Everything you said is facts but even better than that is the title. I imagine someone saying "A Christmas FUCKING Miracle!" in a Rick Ross type voice and I love it.

Thursday in the danger room definitely makes me cry. I lost my father, and grandmother and I always think of them when I hear that song. Sometimes when I need a cry I'll listen to it. Basically I understand needing to hear this more than oncs
I love how El-P spits cryptic lines that take a few listens to understand, but then Killer Mike is just blunt from the beginning. The combo is novel as fuck.
PanicFox What I mean by cryptic is that the lyrics have more properties that make them inaccessible on the first few listens. His lyrics contain more metaphors than Mike who paints clear images. Having more metaphors isn't better than being clear (of fucking course), but it does make the song more "cryptic"; as in, the song will take longer to decode to get a clear picture of what the artist is trying to say and do. Unless you think Nabokov is as easy to read as a Wikipedia page, you should agree. I'll defend my word choice to the death on this one.
You're selling Mikes verse short there IMO, whilst it isn't as cryptic as El-P's verse it still has some lines in there that a lot of people won't clock the true meaning of. The stuff about Mike being God Like/Fighting the Devil is genius, and unless you were aware of the Hebrew meaning of Michael you wouldn't get it without researching the line. Normally I'd feel that I'm reading too much in to it but not with RTJ, haha.
"They can never take the energy inside you were born with/Knowing that, understand you could never be poor/ You already won the war, you were born rich". That's more than just a rhyme. It's a beautiful way to see at life and struggle. RTJ it's something else
The most impressionable minds get molested and informed by manipulating forces Don't fret little man, don't cry They can never take the energy inside you were born with Knowing that, understand you could never be poor You already won the war You were born rich Actually the truest set of bars ever spoken over the most creative of beats.
I agree but at the same time I feel like his verse was out of place. El-P's was much more of a social commentary and had an actual message whereas Killer Mike's seemed to be more like the usual rappity-rap.

It's that time of the year to slap this. Still remember the rainy cold night this dropped. Listened to it at 11pm freezing my ass off pushing carts, time flies.
god i love this song and the video, the secret handshake gets me every time, as well as the cheesy smiles in the christmas photo parts. real hip hop still lives
Frank Walline it kills me every time. It inspired me to make a ring out of my abusive ex boyfriends tooth. I managed to knock out one. I escaped with a broken jaw, 8 missing teeth that are being rebuilt, and a bitchin new ring.
In about 3 minutes it'll be Christmas Day here in NZ. It'll also be my 28th birthday. I stumbled across this little gem of a tune a while back and have been saving it for the occasion. Cheers, RTJ. Love ya work
El-P is one of the best in the game, up there with Aesop Rock, Busdriver, and Wu-Tang. Killer Mike is soo fucking fire on this track, but the two of them working together is one of the best collabs we've gotten in a long time.
Possibly the best hip hop I've ever heard, this was a real work of art. Incredibly thoughtful, well-written narrative, just amazing, I hope you guys get huge.
They already are, their music isn't mainstream but they're recognised by all the biggest music blogs and industry veterans & artists, RTJ2 was named best album of the year on a lot of blogs. :)
BUT, the lyrics too. "They can never take the energy inside you were born with...knowing that understand you can never be poor you were born rich" Metaphysical. You gotta check out the music video for "EL-P - Deep Space 9mm" The visual metaphors going on in it are crazy.
Oh, yeah. I saw that right after I posted and I was thinking you do good research. If you really like El-P, also check out Company Flow, that was his first start I believe.
They make a beautiful duo. Their lyrical symbiosis makes for neat dynamic. One of my faves, right here... I am by no means any kind of performer, however, I will leave that to those that do what they do. Giving credit where it is due is all. I also quite identify with Mike's part here too... Love the love, and empathy for one another!!! :)
i found a video on here one time where they blindfolded el-p and made him pick 3 random albums to make a beat, it turned out awesome. took him like 5 minutes.
and i am a fairly hostile person, i probably would've smacked you like a bitch if you said some stupid shit while standing in front of me. i don't make beats, i beat fakes. thats just how i roll, playboy.
How the Fuuuuuuuuuuck is Run the Jewels still so underground...everyone go tell your friends that run the jewels is a thing...it exists and it is fucking sweet
The words have a meaning deeper than expected. First verse can change your life . We are all born rich with energy. Positive energy. Don't spend , waste or loose it.
Can’t believe this song is 10 years old now. Absolute Classic. Merry Christmas y’all
only a few decades after the message
I always loved the structure of this song. No bridge, no 3rd verse or chorus. Essentially just two extended verses from two different perspectives both lyrically and sonically that have such a strong thematic middle ground.
Well fucking said

Run The Yules!
Both Mike and El's verses are great on this, but El's is one of the most uplifting messages ever in rap.
True. Very moving.
"Who am I that I don't get my portion? The most impressionable minds get molested and informed by manipulating forces. "
It's tough passing this message and not making it corny, props to el
The struggle is truly harsh
Might as well make it bars
Mike's is shit. Sound like every rap song ive heard in my life "im tough and i punch people"
8 yrs later, still the greatest Christmas song of all time. Has become a tradition.
AAAAAND WE'RE BACK FOR MORE
The blurred out secret handshake always makes me laugh.
i love it man lmao
Same, every time.
The family portrait shots get me
It's Mike in that wig for me!

El-P's verse in this song is my pick for the most important verse of this decade
It's amazing. I get chills listening to it after not hearing it for a while.

