    I would like to know what you charged to replace that starter. Total price for labor and starter.

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's a Bosch starter so it's expensive - around 500.00

      @@FordBossMe I have a Honda Element with the same engine. Three years ago I had my starter go out while visiting my son in Madison, WI. The local Honda dealer had a starter so I left the car with them. When I went to pick it up the bill was a total of $853.49. If it happens again I will push start it to Chicago to come see you.

      @@johnnypipe Starter from a Honda dealer alone will cost $600 so depending on the labor rate of that dealer it sounds about right.

    Glad to see that you are still taking a hands on approach and doing repairs. A good technician like you has no trouble working on different makes of vehicles. I am enjoying the different content in addition to just Ford repairs.

    This video was brilliant! Thank you! I don't think I would have had the guts to fix it myself without this video, it's the most detailed one on TH-cam for doing this procedure without removing the exhaust. (I too have an AWD.) One thing I found is that I absolutely needed to use 1/2 inch extensions to break the two main bolts. I started off trying 3/8 extensions but they just couldn't apply enough torque to break the bolts. I was pushing really hard on my breaker bar and was convinced that the extensions were going to crack. I had either two or three chained together, I can't remember. Once I switched to 1/2 inch extensions the connection from the breaker bar was much more solid and I was able to break the bolts immediately. I was about to head out to Harbor Freight to buy an impact wrench but ended up not needing it.

    Generally speaking when you’re dealing with Asian imports you’re gonna be using 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, and 19mm.

    Just a heads up the accords of this era have a TSB out on starter issues, can’t remember if it’s strictly the 3.5 or if the 2.4 is included, but they want you to unbolt the flex plate from the torque converter and spin it one bolt hole, just something to keep in your memory bank 👍🏻

    I have a alternator in a 2011 CRV, started stripping the top bolt on it and took it into the shop, they got it out but destroyed the bolt in the process. I don't know what it is on Honda's; sometimes the bolts just seem to be screwed down EXTRA hard.

    Unless that starter has been changed they come with a 8 mm nut which is 12 mm hex but the re builders replace them with 8 mm with 13 mm hex generic nut I reuse the originals as they are better quality fasteners , just clean up and reuse them along with some lube on the long bolt threads as some times they corrode in the transmission

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it was 14 MM starter bolts 10 mm battery clamps and a 13 mm positive post on the starter solenoid and nothing was 8 mm unless you're talking about the bracket that goes to the intake manifold that you don't do not have to remove
