Alaska by a FREAKING LANDSLIDE! Let’s go. I’ve always thought Alaska was secretly always the best airline. When people think of North American Airlines, they think of Delta, United, and American. Alaska should be apart of that

I had a feeling it was Alaska, I have an obvious bias with it being my favorite airline and my dad being a pilot for them, but I'm glad they've taken this challenging time head on and done their best.

Aloha Jeb! At Hawaiian we still serve meals in main cabin with water bottles and limited soft drinks. As far as first class goes we still serve a full hot meal with appetizer, main, and dessert with coffee, tea, and alcoholic beverages. I feel like we’re doing a lot more than the other major carriers.

Completely agree!!! I have been flying with Alaska for about 30 years and it's just unbeatable for your short to medium long flights. The attendants are wonderful, although some can be mask crazy. I am a loyal Alaska Airlines flyer. Their mileage plan awards program is unmatched, leg space is good (limited if you get the 280 pounder next to you), and the food is good!!!

As an Alaska 75k, I can't agree more! Jeb, try this again when COVID is over and I bet you don't change your mind. The Alaska Lounge has almost all of its drinks on the "comp" list for no charge, the catering on board is amazing with a multi course meal, and the staff are second to none. I am lucky to live in an Alaska focus city and can fly almost exclusively with them. Plus, now that they are joining OneWorld it will mean I can still earn miles and enjoy some FF perks while on American in some places Alaska doesn't fly.

Really enjoyed this Jeb. I’ve only flown a handful of times domestically within America. Last year I had 3 x AA Domestic 1st flights, and was thoroughly impressed. I’ve heard mixed reviews about them, but I have to take my hat off to them. Everything was as good as can be. And the flights were 3-4 hours, so a flat bed wasn’t missed (daytime flight too).
    Things I enjoyed:

But recently I had a chance to fly on Alaska PDX-SEA-PDX for training as as Ground Service Agent for Horizon Air at PDX. I just wish they were more consistent. Recently we flew to Vegas from DFW - was offered drink service and snacks by a friendly flight crew on the way there. On the return flight it's almost like the flight crew was trying to hide from the First Class customers. Only when someone started dinging the service button they offered drink service to first class but acted like they were being put out.

First, thanks for your videos; I really enjoy them. I was (am) a business traveler until the pandemic. I live in DC so American is the hub here. I wish it was Delta. I love having the IFE systems included and we now see fewer and fewer in the American domestic flights. In addition, prior to the pandemic, some of their planes were so old and uncomfortable it would really anger me. It was almost like they were saying, we're the biggest and we are here; deal with it. At least Delta takes care of their planes and it feels like they care more about the customer experience. Just my observation. Again, love your videos.

Delta has the oldest fleet and American has the youngest fleet. Not saying anything about service or offerings, but when it comes to metal, AA is debt because they bought so many new planes. Delta is finally getting rid of some old MD aircraft and ancient boeing planes, they have needed an overhaul for many years.

Blocked seats have already somewhat gone away even on Delta.. i saw it happen today... yes Delta is blocking all MIDDLE seats. But to have a middle seat you need a 3 seat row. On planes (like the 717) which are arranged in a 2-3 configuration you COULD have a seatmate on the 2 side. This is true in Main Cabin or Comfort+.

It should be noted that the IFE in that 737 of American you flew will be gone soon as they finish up their "Oasis" project. I few Amerian in October and November with on flight being on their Envoy Air subsidiary and was good. Guess it’s time to downgrade the card because I’m certainly wasting money on it this year. All my trade shows cancelled. They were really cool to just hold the credits on my Skymiles Acct though. 3 years down the road and it seems little has changed, except the flights we’ve been on have been mostly full and IT issues have caused major disruptions.
I’ve noticed American now lists most of the domestic routes we fly as business class, nit first class. We fly from a midwestern regional airport and connect through the airlines hubs, so the majority of our flights are under3 hours. When all legs are closer to 2 hours, we’ll fly economy, otherwise I’m looking at the first-business class seats. When flying economy I’ll typically look to SWA’s, mainly for their boarding process and the ability to purchase my way to an A1-15 position. This nearly always ensures I can select seats within the first 10 rows, which is important to my slightly claustrophobic wife and makes it easier to make a tight connection.
Modern “first” class reminds me more of what flying economy used to be back in the late ‘60’s or ‘70’s. Maybe it’s just fond memories from my childhood, but there always seems to be more room and more attention to service, even in the cheap seats.
Meals have made their return on the longer flights, although I can’t say I’m overly impressed. We don’t book the seats for the meals. In our case, we book them for the extra room, not having to deal with a rube who doesn’t know the meaning of personal space and not having to deal with the gate lice, which li e up and crowd the boarding area three boarding groups ahead of their own.
In the old days, it occurs to me there were three classes of domestic service, first, business and economy. Business class was eliminated on domestic routes long ago and was reinvented as economy plus several years later. As things have evolved, it’s now first class that’s been eliminated with business class evolving to take its place. I suspect this is partially due to the aging demographics of our population. We are now in our 60’s with more disposable income and we’re more likely to pay for those larger seats and better service, including priority lines at the counter, true priority boarding, in some cases priority TSA lines and priority checked bags which come off the carousel first.
First class offers a level of service we’re not typically willing to pay for a shorter three or four hour flight. Business class however offers a better flying experience at an affordable price. That will fill those seats with paying passengers rather than upgraded passengers so the airline can sell a few more economy seats.

