In US news, former Vice President Joe Biden was caught lying in a heated moment against Kamala Harris during the first Democratic debate 2019. Joe Biden, 2020 election presidential candidate, claimed he supported busing, the practice of using buses to force integration of schools that were formerly separated via segregation. A fact check revealed that Harris was right, Biden was against busing. The 2020 democratic primary kicked into high gear this week with the Democratic debate, last night we saw 2020 presidential election candidates take the stage including Bernie Sanders, Pete Buttigieg, and Marianne Williamson. Whoever wins the 2020 democratic primary will go up against President Donald Trump for the White House.

Well intentioned, but badly done. I dont think he was wrong in opposing it.

Can we stop rewriting history? Forced busing had good intentions but was a failed policy which Biden was right to oppose. Only 9% of African Americans thought using was the best way to integrate schools in 1973. All busing did was cause whites to move out of the city and into the suburbs where kids were sent to private or charter schools. It completely robbed black neighborhoods of taxpaying populations and led to de facto segregation. It also forced kids to go to far away schools in communities they didn’t know. It had good intentions and intuitively sounded like a good idea but history proved that it was a massive failure that Biden was right to oppose.
I don't understand why Biden is leading in the polls. I haven't talked to anyone who wants him to be the candidate.
Major networks like NBC, CNN, and the DNC are backing him and don't want to see any other candidate truly shine
There are as lot of people tuned out of certain areas of the media. People who don't think critically either. These are the same people who won't vote for Bernie because he's too "divisive" or whatever. He really isn't. People don't use real world examples to form their opinions.

@@dfmrcv862 several things are troubling with Biden's quote. First, intentional or not the poor word choice sounds like he thinks dark curly haired kids sitting next to his aryan offspring is bad. Second, it shows he doesn't understand that resource allocation to minority schools was and remains virtually nonexistent. Third, it shows he hasn't done his homework, because the science shows that having brown kids in white schools massively elevates their success rates while having no effect on white children except increasing tolerance.

Miniorty schools didn't have that, and so miniorty schools didn't benefits miniorties. Going to a white school had increased academic performance.

Believe it or not, so many African Americans did not agree with bussing in my area. We hated passing our schools in our neighborhoods to sit on a bus for 30 or more minutes to get to a majority white school. We wanted improvement on our own schools. I was one of those bussed children. Then later bussing came to an end.

The only reason bussing was necessary in the first, place was because local school boards refused to make all the school the same quality. If all the public schools, in any given city, are of the same quality, bussing is then and only then a waste of time.
Him not being able to admit he was wrong and not being truthful now about his actions and attitudes then only tarnish his legacy as VP.
I will vote for the candidate that reaches the top of the ticket in the Democratic Party.
I won't vote for Biden. I'll probably just skip if he's there nominee. I just can't anymore.

Harris left the Bay Area at the age of 7. She wasn't impacted by busing. The Bay Area didn't have segregated schools. I attended Bay Area school during that exact same era and not for 2 years like Ms. Harris but from K-12.
