get the LFA as those are too expensive for me now (One got away from me at 375k EUR 3 years ago and I am now sad to report that I will probably not ever get another shot at this price level). So get the LFA for me (of course get it for carguys but I will "ride along" youtube style).

Nice relaxed video Damian. And informative on the market conditions but also that sometimes we just buy cars with our heart - like your Prelude and the 750. And I was surprised at the liquidity of your collection - especially as some other channels have car finance repayments of £20k per month.
Good show. Whether the commodity/product you are investing in is a stock or a bar of gold or a home or a Ferrari, the same mantra applies: buy low, sell high! The Car Guys=winning!
If he's paying cash for all those cars he probably doesn't "need" the 500K he would have made, but I'd sold it as fast as I could sign the paperwork. Either buy a different car for basically free, or by 500K of a growth stock and watch free money make you more free money.
Super video Damien, but as you are aware, the profits and losses only materialise when you sell, until then marginally hypothetical but good none the less. Looking forward to your next annual running costs vid.

I'm not at that car level yet, but I have my 458 spider and 430 Scuderia, with over 142000km at 458 and just over 53000km at Scuderia, I really don't understand buying these cars and not using them, I work to have these " toys "and have fun with them, not just look in the garage! Great video. That TDF. My lord. Still the most special, gorgeous car in your collection for mine. Absolutely love it. Depreciation be damned. Can’t put a price on the fact you actually own one.
This inspired me and I am doing a summary also (will put it on paper for the first time ever) ;-) I am down of course but I drove a lot in all my cars and had huge fun, except for Aston Martin Virage (fun but not much driving sadly) which I hope will go up because market overlooks them too much imo (We bought it pretty cheap and nice condition - interesting car, our piece was the demo shown at Frankfurt Autoshow and later after inspection made as a normal VIN car and sold to its first owner). All my rotary cars are starting to go up now (older classics at least for sure). The Lexus F was bought at the bottom of pricing, I am convinced the 2012 IS F will hold its value from now on. MX5 30th Anniversary is fun and in 10 years would be lower but ok and super fun ownership ;-). The GS F will also stay in nice waters from now on. My small city fun car Swift Sport 2019 will also hold OK as more crazy emissions causing hybridization of it next year and in general small cars are getting killed because of the EU craziness with 95 g/km fines. I am going after Lotus Evora and Porsche next year (Cayman GTS 4.0 or GT4 or 911 GT3 Touring...). We walk on! I am also not financing ;-) maybe if GTS 4.0 bought as new I will do. Love the real ownership aspect. To have it and care.
I 110% agree with you about financing cars, I'll never do that (again), like you said the bank owns the car not you. I don’t have the collection you have, I own a MGA, MGB GT V8, 240Z and 993 Porsche so a fraction of the value of one just one of your cars. The problem I have is storing the damn things!! I live in Sydney and as you are no doubt aware whatever you pay for a car in the UK, you can basically double the cost in Oz. Like you, I thought about my exit strategy for each vehicle before I bought it and fingers crossed each of my cars is worth more than I paid for it. It’s probably the same in the UK as here, in that unique cars are now being purchased as investments by speculators, rather than car guys (sorry for the pun) meaning the costs have skyrocketed.
@@TheCarGuysTV Thanks; like you said before in your 993RS review it's lots more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow!! Even with these the only place I've been able to stretch any of their legs is when I competed in an event at Mt Panorama coming down Conrod foot to the floor (scary)!!
Still I think that the money side of car collecting is not your focus at all, and I think this video backs that up...mad respect guys! Wouldn't want to factor in inflation's devaluing said profits also...but hey, you can't take it with you anyways so why the hell not have as much fun as possible? The cool thing about your collection is that the focus appears to be to have fun, and not status; very admirable in my eyes considering. Can't wait for the next video guys.
I don't think inflation has really been a factor over such a short space of time. The collection's definitely about fun, and a lot of it is silly and wasteful - but like you said, you've got to have fun while you're alive
I agree with you on the LT Damian, maclaren are making so many models now that the LT is starting to feel like their first ‘classic’ from the current range, starting from the 12C.
