Collecting old wood is a great way to reduce fire hazards. We must have burnt 200,000 acres in Aridzona so far this year. You can not have open fires most of the time here. I cut collect five cords per year. I give or trade it away. I own 55 acres with over 1,000 mesquite trees on it, and yest they can have 3 1/2 " thorns on them, They look exactly like tooth picks. For me it's easier to take the 3" wood and break it up. If your using it for heating a home looks are not important. I use a dump trailer.

I'm almost to the point of saying F it, ban camping in the summer months because people are too freaking negligent. Fall and Winter are the best by far. Screw the dry months.
