I am not kidding, as soon as you cut the holes in it, I thought "What if you got a snare that was just enough to keep the heads on?" Kinda reminds me of that one Eric Andre show clip where Hannibal Burress says 'you did it! You broke comedy down to its bare essentials!"

I would like to see a thin to medium wrap around the shell to possibly hear a nice tone. Using the wrap to plug the holes without completely filling them in (theoretically) might give the snare a solid tone. I'm probably wrong, but would like to see it!

Great video, David. 2 questions, though:
    1) What crash were you using when you tested out the ‘skeleton’ snare? It was really trashy and dark, with a super short decay.
    2) Do you have any albums out of your music, or just the sound cloud stuff? I’d love to promote it to my sphere of folks.
    Thanks and blessings,
    Aaron

i love your editing and how its in time with the music, you should make a song using different sounds from around your workshop!

I think the holes would be a good idea next the the bottom head or as slits right above where the area where the snares sit or just all around the bottom path of the drum. Do you think using a metal snare would project even more?

The Swiss cheese drum has a great pingy resonance with the hard hits that makes it sound perfect for drum and bass beats imho

Hey - so this is going to be a totally random question, but maybe you or others can fill me in:
How do you set levels accurately on your audio interface when you’re recording drums by yourself?
When I’m playing other instruments, it’s pretty easy - but when I’m having to walk across the room from the drums to the interface to make adjustments, I get less than desirable results.
Apologies if you’ve covered this in another video or if the answer is super obvious.

So I've never recorded drums before so take this with a grain of salt.
As far as I see it you have two options.
      1. Get a friend to bang on'em while your setting the levels (probably the best plan).
      2. Bring them over one at a time to you, bang it as hard as your gonna bang it, make sure that's in the green.
Honestly as long as you've got a strong enough signal that's not clipping (or bleeding into the other mics so much it's useless) you should be setting the vast majority of levels in your daw.
