  • Worst Hydraulic Fluid Ever!
    On this exciting episode of JNH Escapes James performs a full service on Frankie their 1984 Ford 1510 Tractor. Watch while James finally figures out what the strange noise is and why the 3 point hitch won't work!! This video combines the air filter, engine oil and filter, fuel filter and hydraulic fluid and filter change to provide a complete "how to" for the Ford 1510.
    James also discusses which Hydraulic fluid and engine oil to use (at the end as part of the extras) and changes the hydraulic suction line rubber hose (before the pressure pump).
    Thank you for watching and let us know if you have questions!

    The "stupid front bumper" is the only reason the front is not smashed in like most other tractors. Plus it adds front weight that is usually look lacking.

    Thanks for sharing. I am getting ready to do the same thing thing to my 94 Ford 1715. I was considering just getting a compatible hydraulic fluid from Tractor Supply but since changing hydraulic fluid is a fairly infrequent maintenance item I think I will follow your advice. As the shop foreman at the trucking company I retired from often said, "even expensive oil is cheaper than repairing it."

    Thanks for posting this. Was watching to see what the similarities were to this and a 1210. Just wanted to give you a heads up, might want to check the oil in the steering gear on that machine. Not sure its the same as the 1210, but i know we went for 30 years thinking the steering gear was lubricated by the transmission oil being it bolted right ontop. It is not. It has its own oil. We learned this the hard way after it filled up with water and ruined the almost unattainable bearings. Hope this saves you some grief. Ours almost got sent to the scrapyard over it. Put it out of commission for 12 years or so until i found out i could get parts to fix it.

    Hey. Appreciate the videos you’ve posted on the 1510. I bought the 4wd version 1510 last year Think it’s a yr 1990 It seems like it was kept in pretty good shape and in a barn before I got it. I’m thinking about getting a 5 ft bushhog for it, see if I can do any mowing with it. It came with a 5 ft finish mower , bucket and box scrape. Again. Thanks. You have the only how to or service videos on this thing I can find.

    Thanks for the vid, I have a 98 1517 that I'm going to chang all fluids and split it to change the clutch and has 300 hours on it, I left it sit outside a few times to many and in between the engine and trans where the clutch is will fill up with water and mess the clutch up as it will stick and then you got to go push up against a tree or something to get it unstuck but it happend to many times and it wore out and really stuck , I'm going to drill some holes in the bottom so if water gets in the it can drain out.

    I inherited a 1120 1993. The lubricant per the manual says to use ‘134 Ford Tractor Super Premium’ (You mentioned yours was ‘134-B’) Do you think I could I use the Ambro 134G or equivalent as mentioned? And … would you know the specs of the 134G as I can’t seem to find an equivalent here in Australia … could I simply use SAE20W-50? Apologies for the all the questions as my knowledge of oils and trans-hydraulic fluids is very limited

I was curious about a few things, so I just got a 1510, it has turf tires and probably the rims that go with those particular tires, I will need agriculture tires for sure using it where I live, any ideas what I will need to get and or where to get them for this tractor? Also any leads on what front buckets will fit this model? I know ford did make one but I have not found any and I’m sure it’s a diamond in the rough to find one! God bless !

      I do not know about the tires, but I will say this: I ended up selling both my older Ford’s because of no front loader and no ability to get or find one. They do exist and if you find an original tractor with the original front loader it’s worth a mint! Thank you for watching!

    Buying Lubricants from a tractor manufacturer or retailer is pissing money away. Fordand New Holland do not make lubricants but sale what the lubricant manufacturers make. It’s pretty much all the same with different labels and names. If you bought this quantity of lubricant from a dealer today (enough to change it multiple times) you’d have much more in the lubricants than you do in the tractor. There are only a handful , if that, of petroleum manufacturers. Most brands, of which there are a plethora of, are made by less that five petroleum companies. It’s all the same as far as what it does and how well it performs. The difference is the price dealers charge.

    • @JNHEscapes
      @JNHEscapes  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You’re missing another difference (especially with new equipment): the blame game. If I buy my supplies from the dealer of whatever brand I’m working on and they get to know me and the fact I do things by the book…they are less likely to deny my warranty claim. Considering everything is junk today and you will use the warranty this is important to me. Is it necessary on an older piece of equipment? No. But that relationship continues to remain paramount. I work on alot of new equipment as well and they’re so picky you best learn to stick to the manufacturer spec regardless of what you know to be true. Just like I know the VFIAX is the exact same at the VOO, but I prefer the liquidity of the VOO. We all have our reasons and one is typically not better than the other - in most cases.

