That's pretty much my childhood from age 7-18. I was born in Funtley but lived near Fort Fareham from 3-7, then near the quay after that. The Gillies was my adventure playground from where it joins the A27 at the creek, right up to where the river passes under the railway where the two lines join near Fareham Station. I went to school at Redlands lane, then later at St. Annes (now renamed Neville Lovett), walking to school and back every day past the allotments. My father worked for Tom Parker as a milkman and later for the Provincial bus company as a driver.
Great memories Tim. Tom Parker went on to make liquid eggs for McDonalds after the milk rounds ended but although the site is now built on I think they have a small operation still going in the Meon Valley.
I remember the Brickhouse Dudley foundry on the site where Tesco now stands
The crown's my local. Plus there's a lot of smuggling in the creek and they say pirates came down the Fareham creek aswell.cant beat home 🏴☠️👍
Another corker of a walk especially on a winter’s day and by train to the nearby stn. Cheers Rob - thanks - Nick.
Thanks Nick theres always a nice walk to be had even in the most unlikely places 🙂
