Such a sweet video. I especially loved when he asked the grandma what noodles they were and she just replies "the one you had the other day," when in fact it was years before. So adorable and feels like great friends meeting up years later and feeling like just a few days had past since last meeting. She's so sweet 😍

Because of your last video of her, last year I went to have breakfast at her place when visiting Vietnam. I even mentioned you guys to her, and she said you guys were very nice. After ordering food, they brought out more than what I ordered. So I told her daughter that I did not order that much in which she replied, "you only pay for what you eat. That's how I knew you dont have to eat all of what they bring to you.
this is the way the old style Chinese restaurant serves customer, they usually bring out dim sum couple small dishes for your table even you don't order yet, but they will take them back to the kitchen and you only pay what you already eat

I love Vietnam. Spent three years there teaching and travelling around. I miss it so much, I will go back this year, but got hospitalised in Hanoi due to the air polution early 2021. Its not the cigarettes, its the fumes from traffic and burning stuff in the streets, especially in Hanoi/Saigon. My doctor told me "you stay in Hanoi, you die", after a chest infection that lasted six months, followed by 90% hearing loss when it spread from my chest to my head. Forced to come back to the UK in 2021. I could have moved to the central highlands, or the coast for cleaner air I guess, but I love Hanoi, and my girl is there too. She has been here 4 times so far, so in the future we plan to spend 6 months in each country. She loves it in England

It is nice that you and Max can speak Vietnamese and ride motorbikes to explore places in Vietnam in such granular details. What an experience. A mix of heart warming traditional Chinese-Vietnamese and old Vietnamese customs is still there but hidden in plain sight for the adventurers to find out. I remember in the old tradition before 1980s, my family and others in the neighborhood always had a pot of tea for drop by guess. People behind us had big clay jars of water in their yards for anyone to drink from. No question asked. Neighbors came and chatted frequently. On the third day of the Tet New Year festival, we began to visit neighbors to greet and wish them luck. Street vendors did not have to pay us to use our front yards. It is such a contrast to the urban life style in the cities or towns there today. Saigon, Hanoi are much more modern now but also carry with them big pollution and the stress of fast life style.
Great video! Heartwarming! For those non-asians who may not know--this is how asian grandmothers are when they see grandchildren… they are so obsessed with making sure children/grandchildren have had food to eat and eat a lot! They will go out of their way to do so! This was how my mother was to children, my nieces and nephews!
Grandma always the best! This video reminded me of my grandma back in the early days of my life. Grandma in this video was treating Chris and Max as her grand kids. I’m glad you have chosen VN. I hope I can be back to VN in the few years from now.

I don't know why this video randomly got recommended to me on August 9, 2023, but I'm glad it did. Great content. No pointless intros or outros and straight to the point. I'm also amazed by how well you both know the language. Keep it up!
loved the video. Your Vietnamese grandma is so sweet. Hopefully this will bring her lots of new customers that will come often. You can always send her a gift by ordering basic grocery to help with her business.
Such a super sweet lady, if she won't take your money maybe try buying her supplies that she can't refuse. I did that in China in 2019 when the hosts I was staying with refused money. I left them with produce/supplies that I couldn't travel with and would have gone to waste.
In the 1970’s I rented a room in house with 6 students from Hong Kong . They treated me the same way as this. I was overwhelmed by kindness and made to feel special. Especially at meal time. The food just kept coming. Later I learned that it is polite to leave something on your plate otherwise the host can think you are telling him he did not serve enough food. Whereas my upbringing was if I didn’t finish everything it is disrespectful to my mother and her hard work. This led to many meals of me being overstuffed but so happy.

I love grandma, soo sweet and generous. ❤

Grandma is super nice, she loves to serve you like her kids.
I just fell in love w/ these guys; very people persons, authentic in manners & respect for others. Very Vietnamese too in speech...wow!

She was literally the sweetest lady
I would go out of my way to find this shop in Saigon, when I finally get to Vietnam. It shows just how wonderful people are when we all treat each other with kindness and respect.
Aww... She is so sweet! You're lucky to know someone like Grandma.
she reminds of our grandma. Grandma's love language is: ''wouldn't stop feeding meee'' and her food is always so good (even better than my mom cooks lol). I miss my grandma😭
Omg yes! grandma’s food tastes so much better than my mom’s 🤫
the old lady loved both of you, she knows how to thankful to you , such are nice lady
She is all that's good about the world. What an ambassador for her country. Such a sweet soul. Much respect.

