“Constitutional Expert” Barack Obama Doesn’t Believe in the First Amendment

  • Before entering politics, former President Barack Obama was a professor of constitutional law. He certainly knows that the First Amendment protects our right to speak freely, whether we’re right or wrong, in private or in public. When he says that social media platforms should moderate content more aggressively, and then says that we also need “democratic oversight” of the process, he knows what that implies. President Obama doesn’t misunderstand the U.S. Constitution; he rejects it.

It is not by great acts but by small failures that freedom dies. The sense of justice dies slowly in a people. They grow used to the unthinkable, and sometimes they may look back and even wonder when things changed. They will not find a day or a time or a place. Justice and liberty die quietly, because men first learn to ignore injustice and then no longer recognize it.

Big government, perhaps. The farther away from local relationships, the greater the likelihood for corruption. Word gets around town eventually that someone is behaving badly. That's why, in part, I think the Founders wanted a limited government. It helps, too, if a representative represents a smaller number of people. Once the constituency gets to be too large, people feel disaffected and don't known one another well enough to know their character.

If one party claims Subjective Truth and another party claims Objective Truth the subjective party will never be able to put forth an opinion based on anything other than the voices and feelings inside their own head while the objective party is free to examine the world and deduce conclusions from it. The United States Constitution is the supreme Law of the land. No court, legislature or executive order can alter anyone’s right to bear arms UNLESS the constitution is amended. All other legislation regarding restrictions to bearing of arms including concealed carry is unconstitutional. You cannot misinterpret the “right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed “. The preposition to the above, expressly, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state”, provides the justification for, not a restriction of said right. It does not say that the intent of the right is to organize a Militia but that the right is to the security of a free state. The Militia is a tool within the function of securing freedom of the people. That being said the phrase” the right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed “, does not give a reason for infringement of that right if not solely so related to a Militia but it gives justification for NOT infringing that right.
Article V provides the mechanism for amending the Constitution of the United States of American.

When the printing press was invented, it was an upheaval. Anything on paper must be true, right? Society has come to terms with that mostly. Social media has now caused another upheaval. Everyone (in my bubble) says the same thing, so it must be true, right? We don't need censorship, we need people to figure things out.

@ 0:47 I know it's Stare Decisis. But I fundamentally disagree that the Constitution is just a contract between the States and the Federal Government. But rather I believe the first three words "We the People" makes it self-evident that it is a contract between each & every single Sovereign American Citizen and the Federal Government. And I do not agree that private corporations have any prerogative whatsoever to restrict any of my rights. And that my Federal Government's 1A protection makes it illegal for a corporation, or any entity in this country, to prohibit my Freedom of Speech, or any other right my Government protects for me.

In order to pushback against my own ability to silo, I have to admit that the statement, "...but that doesn't mean that some things aren't truer than others" has both troublesome and non-troublesome interpretations. I mean, we all admit that - as a matter of pure fact - some things do in fact have more veracity than others. I get why we can, in a certain context, find Obama's phrase as valanced from a certain Machiavellian angle... but as a mere claim, it does check out.

First off, I am a free speech absolutist. I'm not arguing against your main point, however you have made some unsubstantiated claims as part of your argument against government controlled "free speech". $2/day, 30 years ago, is far more money than it is today. Depending on the country, $2 a day really isn't that bad. Earned money does not represent economic stability. A farmer can earn no money, but have a farm that supplies everything that he needs, without the possibility of shortages. Middle income Americans, can have a savings and a home, but if they don't have control of their basic needs, due to market disruptions, they would be worse off than a farmer that earns no money. So, the idea of poverty is too vague to be examined closely for the sake of accuracy. As for population, there are too many people on Earth. Not too many for the planet to be able to support in the short term, but they are cramming themselves into the best parts, and destroying the natural systems in those areas. Distribution of population is an issue. If we had less people in the most preferred areas, those areas, and the remaining people, would benefit. I know that it's difficult to cover these smaller points in detail, I just wanted to point them out. Obama sucks. His Constitutional scholarship is concentrated in the area of "How to Destroy the Constitution, Using the Constitution!!"

You talk of truth as if all information is equivalent. But not everything is just an opinion: some things are established fact - for example facts established by observation, math, scientific research, or historical records.
Some truth is subjective and yes, this form of truth can be pursued by discourse. Discourse can lead people to new insights about such truth. But that discourse has to be based on facts, not on fantasy. Therefore the participants in any serious discourse should be well-informed, unbiased, and sincerely pursuing truth with an open mind. As soon as established facts are no longer considered, the discourse itself becomes false and meaningless. It will not lead to truth but to falsehood.
We do not pursue truth by confusing people with overwhelming lies and conspiracy theories, as happens on some platforms. Confusion makes it in fact more difficult to pursue truth. Social platforms that spread lies and hide facts create a false impression which endangers discourse. This is morally reprehensible and it does not serve the pursuing of truth.