Agree 100% with the finance arguments! Never thought you had any cars on finance... I have a '98 Jeep Wrangler and a '15 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG and no finance. Sleep a lot better... On the other side I have never counted on boats and cars - those I do with love... 😊 Then a company car, enough said. Keep up the good work! 👍
Great review...can't disagree with anything, if your portfolio is being run for investment, which I didn't think it was, but it's always nice to make money on it while you play. Should the TDF and Stradale go and make room for a 288 GTO? Given your view on the aperta future value? As for your v12 BMW I think it's a sweet spot in BMW's... looks wise, so I would have to join your mugs club. As for your view on ownership agree entirely... hence my little fleet is significantly smaller and all at a loss, but I don't care....
First of all - thank you for driving your cars and not only store them. Cars like these are meant to be used. Second - Nice to find someone who buys them ( both cars and watches btw) I do the same even though all the banks want me to finance and then let them invest my money. Call me old fashioned but I prefer to make money, then pay the damn tax and then buy what I want and then use them. Btw how do you see the future (5 years from now) of the 718 spyder ?
Glad you enjoyed it. I'm sure 718 Spyders are going to be well-driven for the next 5 years - they seem to be bought by real drivers and enthusiasts who enjoy them.
Youve done the right thing owning. Ferrari's are fickle. I saw a 328 GTS near me ( 3 kms from the heart of the city Sydney, Australia) a few days ago. Price is: $AU187,OOO OR £93,500 It has very low mileage e.g only 8,500 kms. It was selling for £20,000 only 4 years ago.
Excellent vid, pure escapism for me!! My father had a rare '95 740i with a 6 speed manual in the same colour as your 750i. Perhaps not available in the UK as we lived in Belgium at the time. Definitely the nicest 7 series ever made to date. I'm in awe of your collection, but I have to say I'm glad I don't have to think about how much mileage I'm putting on my 991.2 C2S (which I purchased new and outright back in 2018). I don't ever plan to sell it anyway and the kids love it too much. Driving it when I want and as much as I want is a truly liberating experience and has allowed me to bond with it.. Anyway, Love your work!
Morning, I have a 550-2 manual 2011 non Balboni. These never come up for sale, what do thing its worth in comparison to the Balboni? There may be less of these than the Balboni? Thanks
Agree 100% on 675LT, a very special car, 60% of the parts are bespoke to the 675 and almost the entire body is painted CF apart from the roof, front wings & bonnet (which could be optioned as such). Its a full 100 kilos lighter than the 650, quite an achievement and only 50 RHD coupes. You can add me to your list of purchasers as I bought a chicane grey coupe last week with the club sport processional pack. All the 'well' specified cars now seem to have permanent homes and supply is drying up with only a handful left for sale.
Thank you so much for sharing this information. Cars are to be driven. So when you’re stating the car has covered A LOT of miles at -say 6000- I get very upset. Please enjoy driving your gorgeous collection! Some of these cars require expensive maintenance, whether you drive them or not. Your beloved 355 eats maintenance at a very high rate...
You're making a good point with the finance! It's like when someone says i've just bought a house! No you didn't! That's the bank house for the next 25 years and you're just a tenant in your own house!
Well done. Very interesting. I finance my own too. 5 out of 6 have made money. Only real loss is my every day current Range Rover, but I have stuck 70k miles on it. It can be done.
Nice appreciation on the Speciale Aperta 👏🏻. Although to ‘make’ that gain and be offered one new, you’ve got to buy a lot of standard Ferraris first, so I would offset all previous Ferrari losses on that gain first and see where you stand!
Andrew Hurst he said previously that all he had to buy was his 458. Right place right time but not the first I know that just had to buy a 458 to get a Aperta.
