For anyone who hasn't heard of Dave, check out his live performance of "Black" at the Brit Awards. It gives me goosebumps every time. Not only does it show off his artistic abilities, it also shows his courage. Side note: When Dave speaks about Jack Merritt in that performance, it's personal. Jack lost his life in a t3rror attack by London Bridge. He also worked in prison reform and was an advocate for those who had been unfairly treated by the prison system - including Dave's brother. Jack had met and worked with Dave's family, trying to help them. This concert was shortly after the attack and Jack's parents were in the audience, as special guests of Dave. The lyrics from the original song were changed to include Jack - especially poignant as Jack was from a white middle class family, yet fought hard for young black men treated unfairly by the system, and the song is about being black.

Psychodrama literally doesn't make sense to me. Everytime I listen to it again I find something new to be in awe of, but my favourite part of it is how he conveys his struggles, all emotional, physical and economical and how it has shaped him, but still manages to deliver it all with music I can both bump to, without it being depressing or melancholy, and I think that's why it has such repeatability (I know it doesn't exist)

Being from the UK, I get why Dave gets so much love here. He's very talented. But I get why he's not huge internationally. He ain't the most versatile. Always raps the same way, spoken word esk style. I think he struggles expressing his voice too. Lesley towards the end of the track, he's rapping from the perspective of a young woman who's found out her baby daddy cheated. He sounds irritated and mildly upset rather than broken. Hard to explain in words but if you listen you'll understand. I don't think he has a lot of range musically. I think this shows through his acting too. He can act but hasn't got a huge range. Modie was jus laughing or shouting all the time. I enjoyed his performance but I can't see him portray a deeper, complex character easily. Dave is good, no hate to him. But I think sometimes we oversell him and what he's capable of rather than praising him for what he's best at. Telling stories and clever bars. He ain't the goat or the most versatile out there tho. I wish him nothing but success tho, he deserves it for everything he's been through

American here and Dave lowkey could have more influence than most rappers in America. Listened to most his projects and I have to say he's amazing. Kind of basic but my favorite song is Clash

Being from the UK, I get why Dave gets so much love here. He's very talented. But I get why he's not huge internationally. He ain't the most versatile. Always raps the same way, spoken word esk style. I think he struggles expressing his voice too. Lesley towards the end of the track, he's rapping from the perspective of a young woman who's found out her baby daddy cheated. He sounds irritated and mildly upset rather than broken. Hard to explain in words but if you listen you'll understand. I don't think he has a lot of range musically. I think this shows through his acting too. He can act but hasn't got a huge range. Modie was jus laughing or shouting all the time. I enjoyed his performance but I can't see him portray a deeper, complex character easily.
Dave is good, no hate to him. But I think sometimes we oversell him and what he's capable of rather than praising him for what he's best at. Telling stories and clever bars. He ain't the goat or the most versatile out there tho. I wish him nothing but success tho, he deserves it for everything he's been through

Dave - When at 23 you rap, play piano & guitar on stage with a musical vision orchestrated by yourself with a full gospel choir, wearing a necklace designed by yourself based on a Frida Khalo portrait, then you know the kid is on a whole other level then even Kendrick whose 12 yrs older!!!!!
Extraordinary lyricist/storyteller, pianist, guitarist, music producer, video producer & sometimes director, actor, business man, enhances any track to another level with his features, top rate performer, multi-award winner, No 1 hit talent & Best album award at 19 yrs old without a major record company machine behind you like most Americans do then again I repeat this kid is on a whole other level to 99% of rappers in the world right now.
