There's an irony that such socialist songs like this are seen as "folksy" and even "conservative" today. 🤧 Although I guess outside of a Western context, liberal and leftist aren't the same thing at all.
In Germany liberal and left are allmost the opposite acctually. We have some left parties and a liberal party and they are not really friendly towards each other. I really can only encourage you (as an American) to look into other countries political systems. It is not a difficult task. You can just go to wikipedia and read the small overview there. It tells you a lot. You will learn how far capitalistic your political spectrum is in comparision to all other nations. Take Portugal as (extreme) example: In Portugal the four biggest parties are socialists or communists. The only party which would not be regarded as the political left in America hold only one seat in parlament (Chega!). Additionally there is one party that has also one seat, which is liberal and the CDS-PP is a conservative party with five seats, but she probally would be seen as extreme left in the US because she had "Social" in their name :D - You see the entirety of the American mainstream political spectrum holds 7 seats in the Portuguese parlament and everything left of Bernie Sanders holds the other 223 seats (97%). (With left I mean social is now. It is a imprecise term.) This should give us all some perspective :D. In Germany it is like 40.6% of seats for the left of Sanders spectrum, 11.3% for the liberals, 34.7% for the CDU (Merkel's party) - comparable to democrats without progressives plus the most centrist republicans ,and 12.6% for the AfD - pretty much the same as the rest of the republican party and often called "Nazis" by there opponents. You also will see how supressive and anti-democratic the US-elctoral system is. My US-American girlfriend told me, she just would not have realized how undemocratic, unfair, and unequal it is, if political candidates have to pay for their campaigns by their own and It favors corruption and .Because of the bad political system, your country is so disfunctional right now. It is a good thing to do regardless where you come from, but as an US-American it is even more important, because you have a very bad system and the majority of US-Americans have a very bad general knowladge in relation to the world outside of the US.
@@joze838 Sure there are countries that are more left wing than America. But there are countries which are more right wing than America as well. Like in Russia, the biggest party in Russia United Russia would be considered hard right even by Republican Standard, then you have LDPR as the second biggest which is basically a Fascist party and that party is well established and have significant amount of seats in Parliament, and only the third party is left with the Communist Party but I doubt they really care about being socially progressive and only boomers vote for them. Don't forget Hungary as well, where a hard right political party have the absolute majority in Parliament. It is not fair to call America to be a far right country by comparing it with left wing countries.
@@NovajaPravda Fair enough. You are right, there are other countries with right or right-leaning populations - but hardly as much as the US. Please take your time and let me explain. I didn't want to simply show how far "right" the US stands. I wanted to show, that a more "left" or just in general different political landscape is not unthinkable and that calling someone on the left part of this narrow spectrum "leftist" or "extremist" is absolutly redicoules. The US is definatly very much on the "right" and libertarian side of the spectrum and there are very few countries which are as far right and those countries just like those you mentioned are regarded as trubblemakers and their position on the "right" spectrum is not questioned. But if it comes to the US, the self view is far apart from the actual situation. They believe they are a first world country and compare themselfs with France, GB, Germany, Spain, Benelux or Skandinavia - even if their actual peers would be Russia or Poland. And in some parts even this is questionable. Overall the US is more right than all of them. Look at social support in Russia, Poland, or Hungary. All of them have messures in place that are seen as "far left" by allmost half of all Americans. In all three of them you have pregnancy leave for at least 20 weeks (in the US there is non), all of those countries have union rights, which are controversial in the US, all of this countries do not use the death penalty (even if it is not against the law in Russia), all of those countries have some kind of universial healthcare system and all of those countries have at least 22 days of (obligatory) - 0 in the US and this will not change soon. Now I would like to ask you: Are those messures even controversial in Russia? Messures like public healthcare are also nothing new, medival empires like the HRE and the Ottomans allready had them - both not really known for progressive policies. In this metter: No, Russia and Hungary are not more right than the US, not even close as right. BUT that is not what you understood under "right", I assume. You mean nationalism(?). But also there I do not agree: They are probaly similar but not as far right - the Hungarians do not celebrate themselfs as above all other nations, neither do the Russians, as far as I know (maybe that what you mean with fascists, but in the US this are the majority of both big parties! - which make 99%!). I never been to Russia but do you have a thousand flags hanging arround at every single street?! I never seen this in a Russian video at least. Being in the US feld like the Third Reich to me (am totally honest). It isn't easy to compare offcause because other than the right-left-view displays, the overall political spectrum is not two-dimensional. On other behalves you are totally right, if you are talking about women rights, LGBTQ-rights or so on, the US is surely not the most "right" country. But in the end, do you really want to compare your country with countries like Saudi-Arabia or Brunei? I guess, you are Russian so you probaly have by default a different perspective about the spectrum as a whole and we definatly both have some sort of a bias.
@@NovajaPravda As a conclusion, even when I compare the US to right-wing countries the US is still very far right in most behalfs with exception of LGBTQ-rights. That is an exception not the norm. Also is Germany is not a left wing country. left leaning at its best. But that's maybe my bias so, we can handle it as one, if you want.
