This week we're traveling to Taipei, Taiwan.
We wanted to leave Japan for Golden Week so we originally decided on a trip to Taipei. It's only a short 3 hour plane ride from Tokyo so we booked the tickets at the start of the year.
On our first day we arrived at Taoyuan International Airport at 8-9am and swiftly made our way to Taipei using the express link airport train. It's been a while since I've gone so I was excited to hit the ground running. Shogo's never been to Taiwan so I wanted to make it a trip to remember. We left our bags at We Come Hostel which was just a few minutes from Taipei Main Station and were off to Ding Yuan Soy Milk. When in Taiwan it is an ABSOLUTE MUST to try Taiwanese breakast. It's got the perfect blend of sweet and savory food and is just so comforting. Prepare to wait in line for popular spots but know that it's all worth it. We then headed to Jin Feng Braised Pork Rice nearby to try braised pork rice and it didn't disappoint. Having had our fill of breakfast/lunch we walked over to Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall then to Rongjin Gorgeous Time and spent the rest of the early afternoon around Ximending/Ximenting. Highlights included the Red House, a visit to Pazzo (a women's clothing brand) and Ice Una for mango shaved ice. Since it was almost time to check in, we headed back to the hostel which was walkable from where we were, spent a few hours recharging and we were off to Ningxia Night Market! We ended our first night with dinner with a friend of mine. :)
For our second day, we woke up to some rain. We started our day with breakast at Comida Toast and Fuhong Beef Noodles - both delicious and incredibly good value for money! Since it started raining harder, we took cover at Sidoli Radio - one of the nicest cafes I've been to in a while. It reminded me of classic kissaten style cafes in Japan. From there we walked to Dihwa Old Street which was nearby, then we explored one of the mnh creative parks in the city called Songshan Culture and Creative Park. From there it was a quick bus ride to Elephant Mountain where we were treated to sprawling views of Taipei 101 and the city below. For dinner we took another bus to Raohe Night Market and called it a day.
Our last and final day in Taipei was spent walking around the Zongshan district. We had breakfast at another popular Taiwanese breakfast soot called Sihai Soy Milk then grabbed some coffee at a cafe nearby called Instil. Since the Taipei Museum of Modern Art was closed (it was a Monday) we decided to check out a Taiwanese movie theater and watched The Fall Guy with Ryan Gosling. From there we explored the different shops alo ng Chifeng Street and had the best Taiwanese shaved ice at Bingzan (the line alone is enough proof). At night our final meal in Taipei was hotpot (as it should be). I hope this video fave you itinerary ideas on what to see and do.

I think Taiwan is so underrated. There's so many things to do, eat and see. I really want to go back and explore the other regions! 😋💖

Taiwan looks interesting! Many say it’s like Hong Kong. That’s very creative to put a menu in a cassette tape… so nostalgic. Do the locals speak English? How nice you and Shogo are so chill. You take care😊

It is! And its visa free for Filipinos until June or July I think. Personally I like it better than Hong Kong since it's less expensive.
The locals don't speak much English, they speak a bit of Japanese though because there are so many Japanese tourists. 👀 Thank you!!! You too