Awww this grandma brings tears of joy to my eyes… so sweet…😊
I just cant stop smiling at how 2 foreigners are able to speak the language. wow
😊
one of the most wholesome things ive seen. what a sweet woman she is.
I love your viet grandma! she reminds me of my own grandma, always trying to overfeed me lol. This was such a wholesome visit and you can tell she was super happy to see you guys!
I am impressed with the intonation. . . I am multilingual, and still thinks Vietnamese is a tough language. Keep the language alive.
I stumbled upon your channel and couldn't stop watching your videos in VN. Your Vietnamese skill with Hanoi accent is badass man😊. I was born in Saigon but living in US for 40 years. Enjoy your journey!
Chris, I recently discovered your videos and am addicted to watching you drive around Vietnam, wandering into new alley ways to discover new foods and interacting with the locals. Thanks for sharing your incredible adventures and making these videos! It makes me want to come visit Vietnam and go on a fun noodle, snail, ice cream hunt with you and Max!!
You guys are doing and living the life that I am dreaming of 2 years from now when I reach my retirement age in the US. I am Vietnamese, but I have been here since 1978, and am, also a U.S veteran. I hope you guys will still be around then
Về Việt Nam đi ông , đất nước con người Việt Nam luôn chào đón 🖖👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋
Việt Nam không phân biệt, không kỳ thị, gác lại quá khứ, hướng tới tương lai, VN luôn yêu thương và chào đón ạ.
Really Awesome !!! She is Going thru some Bad Times and Still she Put So Much Food on the Table Very Generous (Y) God Bless Her
Chris, you should make a gofundme or some sort of fundraiser for this Grandma. She is so lovely and it would be great to be able to help her and the family!
What an incredibly sweet lady. You gotta do something nice for her like renovate her shop or stock it with new appliances when she's not around. God knows she won't willingly take your money lol. She deserves it.
i was enjoying this video so much that i didn't even realized that half an hour had passed. grandma is such a gem
I have been binging you and Max's videos non stop since this random stumble upon yesterday. Yall are amazing people, and a credit to our nation while abroad, thank you.
Omigosh @Chris & @Max sooooooooo impressed by your mastery of the Vietnamese language (and my northern accent no less :) ), and your familiarity with the local dishes!! Also impressed that you've developed such an amazing relationship with the local people, esp'ly with Grandma. She so reminds me of my aunts and my mom. Keep on keeping on. You guys are great. Keep producing these awesome vids. 💚
Love how you went in not that hungry and ended up having a literal buffet! Gotta love Vietnamese hospitality. Food is definitely her love language as with so many Viet people ❤
Welcome back, Chris and always great seeing you and Max together always. Grandma is so kind, sweet and genuine. You can tell she was so happy you complimented her on her cooking. That beef she brought out after goes so well with the noodle. Yummmmy!! And I must say I sincerely hope grandma's business will pick up so she can take care of her family.
Awwww this video came up on my page first time watching and I am so glad I did how lovely was your adopted grandma feeding you the finest she can make to make you happy and show you love , food really is a universal language of love ! ❤
Hai cháu này rất giỏi tiếng Việt.Thích ẩm thực vn các vùng miền.Khám phá món ăn Việt và muốn ở lại VN xin chúc mừng 2 cháu nha.
I had way more fun watching this recommended food/travel video than I should have. LOVE Grandma. If I ever have the opportunity to visit Vietnam, I'll make sure to eat there.
I tried visiting her one day but i didnt realize she opened super early and close by noon. But i'll make it a mission to visit her again for sure.
There's something super comforting about Asian Aunties or Grandmas feeding you when you see them. They just want to see you happy and full and satisfied. Thanks for sharing, you definitely have a new subscriber in me :)
My mother has a neighbor from Vietnam. She smothers me with food and treats when I visit too. Very sweet lady.
awe the ladies are so sweet and just because of grandma i had to subscribe to your channel hoping to see them more.
This is so wholesome, incredible kindness, wish i had a grandma like that
These 2 guys are so sweet and ahsome. And grandma is an angel.
