I just saw this movie earlier today. People really need to pay attention to the red flags of when their partner hates them. It’s very dangerous to be sleeping with the enemy. Luke wanted to destroy Emily in that movie.
Women love living in denial. If they were paying attention to red flags, every woman would be single and childless.
He absolutely was planning her downfall. But, to be fair, we've all looked past red flags in our work and personal lives. Shit, I had 3 children with the President of the red flag association of America 😂

@@watchwithmeellebee I was also with someone who was not only showing red flags but blaring sirens. I was young and it was before the widespread discussions on the internet. I’m thankful for the information that’s available now. In the past people didn’t talk about gaslighting, verbal abuse or dating narcissists.
You had me absolutely hollering with this review. Truly on the floor. I was lucky enough to see this film with the director awhile back and she said the inspiration was some men she had dated who were not really cool with her success.
A few additions: 1. It is implied that Luke comes from money(getting the job through a family friend, his plans at the end of being financed by his brother's boss, his attendance at Yale). It is explicitly stated Emily doesn't- family from Jersey, scholarship to Harvard, Campbell even comments on it. This comes into play here as well, when Luke begs for the job because it is something he wanted vs when Emily get promoted and Campbell basically tells her that she'd be carrying her boss Rory and that it was her advice/recs that resulted in half the big calls/wins for the firm that quarter(she's great at the job in other words). 2. When she makes that huge commission it is a turning point in the story because she has to choose between Luke's advice- he's advising her to buy a company based on a rumour on the street about the company's inept management which skirts the line of insider trading(another short cut from Luke) vs the play she has come up with which is much less certain- shorting a company because she suspects that the company's creditors who have taken them to court will win a major ruling. In this instance, she ignores Luke, trusts herself and wins big- that's why it eats him up so badly. 3. The parallel of Luke begging on his knees for the job when in his head she got the job by begging on her knees, hilarious!

I remember thinking that when she got the commission check that was going to send him over the edge. It was a physical representation of her not only out ranking him, but making more money than him. His poor fragile ego was broken into a thousand pieces. smh
However, you did miss an important part is when He came into the office and outed him and Emily for sleeping with each other. He told them the whole drawn out story in his own drunken way. That is what made them go at it at the bar when they were supposed to be celebrating their engagement.
And he said she said she would promote him if he per would perform oral sex on her

This was a good old boys type of mentality in the office. She was the only girl. She worked her way to the top. She was totally happy for him to get a promotion. She put herself on the back burner for him. And this is what happens ladies when you put yourself on the back burner for a man.
Bingo. I have 3 boys and one of my goals in life is to raise my boys to be supportive spouses and break this patriarchal BS that I have had to deal with.

Listen, I don’t know how I knew, but something told me, Elle is going to review this movie! When I tell you, I feel bamboozled and hoodwinked by the trailer for this film. I felt like I was watching the Lifetime network all over again. 😂
It was giving elevated Lifetime movie, but I liked it!
I don't care how terrible and/or stupid them two were, I thoroughly enjoyed the foolery on screen. It was giving 90s semi-erotic thriller. She put on that Steve Jobs turtleneck and I said oh no he got her. When that man got on his knees I lost it. Then Campbell's facial expressions had me rolling. I'm glad she didn't mess up her life by murking 10 o'clock shadow, but I wouldn't have been mad either. I knew you were going to go in and I appreciated every minute 😅
I was so worried that she was going to piss me off and stick with him. Once you crack someone over the head with a bottle in front of your family, there's no coming back from that. 😂
You were correct about the 5:00 shadow. As the movie went on they did make it darker and darker to show how he was becoming unhinged and somewhat deranged.

Imagine if Luke got the promotion instead of Emily and she asked him if he got it by playing with Campbell’s yam. I mean… Luke already got on his knees for him once sooooooo….

The whole first 30 min of the movie I was like can you all have a talk about this issue he’s having? Have an adult conversation on how it affects the relationship!l? There was no communication, just havoc once she got promoted 🤦🏻♀️
They refused to have a normal discussion. 😂
I mean let's be realistic Luke was just going to pretend to be happy for her. She even asked if he was okay and he hugged, kissed and congratulated her. That man wasn't going to outright say he was jealous. His ego was too big for that.
She already knew shit was about to go down that's why she came home upset and miserable when she got promoted. She knew this was the beginning of the end. She knew their relationship wouldn't survive his ego being bruised.
If I had a woman like Emily I would be 10,000 percent on her side. Pick up the pieces in our life she ain't able to. Her making more money or better position in career wouldn't make me any less of a man. Emily really tried her best to make things smooth and better but Luke was just a bitter A-hole.
This is a real man compared to all the other men who defend Luke.
This was a very good movie. It shows you the power dynamics between men and women. This is sometimes how men act when women have more authority/better job than they do. This was a perfect example of my first and second marriage. That is why I always tell women especially black women don't date down. This is a good example of what happens when you date down.
💯 this is why it’s very important for successful women to be even more selective when they choose their partner. the only reason why her success drove him crazy was because he felt that he was loosing his masculinity, if he had been in a higher position this would have not bothered him at all. instead he would have been bragging about it.
This happened in my marriage as well. A huge part of the reason I am no longer married. I'm very excited about that fact.
Women should always date up and be hypergamous. Men are ruled by their egos and are very dangerous if they're with women who are smarter, wealthier, and more successful than they are.

