The Nearly Impossible Mission Challenge in Gran Turismo 7

- The awkward moment when an update accidentally makes a Mission Challenge nearly impossible to complete.
Gran Turismo 7's version 1.20 update (August 2022) raised tire wear rates across the board and adjusted how tires perform when worn out. This ended up making Mission Challenge's "The Sun Also Rises - Bathurst Gr. 3 Battle" extremely difficult to complete.

Wheel base is Fanatec CSL Elite+, pedals are CSL Elite w/ load cell brake pedal, wheel is Clubsport F1 (the one that comes with the DD1).
Fanatec CSL Elite settings (w/ load cell brakes):
SEN - Auto
FF - 95
DRI - -05
FEI - 50
FOR - 90
SPR - 70
DPR - 80
BLI - OFF
SHO - 70
BRF - 50 (If you have the Load Cell Brake pedals)
In-game settings:
Controller: 10
FFB Max Torque: 5
FFB Sensitivity: 10

Uninteresting fact: I was originally going to make this video in 2023, but kept procrastinating on it.
I just tested it with current version. Tyres hardly wear and is quite easy to win.

If you are finding it challenging than imagine what it must be for us mere mortals. There's 1 solution but it is like cheating. As there are no pen, you can just take shortcut on the downhill section, saves more than a sec and very less stress on the tires. 😁

PD had a page on their site where they noted this mission as one of the issues they knew about at the time.
I can imagine people quitting the game for a while if they came across this mission at the time 💀

I'd love for you to show me how to do the Tokyo Central Counterclockwise Circuit Experience full lap gold in the Gr.3 WRX. I'm gold everywhere else, except for that one. For me, it seems "impossible". 😞
Nah go to the race at tscuba in the Mazda road car. You have to switch it to easy in the settings. It’s in the comedy mission. I don’t know if this was a on purpose joke “comedy” or it was pure accident. The AI Is amazingly faster on easy mode than hard mode. They are around 3’s faster per lap! They run 58-56’s laps. For a hour! They run around 1:00-1:01 on hard mode.
Gonna have to try that this weekend.
So basically they made this challenge even easier because you just go really slowly and all the ai will just die 😂
Some AI were able to hold on! Others... not so much haha.
Yeah this challenge is embarrassingly easy. I only did it because I thought it was going to be hard. Imagine my disappointment. Gold with less than 25% tire damage.
Yeah dude something is definitely wrong with your driving, because I just did this same challenge after I discovered it here, I won gold and didn't even break 25% damage on the tires. I can only assume you're too aggressive on the throttle. And I did this with a controller. I bet I'd barely break 10% tire damage with a wheel.
This was recorded in August and September 2022. At that time, GT7 version 1.20 (which changed the tire wear model) introduced a "bug" where the tire wear rate was too harsh for this challenge. As a result, it was difficult to beat this challenge. It was fixed one week later in September 2022 (most likely by lowering tire wear rates in that event).
This event is meant to be a sprint, as tire wear was never an issue before and after v1.20.
Some time later (not sure when), there was another update to the tire wear model, one of them being where the "flat tire" effect at 90-95% wear was no longer a thing, and tire wear is not as harsh.
That will likely change again in the upcoming July 2024 update, where people who went to the recent Montreal GT World Series event reported that the tire wear and temperature model changed.

I was at -4. Didn't make much of a difference when the tire wear bug was there.

I forgot when did I pass this with gold, but I certainly had a harder time in the drift mission than this.
Yeah, the drift missions are weird. The one with the Drift BRZ is a pain in the butt
@@MistahMCA that one is certainly painful but not as worse as the one at the in field of the oval track. For i think over a year, i passed every other missions of the final set at gold except for the BRZ drift, having at least 250 attempts. And then after going through the snow track TT, i came back and got gold on second attempt (without being able to repeat it). It turns out that if i accidentally did the first bit and the entrance to the second right, i subconsciously learned to drift out of the rest by then.
