    This is so impressive. As a Vietnamese, I can say all your tips are correct. They sound weird in other cultures but they are communication basic rules that everyone in Vietnam does to always show respect to other people. Seeing your efforts to become a very nice daughter-in-law reminds me to care more about my parents-in-law and make them more happy. Thank you!

    I'm a french girl beginning to learn vietnamese too (my boyfriend and his family are Vietnam natives), and I liked your video very much ! It's funny because the way you pronounce "Da" for yes I guessed your family-in-law is from the North ^^. Mine is from the South and they pronounce it differently XD. Vietnamese is a hard language but we will do our best ! ;)

    • @AudreyNguyenVlogs
      @AudreyNguyenVlogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is so hard but I feel like with all languages there comes a time when everything suddenly “clicks” and then it becomes easier! I think French is hard with all the verb conjugations!! Haha that’s why I stopped studying French after 5 years and switched to Chinese 😂😂

    • @aliciawii8227

      @@AudreyNguyenVlogs Aw you're so kind responding me! 😀 You're right I always forget that French is considered as a difficult langage but indeed it is quite hard to learn.... I must admit I feel proud to be able to speak it ☺. It would be such a victory the day I will be capable to discuss with my in-laws in their native language 😇. I am trying hard 😉. So you can speak chinese too ? 🤓 I am watching some others of your videos and I really like your content.... I think you have a new subscriber from France not far from Paris 😄

    I'm super impressed. I've been married to Vietnamese women for 20 years with two kids. I've been to Vietnam a few times and have lived with my wife’s parents in Long Thanh. Regardless if you can speak the language, ultimately it's about showing respect. When marrying someone from a different culture it's all about imersing yourself into their culture. I don t speak the language we'll, but I always made a point to show respect to my inlaws. Having cafe’ with the parents in the morning. Helping dad with a bath and feeding him during the day....If you are an American, take your family morals and respect of elders back to the 1950’s.

    Hi Audrey, it is nice to meet you, especially in-person. I am a Vietnamese American living in Chicago, Illinois, USA. My parents came from Vietnam and I was born to speak Vietnamese. Vietnamese was my first native language before I learned how to speak English and English was really hard for me, but after years went by, I’ve gotten so much better at speaking English. It took me years to learn how to speak 2 languages. You’re doing better at learning to speak Vietnamese, keep on trying and don’t give up. I am proud of you for your hard work and I am glad to know that you love to travel a lot.

    Wow you are getting very good at this. I bet Huy family love and respect you very much.
    Also, for the older to show their love and care for you they will always ask “have you eat yet?” (con ăn chưa?) whenever you come visit them or if they have not seen you for awhile. During the meal, they will try to give you all the good things (the one that they consider good or expensive). It’s their way of showing the care and love for you. This will be awkward for you because it might not be something that you like to eat, however out of respect you should accept it and secretly tell your husband to get it from you if you don’t like it. Anyway love your videos and tell Huy he is a lucky guy. Hopefully he can learn more American culture to show his love to you, especially on your birthday. Lol.

    Hi Audrey,
    I wonder if you feel stressful of folowing the Vietnamese culture sometimes? These are strict rules that many families try to get rid of in the Southern of the country. Even I don't invite every single person to eat often (I live in the middle). However, " dạ, vâng, ạ" are definitely important to add into your sentences to show your respect, or people will judge you.
    Anyway, I appreciate that you really put effort into showing respect to the culture, and great video as always ❤

    Hi Audrey, your recommendation is amazing good for none Vietnamese daughter in law to learn a new culture and adapt to the family. However, the majority of Vietnamese American do not apply the 10-basic rule within the household today. Personally, believe that you’re in law put you on a pedestal now. They will give you everything you wanted you to give them a grandson in a few years

      I don't want to be rude, but why is everyone always talking about a grandson? What if it's a girl? Should the gender actually matter?^^

    • @kevinnguyen-ws7yk
      @kevinnguyen-ws7yk 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EriileinIn Vietnamese culture gender of very important due to the family name and carry on the business. When the elder son of the family gets married. It required the elder daughter in law have a responsibility to have a grandson. In the case of Audrey husband, the only son in the family. His parents depend on him to continue with the business of the family and pass on to his son. If it a girl then his parents wanted him to have another child should be a boy. Also, Audrey in law came from the North Vietnam which the rule of the gender of very important. Personally, have seen some of the videos her mother in law might lecture husband regarding for not having any children after several years of marriage.

      For Huy's family, of course I'm sure they want to have a son for those cultural reasons but obviously I can't control mother nature so we will see what happens. We only want 2 kids so we only have 2 chances. :D

    Vietnamese culture is pretty complicated to both Vietnamese and foreigners. My parents sometimes yell at me just because I don't know chu, bac, cau, duong, anh, em, co, di, mo, chi....so you shouldn't worry about those things so much. Kinda of those mistakes are acceptable.

    Hi, just stumbled on to your channel. A few things:
    1. Your husband and his family are lucky to have someone that is interested in VN culture and willing to learn and live the culture. It's not an easy thing. Much respect to you.
    2. Your children will be beautiful. Caucasian/Vietnamese mixed children are beautiful. My nephews are mixed American/VN. Trust me. :)
    3. If you are a doctor, lawyer or engineer, you are way ahead of most. (career status is pretty important - but dependent on family to family)
    4. What Tim H. said - providing a grandson (Chau noi trail).
    5. But like all cultures, as long as you're respectful and love your family, all is good. :)
    6. As a Westernized Vietnamese born dude, I personally think there's way too much formality, but understand and embrace the history and culture. :)

    I know you were born in the US and is an American, but heritage-wise, do you have any Asian blood in you? My niece is half Vietnamese and half Caucasian (her Dad is Canadian) and she has a lot of your resemblance. That's why I ask.

    • @AudreyNguyenVlogs
      @AudreyNguyenVlogs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! My ancestors are French Canadian and Italian so no Asian blood in me. Many people think I look mixed though but I think that might be because I am so involved with Vietnamese culture and so they assume I must be part Vietnamese. They also think I look like Phi Nhung but I don't see it. lol

    Not always works, my husband is vietnamese-american and his family disowned him for marrying a mexican woman, they wanted to be the ones who will chose his spouse, and decide when he will be marrying. The experience was very painful and traumatizing specially when they decide that they don't like you or accept you because your ethnicity or background. They were extremly controlling and months after we got married and leave, they tried to harass me and my husband, we had to use legal help to put an end to all of that :(

      It's good and bad because being modern means more freedom and more relaxing for young people but you also start to lose some core elements of the culture. I am trying to preserve it so I can also share it with my kids. Not like I want them to be perfect but I want them to understand their background.
