I’m from Ontario Canada. My ex dragged our ordeal out for almost 8 years. To be clear, we settled and I made the mistake of commuting to be done with her. She blew through the money and because young kids were involved, claimed hardship to get a new deal. Courts are sympathetic to mothers and reopened twice!
Be careful bragging to a woman. You could be giving away intel to the enemy and everything can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have to be careful of everything these days.
I do not think the judge had anything to do with the length of the divorce. Judges actually love when the parties settle their differences quickly. Most judges are very busy. They LOVE when cases move quickly and reach a settlement.
@@ricardok5593 under the rules of evidence, what he told her can come in as a hearsay exception. If I were his lawyer, I likely would have filed a “motion in limine” to keep her off the witness stand.
There are not very many reasons that I like being 81, but there are a couple. The first is if I should come down with a terminal illness, it is better to come down with it at 81 than at 31. The second reason is that pu$$y no longer controls me, actually, it hasn't controlled me for many years.
I'm thinking there has to be some hidden reason for this to drag on so long. Apart from that, sadly, I have seen instances in some jurisdictions where attorneys will collude and "churn" a case to keep it going and rack up the fees. In that situation, the only remedy is for the client to fire the attorney. This, of course, then presents the client with the problem of finding another attorney willing to take the case and another round of expenses. Churning is the dirty little secret in many jurisdictions where oversight is lax. If you suspect your attorney is too chummy or collegial with opposing counsel, and does not advocate aggressively on your behalf, that should be a warning signal. If you and your attorney have what you think is a privileged discussion and then your former spouse knows all about it in 24 hours, that is another flashing red light, and it's time to pull the plug.
How often do you see 70% of the estate going to one side? Indefinite alimony? Have you ever heard of a ruling tied to a portion of an estate at death? If this guy died tomorrow, her “indefinite” would end immediately. Can these rulings be challenged to make them more “fair”?
Hi Jonathan, I have a question for you. If you marry a foreigner and sponsor their visa and you get a divorce, what obligations do you have post-divorce? What can a prenuptial agreement do to protect you in this scenario? What can't it do?
This is a terrific question that requires a complex answer. Your question also creates additional questions about the skill sets of the foreigner and their earning capacity. If you want to book a paid consultation, we can do a deep dive on the topic and discuss your specific situation. My email address for consults is in the show notes. Again, great question!

9 years of hell just for saying "i do". The modern version of slavery and servitude. These judges are starting to be taken out.

@@jcnlawThey are literally starting to be deleted Jonathan. Right and wrong won't have anything to do with it.
@@jcnlaw did the judge really took the girlfriend's word for income? why didn't the husband's attorney did not object it?

This is why I am such a strong advocate of doing stealth wealth.
Lay low and don’t call too much attention, financially speaking.

Glad I'm out of the battle. Someone who is "smarter" can fight instead.
