In all of the AW plays there is a character that is usually considered slow or impaired. Lymon is that in this play just as Troy’s brother is in Fences.

ElleBee, I had those same reservations about Lymon. I told my husband he had the "slow motion/cant get right mannerisms". 😂 I'm happy to be wrong though. I really enjoyed the show. Thank you for the review Elle! My notes: I didn't know what to expect from the movie at all and I was not expecting the supernatural aspect of it. At all. Danielle and Samuel L were amazing. 10/10 no notes. I was verrrryy suspicious of Lymon. I definitely believed that he was autistic but I'd hate to think that's why he seemed so suspect. The way he was written was...a choice. John David (deep sigh). I'm convinced that he just plays himself all the time. Baby he was looouuudd and long winded. He just cannot disappear into a role for me. He is John David no matter what. I felt like I was watching Malcolm and Marie again. Maybe it's the play framework but he be on 15 saying all 400 pages of his dialogue. Good lord. Shout out to Malcolm Washington for his directorial debut. So many good shots on the movie. The scene where the racist mob was coming up the hill, amazing

Thank you for this insightful and hilarious review. Denzel really made a boss move inking a deal with Netflix to produce movies of all of August Wilson's plays. I agree, his sons did a phenominal job. This is an instant ADOS classic.
