  • Hey Guys! Welcome back to DIY Sundays! This time, I made a lightweight detangler for natural curly, kinky, coily hair using Marshmallow root & Slippery elm! Both herbs are super nourishing for the hair and scalp, providing awesome slip that will make detangling curly hair a breeze.
*Heads up. This detangler lasted about 1 week or so in the refrigerator without a preservative, so it will go bad fast. Its best to make small batches or use it up quickly. 🙂

Get a French coffee press. It will make it very easy to strain your products. And save your hands and not make a mess. Also freeze what you don't need. Put the cubes in a ziploc bag and thaw out what you need when needed.

I find that using kitchen rubber gloves (a new pair) allows me to tolerate the hot substance while squeezing. As an alternative to squeezing, I saw another video for flaxseed gel where the person used a french press, saving both time and her hands. I am wondering if this can be frozen in cubes, and defrosted as needed? I saw that on another video too for a DIY gel. I found a cheap french press on Amazon and it should work here - if it can stop coffee grounds, it is fine enough to stop these herbs too.

To help save this you can freeze it. Freeze it in ice cube trays. Then put the cubes on a ziploc and leave it in the freezer. When you are ready to use it, take a cube out, let it thaw and pour it into a small bottle. That way you don’t have to worry about trying to use it before it goes bad.

    • @YayaDIYCreations

This is a great idea! I have not personally tried this, but logically, freezing food/water stops the growth of bacteria; or slows down the growth to almost zero. Therefore, I would give it a try and see how long it will last. I would guess around 2 to 4 weeks. Let me know how this goes if you try it. 😊