Killer Mike's verse is wayyy better
One of the most important verses of all time... Next to Tupacs last verse on Me Against The World and a few others. Truly incredible

Play every year it’s 2024! Killer Mike better win all 3 Grammys for Michael he’s been working to hard
Mixing the funny imagery with the dark lyrics is pure genius.
Happy ten years, RTJ. 👉🤛
My favorite Xmas gift
Possibly the best hip hop I've ever heard, this was a real work of art. Incredibly thoughtful, well-written narrative, just amazing, I hope you guys get huge.
They already are, their music isn't mainstream but they're recognised by all the biggest music blogs and industry veterans & artists, RTJ2 was named best album of the year on a lot of blogs. :)
I have shed many tears to this song. Something really emotional about it.
I have also shed tears to it as well... And I never cry lol. Strong stuff
I agree with you homie! This always gets me going.
Cause it's gospel.
This song has a lot of tough love ❤️😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾😞😞😞😞😞
"Don’t fret little man, don’t cry, they can never take the energy you were born with"
THIS!
This is what every human being needs to remember!
lfg
Why is everything they do so fuacking gooood???
El P murdered his verse
they both did
In a good or bad way?
@@cheeblerelf8223 In a good way.
Agree! Maybe my favorite rap verse of all time.
Run jewels did
This will always be my favorite RTJ track. Soundtrack of the world
Merry Christmas jewel runners!
How does this song only have 8 million views. So under rated.
Because people.
Not everything is about views. fuck sake.
Their moms have other stuff to do than refresh the page all day.
it does now lol
8 million views is a whole lot mate
damn, this hits so hard any time all year long
This song still hitting hard as ever
dude the best sound in the fucking world is hearing hip hop use trance beats. actual advancements on music. ACTUAL
i was hoping you would see this edgar.
BUT, the lyrics too.
"They can never take the energy inside you were born with...knowing that understand you can never be poor you were born rich" Metaphysical.
You gotta check out the music video for "EL-P - Deep Space 9mm"
The visual metaphors going on in it are crazy.
Edgar Mirth
yea i commented on that one. its my second favorite.
odiumimbues
whats weird is i just noticed you commented on this a year ago. but i found LP on my own with some other album. minds think alike i guess.
Oh, yeah. I saw that right after I posted and I was thinking you do good research.
If you really like El-P, also check out Company Flow, that was his first start I believe.
Christmas 2021! Still here...
Damn heather
Sheeesh Heather
"Product of a teenage love, my arrogance is derived from the pride in the job my parents did" -Killer Mike
the beat...the flow...damn
As every Christmas approaches I play this song again and again. Dont think Ill ever get tired of it!
The best Christmas song? Yes.
It's that time of the year gentlemen
Damn EL-P makes the sickest beats.
i found a video on here one time where they blindfolded el-p and made him pick 3 random albums to make a beat, it turned out awesome. took him like 5 minutes.
Damn straight man
beating your meat doesn't count, poo drizzle.
and i am a fairly hostile person, i probably would've smacked you like a bitch if you said some stupid shit while standing in front of me. i don't make beats, i beat fakes. thats just how i roll, playboy.
it was today.
9 years and still my Christmas anthem
Thankyou merry Christmas and happy new year 2021
All i want for Christmas is RTJ4.
Edit: Everyday is Christmas i listen to RTJ 🙂
Out now 😉
Whaddya think??
Here on Christmas☺️
Best video on TH-cam
one of the best rap albums ever. Period. No one has made 35mins of no fucking around before.
Every christmas this song gets better
I love that the video is so goofy. El's verses gave me tears, of rage.
Word that mf was deep it give me goosebumps
One of the best Christmas songs EVER written
People with a brand promo pic for a profile should be banned from commenting on rtj vids
@@Eamonshort1 mate, you were obvs concieved after too much red wine with dinner. No loving parent names their kid Eamon
I came here for Christmas and I stayed cus this slapped
This is literally the best song ever made...will never stop listening.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year 👊👊🎄
Still one of their strongest track. RTJ - remember kids, they're not just for Christmas. They're for life.
Forgot to mention, it's that time of year again.
How the Fuuuuuuuuuuck is Run the Jewels still so underground...everyone go tell your friends that run the jewels is a thing...it exists and it is fucking sweet
No. Underground rules.
Skatemaster3000 FUCK THAT SHIT. DON'T YOU WANT RUN THE JEWELS TO BE WELL KNOWN
Sonic the Hedgehunk nope. Only a few folks will understand why...
Skatemaster3000 I understand, but i just want them to get really popular, not be mainstream. They'll still be with Mass Appeal so they won't change
Skatemaster3000 Tell us why and we'll all understand.
I guarantee you the guys in run the jewels would like more people to listen.
Maybe my favourite rap song of the decade.
It isn't often you come by rap this hard with a solid message. El-P and Mike just crush every track they touch and still keep surprising.
Killer Mike and El-P are real and great
The words have a meaning deeper than expected. First verse can change your life . We are all born rich with energy. Positive energy. Don't spend , waste or loose it.
It becomes relevant each year and it's so fucking true
who are they to just take shit and hoard it?
who am i that i don't get my portion?
@@voyagerwitch Not everyone is inherently entitled to a portion.
@@krow9681 must take a lot of nerve for a cop to show up on a RTJ song
@@voyagerwitch hahahaha. You're in for shitty life that you blame everyone else for your own problems.