    I've been doing some work on my father's and it had the same noise issue with the hydraulics and after a flush and fill it's quiet and functioning perfectly. However I cannot say the same after cleaning the injectors, new bowl filter a d all new fuel lines. Now she has a miss and blowing wite smoke (cold unburned fuel ) and hoping maybe you have an idea of what may be causing it. It didn't do it until I pulled the injectors to clean them but I've pulled them again and everything looks great, i don't understand it. Would you happen to have any experience with this issue or an idea of what to look for? You were 110% correct about no videos on these little jokers on here. I've found a few forums but they take days if not weeks to get back to you, if at all and is very frustrating. I appreciate any information you can share and thank you for a great detailed video!

      @@JNHEscapes No sir, nothing at all. Both ends of the lines are flared so not even an O ring or anything. It is a strange situation and there's really nothing to the injectors so if something were wrong it would be fairly evident. It's hard to find information on these little tractors, so aggravating.

      @@JNHEscapes After much head scratching, talking to a fella at New Holland and trying everything with zero results I got crazy. Nothing ventured nothing gained right?!!! All the hoses were brand new, new bowl filter and cleaned well, formed supply lines cleaned well, breather tube was cleaned when I installed a new valve cover gasket, pump taken apart and cleaned, the whole 9 yards. As you're very aware nothing on line and the forums on these little tractors are so hit and miss with responses and after seeing what a new set of injectors costs I pulled them out again and completely disassembled them. Using choke and carb cleaner and one of my small pic tools cleaned every little hole and passage I noticed something. There's a little piece that looks almost like an old spinning top from days long past kids used to play with that sits in the bottom of the spring and when you screw the 2 main halves together the other end sits on the diffuser that sprays the pattern of fuel in a cone. One of them seemed to be worn funny on the end that sits on the diffuser so the search began. Two days later I located a set, one for each injector and ordered them. After installing them and getting them installed, everything hooked back up, primed the system, she fired up quicker than it has since dad purchased it and tan like a Singer sewing machine without as much as a puff of smoke. The 2 injectors closest to the fuel tank are different according to New Holland and the 3rd, closest to the radiator, is different than the other two. There's absolutely zero difference in any of them other than the overflow piece on top which only has 1 nipple since it's at the end of the line. Same springs, diffuser nozzle, tips, copper washers, chambers and orifices, inside diameters, everything is the exact same so the 2 injectors being one type and the one being different is bunk so I'd definitely keep that in mind should you ever reach that point and need one or a set. I also was able to locate rebuild kits for them which are extremely hard to find and as usual they were out of stock. I did however find several salvage yards that have tons of these little jewels which is good to know. I know it's been a bit since you replied but life happens as usual and I was finally able to spend the day Tuesday on it and definitely wanted to report back with the findings, the actual repair and tidbits of helpful information for you and anyone else needing help with theirs. I greatly appreciate your advice and throwing in your 2 cent's, greatly appreciated my good man. I do have a question for you, his air filter housing is busted and need one so I didn't know if you had a place you purchased new parts from to recommend or hope to find a decent one at a salvage yard I found on line.

      @@JNHEscapes They had a little trash in them as I expected but the far end one was the worst of all and also had the worn piece so I'm going to say that was the culprit. And yes, I've logged some hours on her but having dad happy is worth every second. He's great at some things but he knows nothing about diesels and after 30 years of me telling him to leave things alone and let me take a look so I don't have to go through 2 boxes and a 5 gallon bucket of parts to figure out how everything goes back together has finally taken hold so it was much easier on me for a change lol. We have a Dealer downtown but they're so high on most things I didn't know if you used another place on line or something, no worries at all. I'm glad to have found you since you have experience with these so hopefully you won't mind a fella asking a question or picking your brain if need be. They're pretty basic honestly and not a whole lot to work on but a man never knows what may pop up with machinery as you well know. If I can help in any way please feel free to reach out, I'll do whatever I can brother. I greatly appreciate your help and thanks again for the videos, big help!
