The ending of this TAS implies that Teddy suffered from a terrible injury (he got stabbed by someone outside of Ellay) and now he has fully recovered singing to children that he doesn't even know. And Ninten writing love letters to a girl he JUST met on top of Mt. Itoi and dragging her to see Teddy's show is pretty unsettling.
It may be outdated, annoying, grind-heavy, unforgiving, lacking personality, lacking humour, completely blown out of the water by its sequels and abusable as hell (as shown in the video), but deep down I believe it is still a good game
well it isn't really a speedrun, it's a TAS(tool assisted speedrun). that means someone gave a bot exact instructions on what movements when to make. I'm not entirely sure if you knew that, I'm just saying it just in case. Edit: Still really impressive nonetheless

I'm assuming it has something to do with the way the melodies flag progress. I.E: assuming you've found these five melodies, the game basically just says "Yeah there's no way you got here without legitimately getting the whole melody right?"

The menuing you see happen occasionally is setting up the perfect frames to either avoid fights altogether, or get the Starman fights you see near the end. Many games like this have their "RNG" set to frames.
it has to do with the menu opening and closing. every time you move your cursor in the menu, a lot of rng elements are altered due to frames passing. its sorta like why some speedrunners in smb1 hesitate before touching the flagpole, waste time to save even more time. the trick also works in mother 2/earrhbound!
Beam3178 he was manipulating RNG for fights. Every time the game is paused, the amount of steps until the next random encounter is reset. I’m guessing the amount of time sitting in the menu sets up the luck for the fights.
So then ending is actually really good since ana reunited with her mom teddy is a singer now the kidnapped grown ups are back and lloyed is a hero at his school but ninten went to sleep after seeing everyone happy since he did help them all mother 2 continues with ness as the new hero going to stop giygas again after discovering a new set of 8 melodies and lucas pulled the last needle and watch his brother die these games are sad in the end like how ninten lost eve even though she protected him and like how lucas lost almost his whole family and then ness said goodbye to his freinds
I played through EB Zero, which had both. It’d make sense for EB Beginnings to have those as well though. Edit: I watched a Mother 1 speedrun, and it seemed that you could walk diagonally but you couldn’t run.

The reason they pause randomly is to avoid enemy encounters. This is a common TAS trick and is useful when doing a save state playthrough.

Mother/Earthbound Beginnings is one of my favorite games. 3rd to be exact, I'm always down for a play though of it even if it has a lot of "grinding"