The ending did leave me a bit confused...that loud noise off camera at the end before it went dark...what WAS that? Are we supposed to imagine something fell? Luke? I didn't appreciate that Soprano-ish mystery moment?! Anyone else???

I think it was wrong to market it as an erotica. It's a psychological thriller that shows workplace toxicity and an abusive relationship. It mirrored reality so close that it triggered my PTSD, but I still think that more movies like these should be made and I love how it was able to convey how an actual abusive relationship is. Everything about it hits so close to home.
I’m beyond sorry that 1. You experienced and were negatively affected by someone’s trash ass behavior, and 2. That you were triggged by seeing it on screen. You comment made me realize that I need to do better with adding trigger warnings in my videos. Thanks for sharing, I appreciate it! ❤️

lmao 😂i def knew he was a piece of shit, and i wasn’t surprise that SA her, the reason why is because the moment he started making comments about her getting the job from sleeping to the top implied he no longer saw her as a woman but more as an object.
This movie was def an unexpected surprise! I think deep down, he always saw her as an object of sorts. He probably proposed with the expectation that he would be the breadwinner and she would be at home barefoot and pregnant, and when he saw that unexpressed expectation slipping away it brought his true self to the surface. smh
I actually dealt with a similar situation, but I cut it before it got taken too far. I was talking to this dude for 2 weeks and I wasn’t feeling him because I felt like he was love-bombing, just like Luke was at the beginning. And that didn’t sit right with me so I asked the dude if we could just stay friends and he put up this front, “yeah, I’m cool with being friends, I appreciate your honesty”. Facebook was a whole different story, because he was then posting about how “I’m not replaceable; my toxic trait is I give everyone all of me and they don’t reciprocate; I’m grateful to those who weren’t for me for leaving”. I ask him if he’s ok, if he’s good, and he’s like “yeah, everything’s great!” 😂 absolutely playing in my face, so I’m glad I dodged that! I absolutely felt this movie on a spiritual level.
I’ve dealt with something similar too unfortunately. Why can people just be normal human beings!?

Crazy part is, I bypassed this movie on Netflix cause it looked not too interesting. But after watching your review, I'm gonna watch it in full. At the end of the movie when they were in the apartment, this was a power play. She was trying to make him feel the way that he made her feel. That was her moment to feel superior and Trump all of the BS that he had done to her consistently after this promotion. 48 laws of power. Assert your dominance over the weaker person.
She most def made her position known, because I thought she was gonna send him home to the Lord.

Elle - another fantastic review start to finish. Gotta love a good corporate thriller - I really enjoyed this movie. No surprise that the female and male viewers are reviewing this a but differently. Although Luke was entirely off the rails, Emily was not without her faults, and you can see the other shoe waiting to drop for her future in the firm when they bring in the sexy new female trader poised to be the next in line to threaten Emily’s position. What a cutthroat and ruthless portrayal of the financial industry. I was a little let down by the unbelievability of the final scene - Luke pretty much letting Emily slash away at him?? Supurb acting though! Thanks for another excellent and hilarious review. 💕
But emily is that girl at work. I don't think the new woman threatens her position at all. They are not waiting tables, they are in finance. Emily is a PM. Will the new woman get invited to after dinner drinks? Yes. But she needs superior skills to take emilys place
I keep reading that Emily had her faults too, but I don't know what that means. I didn't see her doing anything that wasn't warranted, or that wasn't strategic. What did she do that was out of pocket? Luke was in the wrong from beginning to end. Can we be upset with Emily for having to respond to his BS?

This movie is a master piece great actors, and great story , I honestly did not see the red flags in the beginning from luke I really thought he was all in once u eat someone period blood I'm like wow he really loves her but I'm glad the truth came to the light luke was a horrible person jealous and envy and it got him no where he really is a loser and Emily even tho she was not innocent u gotta respect her genuine love because if luke got promoted they would have gotten married , but he was a hater , overall great movie

He couldn't handle the fact that she was better at numbers than he was.
@@tessy28I just watched and it wasn't that she was necessarily better at numbers, dude was erratic even at his job. He NEVER did all the necessary research to even see if the numbers made sense! He did half and then wanted to make a move. She constantly begged him to finish the research but he just kept jumping out of planes with no parachute, then acted surprised when his face smashed against the ground. He used insider trading information. Bruh, just never made good decisions. I don't understand how she didn't notice that.