I cannot understand the markets fascination with ultra ultra low milage supercars. They are designed to be driven, designed to be enjoyed - if you can afford to buy one - you can afford to service and repair one. I'd much rather buy a car which has been used enjoyed and serviced than one which has been laid up and unused as an investment ornament. Your Tdf is a case in point - to me the miles you have put on it makes it far more appealing to me at least - its been enjoyed - and whilst I appreciate the need to keep things sensible on a fiscal scale - I wish the market would appreciate that sensible milage on such machinery is a good rather than a bad thing. Enjoyable film, and very thought provoking 👍
Another fabulous episode. I suspected the collection from you guys would be paid for so great to have that confirmed. Doing things right (again). Was the 718 Spyder too new to be included? Also, love the diversity of the collection
Hi Rico, thanks for your kind comments. Yes the 718 was too new for this episode - it was filmed before. Current appreciation for that model is £10-15k up.
Great insights Damian, such a great collection. I saw a film recently with Charlie Sheen called “No Mans Land” was full of 930’s and other great Porsche’s your 930 would have fitted in a treat...
Excellent video, really informative and interesting and i couldnt agree more about paying for cars outright which i do with cars and bikes. Keep up the great content and buying what you actually like and being a great TH-cam channel precisely because you are not like the others
Brilliant insight, that TDF tho, that premium and loss is obscene! I must say that phantom coupe is an elegant beast, totally agree will steadily appreciate. Prefer the face lift straight head light version more but the face lifts still have some depreciation in them.
Thanks for the video. Glad you also covered your losses buying into the Ferrari family too. I think both the McLaren and tdf will recover over time, but am always appalled that low mileage is seen as a good thing and dislike the ‘limited issue idea (economics I know). In my ideal world cars would be valued higher because they are great to drive, sound fantastic and look awesome only. But in my ideal world I could buy what I wanted anyway. More top Car Guys content 👍
Ah yes my favourite subject ! , I avidly watch all online auctions from the likes of Bonhams, RM sothebys aswell as Barrett Jackson for the US muscle car scene . I read a report the other day from one of the auction houses and they said both the Speciale Aperta and the TDF will both be worth Enzo money within ten years , so I guess it's a case of watch this space . I always wanted a mk 1 Gallardo superleggera after watching the top gear episode with the greatest European driving road.
Can't wait for Levante to depreciate! Just love love love the design of it! To my eyes there has never been a better looking Suv than Maserati Levante!
Interesting and highly unusual carvideo I have to say, but very entertaining and informative. Speaking for myself, I would be very interested to hear from you Damian, what the registrations are worth. Overhere on the other side of the Northsea, we are not so fortunate that we can choose / buy our preferred registrations, no, we just have to wait and see what the RDW ( sort of DVLA) is issuing on our new cars. Or on imported Oldtimers like mine, for that matter. You have quite a number of personalized registrations with DB in it, which might also be interesting for Aston Martin owners? I can imagine i.e. DB 7 or DB 11 would be appreciated by them too. Plus you have BO55 TDF on the... well, TDF ofcourse. And 657 LT on the McLaren. I imagine that these 'special' registrations of yours could generate a considerable amount of cash? Your comments please Sir... Cheers! RdV
Hi there, the value of reg plates varies enormously depending on recognisability and the smallest combination of letters and numbers. The market is very difficult to predict because each number is unique but you can get a vague idea from similar plates. For me 675LT and 72 DB are probably the most valuable, but there’s no guarantee of any sale in the future, so I just assume they are all worthless. Certainly, the UK has a ref plate market unlike almost all other countries in the world.
@@TheCarGuysTV Thanks for your comment Damian. Yes I know that Nick Mason has some real gems on his cars... One is reputedly worth over a cool million..... wow...
Thanks Damian that was awesome, so you’re still quids in if you running cost for 12 months was £82k What a brilliant hobby if you’ve got the cash well jealous, I would do exactly the same if I got the money

Never seen so much transparency in any TH-cam channel
First time I have heard a car youtuber who doesn't finance their cars, honestly what a refreshing thing to hear, keep up the great work guys
I thought it was worth mentioning, as we do get lots of comments about how much the finance must be costing us.
you know youre a real baller when all your cars are paid for in cash
Thats the outcome of getting these without the help of youtube
Meanwhile we know of a “Racing Driver” who’s constantly buying cars using finance and post videos about how he is selling his cars to fund his racing
This is why I love this channel - open and honest.
Thanks, Robin

@@TheCarGuysTV Absolutely!
