When you've practiced speedrunning a game for years, getting near frame perfect tricks off multiple times, but all the donations just say how lucky you are
I grew up with this game. I just remember how many people I’ve come across, people from all wakes of life, that not only played but loved this game. Thank you so much for bringing this joy back into our lives.
In Ultimate, there's a Spirit battle to get Geno's spirit. Sheik replaces Geno and Kirby replaces Mallow. It's... actually a nice touch that Nintendo got something more from Square Enix in addition of the poor Final fantasy representation ^^;
I agree. It sounds like she practiced a lot of it, which I really appreciate. A lot of commentators stumble over themselves (not that I could do better) or start to explain something, lose track, and just abandon the explanation. Very clear and easy to follow.
I think she has top speedrun times in just about every category this game has to offer. No joke, there's a gimmick that every time she's invited to a local speedrunning marathon in Quebec, Canada, she does a new category, and she nails it in every event ;)
@@Whateverwhoification we actually just did one practice run of commentary the day before, which didnt go anything like the actual run did! most of it was just us improvising :)
This is such a fun run to watch over and over again. SMRPG is such a cozy and enjoyable game to run and watch, Justin is a great runner, and PidgeZero_One is pretty much the greatest SMRPG couch/theory member you could hope for. This is such a cozy run that I tend to rewatch this instead of doing a run myself
I was watching this live when the power went out for a bit, and everything went dark except the main TV and the one next to it. It may not have seemed epic on stream/in the video here, but it was amazing that no one freaked out live. Surprised it was only 15 seconds too, it felt a lot longer. Well done to the runner and couch!
Incredible to see my favorite game of all time completed sub 3 hours. Didn't even know about the Mack fight skip or any of the other glitches. Great video GDQ community :)
15:20 she said "thats what i was mentioning earlier about timed hits" like she was literally a character in the game giving me a tutorial and it was neat
WOW! I can't believe some of the strats I'm seeing! This video really breathed new life into what I otherwise thought was a game I knew pretty much everything about.
This is still my absolute favorite version of this speedrun to watch. Top tier commentary from the couch, insane freebie hype, and a brilliant showcase of skill by Justincredible.
when i was a kid i was convinced that there was an action command for items and that hitting it would get you a freebie, and i just thought my inability to get freebies was a lack of skill, and it wasn't until just now that i realize i was wrong in thinking this.
I love Super Mario RPG! I also love learning new things about it every time there’s a speed run at AGDQ. Who else here used Geno’s special attacks for years the wrong way ( not releasing Y )? I did for a long time and I still thought he was good. It would have helped so much as a kid when I died over and over to Bowyer.
@@drdav1 Not quite. Time is at the end of credits for RTA runs. They didnt show the credits because those are slow and not needed for a marathon showing given they take like 10 minutes.
@@drdav1 there are 11 minutes of cutscenes that the GDQ run skips though, so it wasn't WR pace or anything. Still a great run, the only serious blunder was the sea star.
i'm super late but ending timing on credits is adopted from the japanese timing for the game, and the western community just never got rid of it @@elizabethhicks4181
I did the same thing as nasur but in this game I ran around the pirate ship looking for a way to the baement to fight the boss then saw the door and felt dumb

Great run and great couch! A few months ago I was helping a speedrunner run this game and Justin was in the chat. I had NO idea at that time he was the WR holder. That made my day. That must have been a awkward moment for Justin when the lights went out.
@@joeyvigil yeah peach didnt have marios back and acted like hes on the same level as bowser, so good luck saving yourself next time, not a satisfying ending i have to say.
I remember playing this with my friend from grade school Steven the day it came out for a sleep over and in one night we got to the lost forest still got the cart
To get the frog coin that she says you can only get early is possible later on by forcing a toad up near the door, however it will take time to make the toad get up near the door. Then you need to jump on him and up quickly before the toad moves away from door.
I love watching these speedruns, not just for entertainment but so that I can significantly cut down the amount of time I spend on replays. That Mac wall was mindblowing.
44:20 Why did Mario jump on the trampoline in a mine shaft? Simple: he thought he could bust through the ceiling like usual. He'd been breaking bricks with just his own power for eleven years at that time. And a tempting trampoline makes it seem like something is hidden above! Obviously, it was a cleverly designed trap. :D
Runner introduction starts at 0:04.
Run starts at 1:15.
Couch commentary is provided by pidgezero_one, Claude, and Albrecht.
Kaubocks is host.
The lady on the couch maybe the most informative commentator in the history of agdq. She needs to be on other couches for sure.
Does anybody have her name? Id like to see her runs.

She does her own run of this on a GDQ she’s great

I really wish they would add this to the Nintendo Switch Online collection of SNES games.
they haven't????
I know, same with the mother/earthbound games
Who knows, maybe they could translate mother 3 like they did with the original fire emblem game
Ok, that info may be wrong. Feel free to correct me
It’s there now....
Sadly it never will, square owns too much of it

Amazing to see all 3 Smash Bros fighters on-screen at once. Geno is cool too I guess.
