This song is always so intriguing, it's quite minimalistic in nature (compared to many other Sabaton songs) and all the ship names are integrated to the lyrics in a really cool way!
I like it too because it brings an otherwise obscure, not well-known event to life. Being on those ships must have been more terrifying than most of us will ever be.
@@nekad2000 I wouldn't exactly call U-Boat warfare obscure, I feel that it's one of the more well-known parts of the war, but cool song nonetheless. It must have been horrifying, I hate to think about what it was like.

U-124 was launched on 9 March 1940 conducted eleven war patrols, sinking 46 ships. She was a member of two wolfpacks The Süd (22 July - 5 August 1941) and the Hecht (8 May - 18 June 1942). She was attacked and sunk by two British warships, the Flower-class corvette HMS Stonecrop and Black Swan-class sloop HMS Black Swan west of Oporto in Portugal 2 April 1943. She was sunk with all 53 crew members.

@@AverageMann check out uboat dot net, data about basically all german uboats 406 had 11 wolfpacks, 8 patrols and was Sunk on 18 February 1944 in the North Atlantic south-west of Ireland, in position 48.32N, 23.36W, by depth charges from the British frigate HMS Spey. 12 dead and 45 survivors.

Granted I think what you said is the scariest part. One can survive on land if we survive the initial barrage. If you survive the u boat attack, and your boat sinks, the ocean will slowly claim your soul. Never to be seen again.

Both of my uncles fought in the war. One was more of a test pilot who died serving. I suspect fowl play of some kind. The other actually fought the Japanese. Lord knows what horrors he witnessed.

This is my favorite song from Sabaton ! Obsessed with it since 2019, still in love with it after years, and the way it sounds. I've always considered it's criminally underrated, and I'm so happy to see my favorite songs getting lyric and music videos. They really deserve more because jesus, this is one of the coolest things this band has given to us. To me it's a masterpiece, and I love the clever way used to incorporate 569, 94, 124 and 406 into the lyrics. This song is the reason why I basically know everything about wolfpacks... Song is amazing, but am I the only one who notices that the submarines look a bit more modern, also the fact they used an Admiral Hipper class Cruiser, at first I thought it was a British battleship, but then I noticed the funnel and the turrets.
You're the first comment I've seen saying anything. Those are Type 209 subs. They are of German design, but yeah, wrong era completely. Lol. Also, the planes in the background are F4U Corsairz.
Can we appreciate how good sabaton is at painting a realistic atmosphere in each song. Like you can just feel the terror of being surrounded akin to sharks in the ocean

This song is friggin' awesome! I remember listening to it once before a while ago, but since it didn't have the lyrics on screen, I didn't enjoy it as much because I like singing along in my head. I just kinda forgot about it until now, and now that I have listened to it again, I can confidently say that Sabaton NEVER misses the mark with their awesome Navy songs.
#1 With 226 destroyed ships U-35 (1914 - 1918) is till today the most succesfully submarine/ship.
#2 With 52 destroyed ships (307.935 BRT) U-48 was the most succesfull ship of WW2.

German Navy had 1000+ submarines in WW2...today, they have a grand total of...6 submarines.
You have to consider the fact that submarines have become more complex and stronger, unlike in the World War, where it was relatively the cheesiest option for most navies.
Or official there is 6… because no one know of the wolf pack too.

So good! A song about the other submarine forces during the war would be awesome! Especially the Pacific US submarine force. There's just constant incredible stories about what those guys got up to. Hell USS Barb even launched a raid on Japan and blew up a train on the Japanese homeland.

A wolfpack of what appear to be Type 209 subs (with the iconic post-war German arrangement of 8 bow torpedo tubes) against WW2 battleships and airplanes ... an interesting match-up, to be sure, albeit probably a bit one-sided :-) (Well, the jumping wire at 4:51 does look like from WW2.) Love the song!

I just wish to point out all those giggiling at U-406, she actually got to try an attack five others didn't, including U-569 and of the four mentioned she lasted the longest making it to 1944, U-94 sank in 1942 not too long after this attack actually, U-124 and U-569 made it to 1943.
Also U-406 had faulty torpedoes and a experimental engine
Anybody who can remember the 569 U-94 part is a true Sabaton fan