I watch all the big car youtubers but this is 100% my favourite
Thank you very much, Backon
Thanks for the open and honest video! What a privilege to outright own all those cars, good on you as you both seem genuinely nice guys!
Thanks, Xander
I agree with you on the LT Damian, maclaren are making so many models now that the LT is starting to feel like their first ‘classic’ from the current range, starting from the 12C.
That Gallardo is one of my favourite cars of all time. Looks unbelievable. Congratulations for owning it👏
Thanks, Dylan
A magnificent video, full of great info' with hilarious graphics/sound effects.
One of your absolute best episodes.....Thanks!
Thanks, Duncan
Agree 100% with the finance arguments! Never thought you had any cars on finance...
I have a '98 Jeep Wrangler and a '15 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG and no finance. Sleep a lot better... On the other side I have never counted on boats and cars - those I do with love... 😊
Then a company car, enough said.
Keep up the good work! 👍
Great transperancy! How much does it cost to run the fleet per year in terms of insurance and servicing?
Fascinating insights. Thanks. How do you keep tabs on detailing, maintenance schedules, even tax and MoT with so many cars all in regular use?
A big spreadsheet but I still often forget
Best car channel on TH-cam! Honest, informative and fun to watch so keep up the good work.
Thanks
Youve done the right thing owning.
Ferrari's are fickle. I saw a 328 GTS near me ( 3 kms from the heart of the city Sydney, Australia)
a few days ago. Price is:
$AU187,OOO OR £93,500
It has very low mileage
e.g only 8,500 kms.
It was selling for £20,000 only 4 years ago.
Sounds about right
The Pista is going to help things further. Interesting insight, thank you! Love that you have a Prelude. :)
Thanks, Scott Send us a pic of that CS2 on Instagram
@@TheCarGuysTV Will do! I'm new to Instagram.. so bear with me..
@@TheCarGuysTV just tried to send a pic.. not sure if it has worked..
Brilliant video. Admire your honesty. I reckon you could be +/- 50k on that valuation. Refreshing.
Well done Guys! Like the Cars and Watches , Another very original concept!
I absolutely love your collection. Of all you~tubers including shemee it's my favorite
Morning, I have a 550-2 manual 2011 non Balboni. These never come up for sale, what do thing its worth in comparison to the Balboni? There may be less of these than the Balboni? Thanks
I’m with you 100%, buy what you can afford, enjoy and sleep at night. You can enjoy more than most so great to see you share it with its 🤓
Just watched the costings video as well great insights into the world of car collection great videos thanks
You’re most welcome, Tom
Baller AF. Great job guys!
👍👍
Just when I thought your content couldn’t get any better. Best channel on TH-cam guys.
Thank you, Dave.
Great video ...honest, open & refreshing.
Thank you
that Phantom coupe is all sorts of cool. Nice interiour spec too.
Really, only 50 RHD coupes? Wow. Hopefully in the future they will rise and become well-known as one of the best supercars of all time.
I love your channel, it is compulsive Friday night viewing. Keep it coming Car Guys 👍
👍👍
Thank you so much for sharing this information. Cars are to be driven. So when you’re stating the car has covered A LOT of miles at -say 6000- I get very upset. Please enjoy driving your gorgeous collection! Some of these cars require expensive maintenance, whether you drive them or not. Your beloved 355 eats maintenance at a very high rate...
You're making a good point with the finance! It's like when someone says i've just bought a house! No you didn't! That's the bank house for the next 25 years and you're just a tenant in your own house!
Seems a little different with a house, cant imagine there are many people at all who don't have a mortgage on their house
@@tobybrown1194 then don't say it's your house:)
Really enjoyed the video guys 👍
It would be great to hear about the previous cars too, like the F40 and 488, although I know you said the 488 cost in it’s final video.
Another outstanding video. Thanks much !!
Thanks, Mark
Great honest video!!
Well done. Very interesting. I finance my own too. 5 out of 6 have made money. Only real loss is my every day current Range Rover, but I have stuck 70k miles on it. It can be done.
