  • A jewel in the crown of Hampshire walks. This riverside walk has everything. We start off in the quaint old nautical village of Bursledon in the Borough of Eastleigh at the picturesque Jolly Sailor, made famous by the cult 1980's TV series Howards Way. Following the strawberry trail we make our way to wonderful Hamble-Le-Rice before crossing the Hamble river to the Warsash side on the famous pink ferry. (Special thanks to Skipper Max Evans for his knowledge and friendliness)
We then walk back alongside the River Hamble with it's myriad of boats, wrecks and wildlife , including a lucky sighting of a rare visitor stopping walkers in their tracks putting on a show for onlookers.
After visiting the Elephant (Mermaid) boatyard we finish this fabulous seven mile walk with a waterside drink in the Jolly Sailor.
Come and join us for the walk of a lifetime.

I lived there in 1988 for 6 months. Had some nice evening drinks ("Absacker") in "The Vine" - lovely neighbours !! Greetings from Ober-Om/Germany

I haven't been there in age's I forgot how lovely the scenery is there. The hamble river is lovely but you can't beat Fareham creek any way hi From portchester Hampshire 🏴‍☠️👍⛵⚓

Hi Rob - great walk. I did it yesterday and loved it. Thanks for the information and the great shots of the river.

There is no documentary evidence (other than the pub website) the Jolly Sailor was once a vicarage. As the area was full of shipyards, it is more likely to have been a shipwrights cottage.

No but the Skipper on this boat was. His name is Max from Seattle , Washington, a really nice and interesting bloke now returned to Britain to live with his wife . Highly recommend a trip and chat with him.
