    This episode sets up a lot of potential conflict. Now that the Batch have cut ties with Cid she has no reason to keep protecting them. If she ever gets word The Empire wants Omega she may just sell them out. Cid likely knows they were with Phee, and Phee mentions she’s known Cid a long time. If Cid knows where Pabu is she can easily lead The Empire to them.

    Asking why not every clone we wish well isn't with Rex is kind of a weird question. Human beings settle all over the place in real life. And while it is ideal for Hunter and the Batch, it may not be for everyone. Rex may continue to fight on while some others don't which just lands him in a different place. I loved this episode so much. It was just so fulfilling to see them relaxed and happy for once.

    The thought of pabu being a possible home for retired clones didn't even cross my mind. I hope that's what they're setting up here, that for every clone who perishes needlessly like mayday and nova there's a whole group who find their sanctuary.

    I usually don’t associate these shows with comedy but Tech and Wrecker cracked me up in this one. “Looks like you got some competition” and “I will note the date and time to commemorate such a momentous occasion” cracked me up.😂
    In terms of the actual episode I did love that we explored yet another new planet but at the same time this one also showed me why I appreciate these characters a lot more than most. They care to help others no matter the circumstance. If they see someone in need Empire or not involved, they go to help. I think this episode opens several paths to be explored in future episodes and seasons. The Batch has been through a war and have done alot of good for the republic and every day people after the war, but when is that enough? They are incredible soldiers, but what else can they be? Does having a child take importance over helping more people? I see TBB as a series about change and choice. Crosshair and Echo chose to be apart of something bigger with very different reasons behind them. The galaxy as a whole is being affected by the empire and the clones are out of commission, so how do they respond.

    I think if we got this week's Mando and last week's Bad Batch I'd be knocked unconcious into an emotional coma. Therefore I'm grateful that this week's Bad Batch was a bit on the lighter side and more of a bridge episode to the endgame of the season.

      Last week's releases were a 1-2 knockout of amazing SW stuff - live action Mandalore so soon, and Bo-Katan with the Darksaber and a wrist shield, then TBB delivering a masterpiece of a Crosshair episode. This week was the opposite, with about 10 mins of great Mandalorian stuff in Mando but the rest a day in the life snoozefest and possibly the worst BB ep of the series. Obviously I'm slightly exaggerating, but it was definitely a low after last weeks high.

    I've always wondered how various members of the Batch would respond to potential girlfriends taking interest in them, but Tech especially. I pictured something very similar to what is show here: a woman takes interest in him and flirts a bit, he's completely oblivious to her advances until maybe one of his brothers points it out to him, then he is unsure what to think. I love the look Tech gives after Wrecker says he has competition, to me it had the look of panicked confusion. Tech being one who's always so confident in his intellectual knowledge, I can very easily picture him as an adorably awkward love interest. Call me a hopeless romantic, but I wouldn't take offense to it, I just love a good sweet and simple love story. That might be a bit too much to hope for in a Star Wars story, but I can dream.
    On a completely different note, the layered city on top of the mountain reminded me of Minas Tirith.

    • @andrewtyrell4795
      @andrewtyrell4795 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I ship it. 😂
      It's actually a clever idea to put Tech in that kind of subplot since it would force him out of his comfort zone and it could lead to some more and much needed character development.
      And of course because I'm a bit cynical and since writing is about doing terrible things to characters people like all this character development for Tech will make it especially painful if/when he dies.

    • @laurafreeman8360
      @laurafreeman8360 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andrew Tyrell At first I certainly didn't see Phee as becoming a love interest, but now that it seems to have happened, I can't say I'm upset about it. In some ways Tech seems like the least likely to develop a romantic attachment, and in other ways he seems the most likely. At first glance none of the Batch would seem particularly interested in something like a romantic relationship, but with the right sorts of potential love interests it could be done. Even before seeing Phee as a sweetheart for Tech I had some relationship ideas for Hunter and Echo, because like I said above, perhaps I'm a hopeless romantic (it's also fun to imagine what the Batch would think if a boy took interest in Omega, or Omega took interest in a boy, beyond a simple platonic friendship). I'm also an aspiring author, and I so enjoy pairing up my characters into happy healthy relationships. Very few of my as yet imaginary books are standalone, because unlike what Hollywood seems to tend to do, I like going beyond the honeymoon with my couples, exploring their lives together and seeing them staying in love after falling in love and growing in their love with every passing year.
      As for Tech maybe getting this extra development because he might die at some point in the series--well, if you want the audience to grieve the loss of a character then you have to give them a reason to grieve. The whole time my brothers and I were watching this episode we were wondering when something bad was going to happen, because things were going so well and everyone was so happy. Goal, motivation and conflict are the building blocks of every good story. The characters can't achieve their goals easily, it must be a struggle so that if and when the goal is reached, they have earned it. Goals and motivations can also change throughout the story, as the characters change and grow.

      @cate384 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@laurafreeman8360I detest the idea of a “romance” with Tech and Phee. In the minority, here, I know. First, Wanda Sykes’ voice is worse than nails on a chalkboard, and the actress makes NO sense to voice a love interest type of character. Second, Phee is not the right kind of woman for Tech. He needs someone who values his intelligence. Phee rolled her eyes and dismissed him when she first met him. Third, Tech doesn’t need a love internet. Would it be interesting? Sure. What would be MORE interesting is focusing on their relationships as brothers and continuing the main storylines. I don’t have faith that the writers can get a romance correctly in this or any show, so that angle makes me frustrated. If a love interest would make sense for ANY of them, it’d be Hunter because he’s the father figure to Omega, and the mother figure to her would logically need to fit with Hunter. Hopefully, Phee won’t last long.