👍👍
Nice appreciation on the Speciale Aperta 👏🏻. Although to ‘make’ that gain and be offered one new, you’ve got to buy a lot of standard Ferraris first, so I would offset all previous Ferrari losses on that gain first and see where you stand!
Andrew Hurst he said previously that all he had to buy was his 458. Right place right time but not the first I know that just had to buy a 458 to get a Aperta.
355 Spider + F40 + CS + 458 = 458 Sp A
TheCarGuys.TV ah you did well then! 👏🏻👍🏻
I agree, but if you are in the buying seat, you are going to want one that's as close to new as possible.
Very interesting - thanks for sharing! Brilliant channel ...
Thanks 👍👍
Great insight and great to see that you actually OWN the cars instead of the ubiquitous loaned cars
Thought it was worth mentioning...
Damian, is their any value in the reg plates, like the ‘685 LT’ or ‘H7 NDA’?
Some, but impossible to gauge
Very interesting vid your black Lamborghini looked fantastic.
Thanks
That GT3 Touring is the best
It is a beauty
Another fabulous episode. I suspected the collection from you guys would be paid for so great to have that confirmed. Doing things right (again). Was the 718 Spyder too new to be included? Also, love the diversity of the collection
Hi Rico, thanks for your kind comments. Yes the 718 was too new for this episode - it was filmed before. Current appreciation for that model is £10-15k up.
TheCarGuys.TV thanks for taking the time to reply and for the additional update 👍
Great insights Damian, such a great collection. I saw a film recently with Charlie Sheen called “No Mans Land” was full of 930’s and other great Porsche’s your 930 would have fitted in a treat...
I still really need to see this film, did you finding it on a streaming service - I can't find it anywhere?
TheCarGuys.TV a friend in Dubai had in in DVD.....try this link www.amazon.com/No-Mans-Land-Charlie-Sheen/dp/B00007EFIK
What about a classy Veyron as the F40 replacement?
Oh come on, do you not think they are ageing really well now? I do.
Great vid. Enjoying the channel, keep it up.
Thanks
If you cant afford to buy a car twice you cant afford it. Wise words I was once told :)
Excellent video, really informative and interesting and i couldnt agree more about paying for cars outright which i do with cars and bikes. Keep up the great content and buying what you actually like and being a great TH-cam channel precisely because you are not like the others
Thanks, Gad
I wasn't looking forward to finding out at first, but pleasantly surprised. Great video
I was the same!
Agree and optimistic on the 675LT
Brilliant insight, that TDF tho, that premium and loss is obscene! I must say that phantom coupe is an elegant beast, totally agree will steadily appreciate. Prefer the face lift straight head light version more but the face lifts still have some depreciation in them.
Yep
Another great video - channel gets better and better
Cheers 👍
Thanks for the video. Glad you also covered your losses buying into the Ferrari family too. I think both the McLaren and tdf will recover over time, but am always appalled that low mileage is seen as a good thing and dislike the ‘limited issue idea (economics I know). In my ideal world cars would be valued higher because they are great to drive, sound fantastic and look awesome only. But in my ideal world I could buy what I wanted anyway. More top Car Guys content 👍
Thanks, Dave
Ah yes my favourite subject ! , I avidly watch all online auctions from the likes of Bonhams, RM sothebys aswell as Barrett Jackson for the US muscle car scene . I read a report the other day from one of the auction houses and they said both the Speciale Aperta and the TDF will both be worth Enzo money within ten years , so I guess it's a case of watch this space . I always wanted a mk 1 Gallardo superleggera after watching the top gear episode with the greatest European driving road.
Let's hope that's true
Can't wait for Levante to depreciate! Just love love love the design of it! To my eyes there has never been a better looking Suv than Maserati Levante!
You are quite mad :)
One is reputedly worth over a cool million..... wow...
Thanks Damian that was awesome, so you’re still quids in if you running cost for 12 months was £82k
What a brilliant hobby if you’ve got the cash well jealous, I would do exactly the same if I got the money
Glad you enjoyed it
excellent video and one key learning. Diversification.
Thanks, Nick
Very honest about your car collection I really love to watch your videos.
I am looking forward to the Watch Guys TV.
