The line "Die Sturmbewährt sich nimmer, vor einem Feind geneigt" actually means: "The battle-scarred flag has never bowed to an enemy". We corrected that in the new version!
The song is from the poem "die Baltenfahne" from Karl Freiherr Manteuffel-Katzdangen. He was related to Hans von Manteuffel who fell 1919 at Riga and should tell the story of him and the Baltikumer, German soldiers fighting shortly after ww1 in the Baltic states.. The poem was created in 1920, just one year after Hans has fallen, but published the first time in the 30s without a melody.
The singer is Jürgen V.
I used a teutonic knight as title picture, because they are the origin and ancestors of those people who fought there after WW1.

So in 1920 these soldiers had to leave the baltic region, because of no support from the German government.
In the song they are desperrate, many had fallen. They return to their fatherland and bring home their flag as their last duty. But it will be the duty of their children to bring the flag back to eastern land (Ostland).

My grandfather was born in Riga as a Baltic German, but had to leave Latvia during the second world war, because of the Hitler-Stalin-Pact. My family arrived in Latvia in the 15th century (My first ancestor there was Johann von Mengden, who was the first "Landmeister" of Teutonic order, my great grandmother was born a "von Mengden"). This song reminds me of all my ancestors who lived for almost 500 years in Livonia, Estonia and Courland. This song was actually written by another Baltic German. I think with "We became strangers" he means the long time the Baltic German were separated from the other Germans in the "Reich".
What a fantastic and proud story! All of those eastern Germans scattered in language islands were extremely faithful to their Germaness and were often more serious about defending their identity than the Germans in the Reich.

Although in 1919 there was another reason why the Germans in the Reich might have regarded the Baltic Germans as "strangers"; many of them had fought for the Russian Empire against Germany, and one of the Russian armies that invaded East Prussia in 1914 was led by a Baltic German General named von Rennenkampf.
My grandfather has a similar story. He was born in Memel, todays Klaipėda, in a rich and even noble family with lots of land, but when the Russians were coming he and his parents fled to Schleswig-Holstein. Now nothing is left because the Commies probably grabbed all of it, and due to the reason they fled and left ‘out of free will’ my family has no right to ‘claim back the land’. Bit sad but from how it now looks there I do not feel the urge to do anything about it.😂

Mein Uropa geboren in Riga war im Stoßtrupp der Baltischen Landeswehr. Er wurde ausgezeichnet mit dem Orden der Baltischen Landeswehr. Mein Vater gab mir diesen und auch Fotos von ihm in der Militär Zeit.
Darauf kannst du wirklich stolz sein, sie kämpften weiter als es im Westen schon vorbei war!

The beauty of the German martial spirit is really unparalleled. I think it reaches every man’s heart especially. I always gravitated toward warhammer 40k and space marines, and when I read books about the Teutonic Knights I realized that was the source of the archetype in space marines. I’m American and almost entirely English, but we’re a Germanic people and I do think this spirit exists in our blood memory.

I taught German language and US history in the States and always wished I could have moved to the German belt or the gorgeous, happy German hill country in my favourite state of Texas. Did you know that in our Bavarian dialect we have a plethora of French words that came from our (infamous) alliance with Napoleon. Of course, these words were Bavarianized like "botschampal" = pot de chambre, or baraplui = paraplui - umbrella, etc.Therse words are separate from the French words that entered the German language. Now we are doing the same with American English . Ade (from Adieu) which they say in Upper Franconia in Northern Bavaria. In Oberbayern we use "Servus" going back to the Romans who were once the master's there.