    I just realized that there are some parallels between Pabu and Atlantis from the Stargate franchise, namely that it's an island city on an ocean world, and suffers a tidal wave at some point. he main difference is that when a massive wave hit the city, they were able to activate a shield that saved most of the city from destruction in Stargate Atlantis, and Lower Pabu gets obliterated in the bad batch, but the rest makes sense. There are refugees in Atlantis and there are people from across the galaxy on Pabu. It's also a beautiful location with many awesome wonders and plentiful bounty, almost like the star wars equivalent to the ancient city of Atlantis, both the TV show, and the movie, Atlantis the lost empire.
    Also, something to think about that the Bad Batch might be able to secure a safety measure for Pabu in the future would be to install a forcefield generator so they could save the city the next time there's a tidal wave, in the event that it does happen, since we know that it has happened in the episode.

    I think we'll find a lot of clones just can't stop working, no matter what it is. The idea of a retirement on a tropical island sounds great, but for those who always feel like they HAVE to be active, have to be following a schedule, have to do something that produces results/maintain an order, that's about as far from calming as it can get.
    I hope there is a machine factory planet out there, kinda like Corellia, that those "all I know how to do is follow orders" clones can go to and feel calm at.

    I *love* man vs. nature stories! They're just rarely told anymore, at least not in my circle of media. How do people react to a morally neutral antagonist? Also, I just really don't want the Bad Batch to destroy every place they go. Surprise me: let a place survive the Batch's presence (at least from the Empire). Let Pabu actually remain a sanctuary.

    Oh my god if Pabu became kinda a Clone retirement location. Thatd be awesome.
    It would also give Pabu a means to defend itself. Plus amazing amounts of labour.
    As for the other three. Maybe it can be retconned in a way that those three just couldn’t settle with the other clones for various reasons.

    I'm starting to think the problem with the Bad Batch is the Batch themselves.
    Even the slower episodes of Rebels and Clone Wars were engaging because the friction between their main characters made for interesting dialogue.
    Even just a few episodes in it's easy to describe what Anakin and Obi Wan's relationship is like, or Ezra and Zeb. But what do Tech and Hunter think of eachother? Or Hunter and Wrecker? These characters just don't play off each other much if at all.

      This is a great point actually, made me realise we know they're a team that work well together but wtf do they think of each other. Its one of the downsides of TBB along with filler eps, but tbf TCW did have a few of them too - Droids in Paradise, the Mon Cala arc, Jar Jar's gf, all the political ones, etc.

      Very insightful. I do think that we get enough of friction between Tech and Wrecker that we know they don't like each other very much at least for a part not enough to betray each other or Hunter but they don't like each other much.

      @cate384 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s not the characters that’s the problem. It’s these terrible writers. We got waaaay more insight into their interactions and relationships in season 1. This season, all of that has been abandoned for random, isolated episodes, rushed storylines, forced storylines, and inconsistency. Season 1 was so good.

    • @enbym1793
      @enbym1793 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cate384 To be fair, that’s kind of the Filoni method. All of the series he’s been show runner on have had disjointed, adventures-of-the-week interspersed in the wider narrative. There are plenty of dud filler episodes in Rebels and Mando. But I agree with the OP that character dynamics were more fleshed out in those series than in Bad Batch.

  • @johnmichael2692

    It was a good episode, and if pabu stays undetected and unharmed from the empire completely this would definitely be the right safe haven for the bad batch and all of the surviving clone troopers that betrayed the empire and a place to call home, maybe the bad batch and rex and ahsoka could all help the clones settle on pabu but if there’s an emergency and if the clones are up to it they can still help others across the galaxy, and maybe over time they can find a solution to handle or stop the tsunamis from damaging the lower parts of pabu

    Pabu's a good episode, it's rather quaint, but I did find this week's episode of The Mandalorian to be the more engaging one this week. Regardless, it's still good, and like you said, it's probably something more metaphorical than lore heavy. However, what if this Sea Surge isn't natural. What if on the other side of the planet, there actually was an Imperial Mining Disaster? Like a real one for once and not just some excuse. Even paradise is not beyond the Empire's reach, and a bunch of innocent people were nearly killed because of something upsetting the balance of this world because there's oil deposits below the ocean floor or whatever. Just something to think about.

    This was a good episode, but I can’t help but think that Pabu is somewhere to pull on their heartstrings, only for there to be a massacre, which will be the catalyst to bring them into the real fight, so to speak. What, or who, will be the destroyer of Worlds, is unknown, but perhaps Crosshair will be apart of it if he gets turned into one of the assassins. Maybe.

    I wondering if Phee is the Bad Batch version of Doctor Aphra. They're both female archaeologists searching the galaxy for rare artifacts of past civilizations to be brought together for museum displays and not in privates collections collecting dust. I wonder who inspired who. Maybe they're colleagues from the same university or, like Boba Fett and Cad Bane, rivals. If I'm not mistaken, they're in the same timeline, before the Battle of Yavin 4.