A disgusting and messed up person but Emily was not perfect, getting drunk all the time and coming home late was messy on her part and she was onyl doing it because she felt she had to act like "one of the boys to fit in." Even that weird frat story about the sisterbanger was disturbing. Also she shouldn't have actually told him he was the one that would be receiving the promotion instead. The idea that the job was his became implanted in his head that very moment. Forcing him to be intimate when he told her he wasn't in the mood was not cool either. She definitely had the upper hand in morality though because she did try her best to understand that he was feeling inadequate but some of her actions were questionable too.
Your review was terrible campbell needed Emily to get rid of Luke because campbell did something wrong with the cse when he called her out for ordering a diet coke and then switched to the most expensive whiskey in the bar he knew that he found his girl for the job he could have told her and everyone in the office that Emily was going to be the next pm and not luke or any other man analyst so she was telling Luke a lie when she got home campbell hated him and wanted to fire him but couldn't because a family friend of luke had something on campbell and she was to quick to want to throw rory under the bus the first pm to congratulate her and it took her a day to gaslight Luke iam sure Luke was happy and sad that she got the promotion if you know anything about hedge funds they are for the super rich and rich companies the analyst do all the work and the pm get the big bonus like in a law firm the name partners get the big money and the paralegal do all the work and research they can do anything but argue a case in court on one deal luke and his pm losr 15millon dollars and in one other deal paul and his analyst .lost 30millon dollars and Emily and Luke lost 25millon dollars buyt got 21millon back a d he was at the office at night trying to save her money and job but she was a drunk to me and i hate women who smoke the stock market is noting but a big casino were you win and lose money every day i hated Emily because she knew that campbell hated Luke and wanted to fire him and was never going to promote him campbell thought that Luke was weak because Luke would not kick his ask but on the second day Emily started to gaslight like luke she got a company car or uber and Luke got the subway she could have told Luke to get into this car with me we both work for this firm and you are my analyst and i need to talk to you about how we can be the best analyst and pm in the firm Emily came from the poor part of newyork city and this was the first time she was around so much money she when to the restaurant by herself when luke told her he had to much work to do she could have said yes let go home and finish our work and then we can order Chinese food and talk and make love all night i have some new sex toys and it was her fault she lost the 25millon dollars because campbell told her to go long but luke said they should go short so she put in the order only pm computer 🖥 could put in the order and then she left the office to replace her Steve Jobs black turtle shirt with a new orange silk blouse if she was in the office she could have stopped the trades but she could not and she got bad at luke and she told Luke that he had fuck up and the she let campbell call her a dumb stupid bitch twice and Emily said nothing and my wife said women dress to impress other women so who was Emily try to impress she had no female friends at the office so Luke stayed with her try to find a new firm to short she found one and told campbell to text her and Luke told her not to take the call because if something went wrong she was going to be in more trouble this was the last time that Emily and Luke told each other that they were in love and they didn't sleep in the same bed again so Emily deal work out she gor 21millon dollars back so campbell gave her a 575.000 bonus check and nothing for luke she didn't not have to share her bonus with Luke we do not know if a has a joint account or separate account she made half ass attempt to get Luke to go house with her but it seems to me that she got her check early in the morning she could have told Luke i do not feel well can you take me home because I think it my period this writer is so bad Emily could have told Luke that i got a 575.000 bonus check and I want to buy you a new watch ans shoes and suit and go to a movie or play then we can go to a nice restaurant and day home for a couple of days this job will kill us campbell told her most people quit after two years but she didn't care but she went to the strip club pumps and made a fool of herself again got drunk didn't care about Luke being at home by himself what person bring a 575.000 dollars check to a dark strip bar were anyone could steal it she got home drunk one more time Luke should have left her out side all night but luke still love her but luke didn't not want to hear about her night with the boys she was so drunk she told Luke if he ate her pussy she would help his career but no drunk person could not give contents to have sex and Luke asked her did she feel power ful being with the guys because she looked like the hooker they pay to sit with them he didn't say she was a hooker the next day at work Luke had to listen to the guy talk about Emily and her stupid night the guys said he had pictures of her maybe topless pictures because they were in a topless club he said Emily was a wild and crazy girl throwing 5to to7th dollars for drinks and strippers Emily said money was only good if you could spend it on people you love she spent no money on Luke not luke could see that rory was being fired the golden boy did Emily have any thing to do with this she was always with campbell and paul Luke told Emily it was time for her to pitch him to campbell she told Luke to apologize first but they should had left this office and apologized to each other and made plans to leave this firm Emily said she was not going to pitch Luke to campbell because she lied and said that she try before and campbell told her that first night luke was just a analyst he needed to quit she told Luke this firm does not you and she slammed her hand down on the desk to prove her point she knew that campbell had hired a new mp that made 90mil in one quarter she left Luke made a fool of
