Hi Dean, great job on the VFD, a very elegant solution! In terms of the facemill, it looks very similar to the pile of junk I got with my Cormak, there are no markings on mine (or the inserts) unfortunately. The inserts in mine I am pretty sure are made out of compressed stale cheese, and the mill body has more wobble than a 1970's jelly!! Don't hold your breath, I would get your drawbar sorted and run some checks before you go mad looking for inserts. Cheers, Jon
Hey Jon, thanks for the feedback, I like the way the job turned out and I think it just about incorporates the good advice I received. I'll definitely clock the facemill up now that you have said that, thanks for the heads up. Best wishes, Dean.
Very nice job with the VFD. Next I assume will be a DRO? I really enjoyed the section on the books. Was the copy of The BSA Bantam Book Grandad's? You can get pretty decent R8 er32 chucks from Bang Good. Cheap and cheery. Like.
Nice one Dean. I've not got a VFD yet for mine yet as I don't have the cash 🙄 Still thinking about going single belt though (motor direct to spindle) but need to see what speeds can be achieved Cheers Neil
I think that would be a good conversion Neil, the two belt set up is a bit of a lash up. I'm looking at a better belt tensioner system too, the spring pot affair is a proper Heath Robinson job. Perhaps a turnbuckle would be a better bet. Best wishes, Dean.
This might interest you. I fitted a vfd to my Harrison M250 lathe a few years ago. I wrote it up in posts on the Mig Welding Forum, under the title "A VFD for my Lathe". I also had a VFD on my Rong Fu clone Chester Mill. When it came to the belts, I just set them in the mid position providing a near enough straight through drive. It worked well and saved having to modify anything.
@@carlwilson1772 I'll look that up Carl. I like what Dean also said about the tensioner. But maybe with an over centre cam and lever. Changing belt positions on this mill is a mare and simplifying the system will be a massive benefit.
@@NellsMechanicalManCave I hope you find something useful in what I wrote. I am going to do a video on my channel in the future about the vfd set up and programming that I did on my lathe. It will be a precis of my write up.

Nice bit of kit foe the workshop 👌
🇮🇪 very good sharing
Thanks very much.
Some cool books. I don’t have or ever seen a BSA but I will look them up. Thanks for sharing brother.
Congrats brother beautiful would love to have one.

Best wishes, Dean.

Nice machine!
TPM inserts I think , what is the length of 1 side of the triangle?

That's where much of my tooling has come from. Nuthin much the marra with it.
The book wasn't Grandad's. That one didn't survive the tumultuous years of our childhood in the hands of 'him'!
@@retromechanicalengineer Never mind. I knew Grandad had one. I have also seen the same but with a blue cover.

hi Dean, i wonder where can i get the black metal wiper like what you hve on your mill. please .
Hi John, do you mean the metal black cover on the Y axis or the rubber mat behind the table?
Cheers, Dean.

Of course. I have at least one viewer out there.
I want one of the shirts in large that you are wearing. Let me know what it would cost to send me one.
This one was a gift, but I think Amazon is your friend. Certainly the UK based site sells them.
@@retromechanicalengineer thanks brother
@@retromechanicalengineer well I can’t find on Amazon. But EBay has them. Going to get Dale one to
First...
Dale, this comment makes me feel that I have 'arrived' as a TH-cam channel!
Thanks very much,
Dean.