The only real difference in cabin cleaning that I've noticed is that now what used to just occur during the overnight shifts (deep cleaning with full vacuum, spray and wipe down all surfaces, etc) is now also happening between all, if not most, flights during the daytime... albeit a more expedited process with electrostatic sprayers to keep turnaround times and delays at a minimum... and at most line stations (smaller airports) the cleaning during a turnaround is usually taken by a lone ramp agent or in some cases, the gate agent working the flight... not a whole team of cleaners as is often portrayed in clips seen lately... regional jets especially, as there isn't a whole lot of room to have a team of 4 or 5 cleaning without everyone bumping into one another... narrowbodies can be knocked out with a team of 2 or 3, but again, at smaller outlying stations it's a one man/woman operation when it comes to cleaning...

I think Alaska is the best of the economy type airlines. I like the way they fit out their cabins. Both their 737 NG and A321’s are clean and reasonably roomy
    Cheers

Love your videos Jeb! We in Australia domestic business class (your first class) is FAR more expensive; it’s actually ridiculous.... we have little competition... thus the price wars are now starting; with added new Virgin Australia owner and Rex local airline.
Thus in USA you get better prices; for domestic business class “first class” than we do eg: 60min flight here or 90min Qantas is $1200-$1800 one way! AUD
As you mentioned in other videos USA our Australian domestic “business/first” is much better than Europe domestic eek....! Those are shocking!
Lounges access as you point out; we get that on all domestic business class no matter ticket (all business domestic business class) get access OR if you buy membership lounge / or are a loyal platinum/ gold memberships with airlines - hence Qantas is preferred (based on membership numbers) as they have more partners as One World Members,
I love this and has helped a lot! Thanks mate keep flying safe - cheers

Delta, hands down. Big IFE screen, excellent food, excellent legroom, A220, things that the competitors don't have.

First class today feels like what coach was in the 90s and early 2000. It sucks with American pulling out IFE seat back monitors but they were usually very large and you lost about 25% of your foot space because of the computer. With many business travelers having their laptop and iPad with them I feel like it's not a huge stretch to be working while your movie plays on the other appliance. Meal service was also pretty much dwindling even before the pandemic. I would usually fill up in the Admirals Club and sneak a snack on because I anticipated it being a little more than a snack.

The IFE system on the American 737 you flew are fantastic. They are only on select 737’s (the newer deliveries they received in 2017). Unfortunately American is in the process of eliminating those screens and interiors in favor of their interior configuration which I find awful.

One person said; there is no small talk. I do not think or hope that the airlines will lose that much ground to the web. Stay safe and be safe!

My dads Fly delta because they have good international benefits. I fly Alaska because they have better domestic service and customer service. This year my Mom and Dad and I where going to go to DC in October. Bought my first class ticket in march on an Alaska flight with similar departure and Arrival times as theirs. Covid happened and in september we decided to cancle the trip. As luck would have it for me, alaska had also cancled the flight and changed me to one that was almost 2 hours later than the original (though still a direct flight. My dads delta flight became one with a 35 min connection in detroit). Under Alaskas policies I was able to get a full refund even though Id used miles to buy part of the Ticket. It was also amazing (and some what scary) That they had my phone number linked so they knew exactly who I was and what Flight I was calling about when I called them.

On way up from Anchorage to Fairbanks on E175 premium seat i was next to an off duty state trooper on a FULL aircraft no spaced seating.

In 2023, I think domestic first class on Delta 321/neo or not, is really good, I’d never pay for it again but I did it from BOS to MSP at 5:50 am in early January and I did like it a lot, but Delta One is worth it even though it is a steep price

  • @LeviRamsey
    @LeviRamsey 4 ปีที่แล้ว

It's also worth noting when disambiguating domestic first vs. international first, that for the EU carriers, short-haul business class is economy (sometimes extra legroom, sometimes not) with a blocked middle seat (and in an RJ, generally not even a blocked seat), or in other words, if you're flying Delta in these times, "main cabin or maybe even comfort+" (though to be fair, EU shorthaul business class typically includes a meal, even on a flight whose distance wouldn't get you more than snacks in first class in the US). Even in Asia, short-haul first/business class is at best US domestic first (2-2 recliners with a 36"-ish pitch).
