- Do you ever wonder where certain combos and movements come from in a character? Well, I'm here to tell you guys that everything you know about Urien comes from him.. The legendary RX from Japan aka the GODFATHER of Urien. I got the privilege to play a set against him in Japan. Enjoy me analyzing our set!

RX is the reason I even cared to get good at 3rd strike. I still cant figure out charge partitions 100% lol but learning how to play urien taught me how to be aggressive with charge characters in general. awesome vid!

I'm a simple man: Whenever I see Third Strike, I hit like. Doesn't matter who plays the game - Max, Justin, whoever. Third Strike is a good time.
A simple man perhaps, but a man of refined taste without question.
It's funny, I never played third strike but I have watched so many hours of it it's ridiculous. Some games just hold up against that test of time. Final Fantasy 6 for instance is one of those games. I really think that was the golden age of gaming. Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Legend of Mana, the Final Fantasy games, and many more. With enough special effects, a movie or game can easily be carried in many cases. With both older games and movies, they had you rely on great story telling as the special effects crutch was still decently young. With Third Strike, the fact that people are still learning new tech in a game that's almost two and a half decades old is pretty incredible.

Seen a lot of SF3S videos and I didn't even know Urien could move like that... RX really squeezing every last drop out of him.
RX is magic. So are high tier Remy players. You'd swear charge time is a suggestion after watching them.
Yeah, Pierrot does some absurd shit with Remy and TM is also godlike with Q. And these two characters are considered to be very low tier

This gameplay really showcases why 3S is such a good fighting game. Mind games, execution, tech and reactions. You need them all to compete with the top dogs.
RX T A S ACTIVATED XD
Where Justin is asking where RX got that EX Headbutt leading to the round win of that first game, it's basically a negative input completion. Either 3rd Strike or Alpha was the first to introduce this possibility but what happens is when you make a special move input notion, rotation notion or otherwise, the game will hold that input read for about a second and a half, which allows a quick input of another notion, like that dash, and still allow the player to complete the appropriate intended move input after the in-between. Very tight to pull off but it has been featured quite frequently during Street Fighter IV's time; however, this is a testament to the hand speed and quick thinking of RX to pull this off in 3rd Strike, which has MUCH tighter input timings than the 4 series.
Just call it charge partitioning 💀💀
It's charge partitioning. Doesn't have anything to do with negative edge.
And it's really just a 3s specific mechanic that definitely wasn't in SF4.

I think you are not considering how long a second and a half is in FGs. It is more than enough to fully charge a charge motion in 3s. I don't think such mechanic exists in 3s as you mentioned.

This is why i subscribed, Third Strike action! I don't care that much for fighting games in general, but once i'd tried Third Strike with a friend on Mame.....Wow, This is the greatest "unknown street fighter game" ever, not a single kid i knew had it, when growing up in Sweden. Fantastic graphics, animations, voices, sound effects, combos, supers, everything is just perfect! Such a fun game!
Man I remember watching RX vids back in the day, one of the reasons why I got into sf3 and tried to learn Urien. Very technical character. But RX is reaching artistic levels of skill with how he plays.

When the title said Godfather of Urien, I knew immediately it was RX. If there's one thing I know from 3S, is RX doesn't fuck around.
This man Rx, back in the day, fought in a mirror match, got put in the aegis reflector blender, on wake up parried not only aegis reflector but the attacks from other side and still won the match 😮
Congrats Justin. RX is literally the GOD of Urien. My fav SFIII player. He does things with Urien that no one else can do. Insane!

When i saw the title it reminded me that the reason i started playing with Urien was because of RX, my favorite Urien player. And to my surprise when I started watching the video it was actually him that JW was against.
The way Urien looks when he slams (throw) Chun into the ground and holding her "thighs", it looks like he's about to eat some...groceries.

I know the video is a year old but I wanted to answer your question on why he dashed forward after doing parry on the last hit of your super. He dashed forward so he can make sure aegis would hit after shoulder tackle. If he's any further away after dhp lk shoulder could whiff or aegis could whiff also after lk tackle.

That heavy headbutt tech was pretty nice. You see that a lot with yun players with mixing up shoulders so the parry timing is different to help them spam it for meter.

Dude I remember looking for RX matches on TH-cam back in the day, he made want to main Urien until I realized I don’t have the coordination for charge partitioning or aegis setups
Now I don't even play third strike but it seems to me like regardless of what character you're using if you're facing Urien and he lands the hard knockdown, or even if he lands a soft knockdown if he has Agis reflector available, And is able to establish the Oki shit gets very complicated. I mean seriously, it's nuts.
soft kd + ability to charge like rx = 5/5 mu. its borderline broken when you think abt how he makes soft kd as dangerous as wakeup after eating a super.
@@amphitheatre don't get me wrong I understand the whole Chun-Li,, Ken, Yun dynamic because those are ultimately the best characters in the game. But let's be honest Urien is definitely the best at creating setups that give him pretty much every option. We get some of that in Street fighter 5 although there are options to deal with it somewhat. But in third strike you're basically praying that you guessed correctly

Doing the charge up on a dash in is so incredibly smart and it works so well for urien to since it helps him to close the gap, but damn do I wonder how tight that was
Reminds me of how on Xbox controller I'd hold back on the stick, but using the dpad for overall gameplay so as soon as I'm not pressing forward it's already charging
This is 3s It's not just that he starts charging as soon as he dashes, he partitions the charge, starts the charge, dashes, resumes the charge and does it so smoothly that it doesn't even look like a charge move, it's very tight, If you charge too much nothing comes out, if you charge too little nothing comes out, if you stop charging for a few frames it gets reset
