Thanks so much for this video. I know I am late to the game, but I have a friends Karmen Ghia to rebuild for her. With no experience with them this is invaluable info.
Unfortunately off hand I can't tell you what gage wire I used. I pulled these wires from a factory harness. I believe the gage is indicated on a factory wiring diagram. You can find these diagrams on thesamba.com
Where does the voltage regulator come into play (12v)? I have two diagrams that don't show how the regulartor is wired. Both fail they I do the test you are doing in your video. How does this wiring scematic work with the regulator in the mix?
@@shirleensivan4956 buy a wire kit for your year of car and follow the instructions on installation. For some one who knows what there doing it's an 10 hour job. For some one who has never wired a VW it's a 40 hour job.
Isn't there a jumper from the positive post on the coil, to the electric fuel shut off solenoid as well as the electric choke? It looks as if your engine has a blue and white striped wire doing just that. Perhaps you did not mention it, since you did not use fuel out of your tank, but if anyone else has a set up similar to yours and was using the fuel tank, it would not start without at least power to the fuel solenoid. Good Luck, Sparks

Good information. The restoration looks good as well. How's it coming along since you did this video? J/C.
This restoration has been completed for several years. The customer happily motors around with her husband with his and her beetles.

The electrical system was not hooked up for this test.

This is a mechanical fuel pump.
What about a charging system ?
@@JamesBrown-126 this isn't a set up to have the system charged.
It's set up to run your motor to tune it and break it in.
@@m.r.d.c.5179 I know that but I was asking about making a diagram for a charging system

Any VW guy knows a jumper from the + on the regulator to the - on the coil will allow spark at the plug...maybe Henry needs a new teacher!
True. But running pozitive through the key switch is safer so the points don't get burned up from positive on constant power.
