In 1987, MC Hammer played at the Charleston WVa Civic Center. I was working in the mall across the street, in a shoe store on the 2nd floor that overlooked the 1st floor. The night of that concert, MC Hammer, all of his dancers, his entourage, and his security team, all came to the mall before the show. I watched the whole crew stroll in, wearing wild 1987 colors and MTV-kind of fashions, as the other workers and shoppers in the mall just stopped in surprise. That's not why, it's more because he got overexposed that was about the time that he got his animated series and at that time there was a cap of sorts on how commercial you could be and still have any credibility. If you layer that on top of the fact that he's already gained a following by being a bit more upbeat and positive and that's just not going to work. Most of what this video talks about is the result of just being in, very, very good with a community that's used to having to take matters into their own hands. It wouldn't surprise me if somebody else took offense to people screwing with him and he just played along to not rile anybody up.
Third base’s label managed to get them some protections during their cali trip by giving the seats next to MJ to the mobs head for the American Music Awards show 🏆in addition to protection fees. Otherwise third base will never get out alive. MJ is respected everywhere 🕺
To be fair to Third Base, Hammer started it. After that it’s their (mostly Search’s) fault for not stopping after the fifth near miss (never mind the first 4). Tbh I would’ve asked for a different vehicle to Search and made it known on the station beforehand.

My takeaway from this story, aside that the hammer is scary. I don't personally believe that MC Serch was EVER at risk of being hurt, or killed. Their entire experience in California felt extremely setup. Obviously the people Hammer had sent after them were experts, knew where they'd be more or less at all times. But they were also clearly ONLY trying to scare them. From the mall, where they showed up, showing signs. To chasing them all the way to the air port. Sure, if left alone and without protection there isn't much doubt that they might've roughed up Serch, but the whole event sounds more like a huge stunt to scare them out of California more than any thing.
MC Hammer is the real-life comic relief character that's actually absurdly strong when they stop smiling.

Yeah, it's a good idea not to mess with weak bitches that take offence easily like MC Hammer does
AND this man was signed to Death Row at one point! Hammer...please dont hurt em! 😊
Can you imagine how amazing school lectures would be if teachers spoke like this man
It would get real old, real quick.
@@dragomirmarinov3891 The subject matter is the only thing that kept me listening thought it, though at least he's not faking
@@dragomirmarinov3891Been binging this lad for a few now. Can say it doesn't. At least he has some serious charisma. :)
Told that shit like it was a horror story, had me at the end of my seat
I did not know mc hammer move like that
One of Oaklands finest!
Side to side 😂 you ain't goin NOWHERE man
The only thing you need to take away from this story is that, YOU didn't know.
Hammer grew up in the hood of Oakland. Don’t let that friendly smile fool you, he’s an OG.
The most ironic part about all this is Hammer tried to go gangsta rap after Dr. Dre (who is not a G irl) got it poppin, and the public rejected him
That album actually is good as fuck, it’s just he couldn’t make his actual cred come across to the public since they still had (and have) the perception he’s soft as hell and kid stuff, and for a while he liked that (sold a shit ton of records and merch) until it was too late
@@SmallSpoonBrigade that part !!!
Even more ironic, his gangsta album went platinum.
0:48 "What happened to MC Serch?" Correct Response: "That's show biz!"."
Open doors: Friendly, Raps, and does Pepsi commercials.
Behind closed doors they beggin hammer not to hurt em
But he had a PROBLEM, you see... there was no Nail in sight, so-
😂😂😂😂
💯😅😅
MC Hammer sees people that test him turn into nails the same way a starving person sees people turn into cheeseburgers in cartoons.
@@FullMoonOctoberyou are too funny for this 😂😂😂
Should listen to Redman explain it. Bro was surrounded by people that even mc hammer didn't know
Third base’s label managed to get them some protections during their cali trip by giving the seats next to MJ to the mobs head for the American Music Awards show 🏆in addition to protection fees. Otherwise third base will never get out alive. MJ is respected everywhere 🕺
This is wild af. I never heard anything about Mc Hammer other than him being a family man, enjoying life singing and dancing. Wow. He was sensitive.
Soft hands
MC Hammer really said "Hammer time" and hammered all over the place.
Listening to these "Hammer" stories makes me feel better about parachute pants days!! 😂
Xevi, your comedic delivery, timing and way of storytelling are masterful. I laughed so much. I appreciate your content a lot.
Mc Hammer being a G on the low is wild af 😵💫
Don’t start none, won’t be none is a proverb for a reason.
To be fair to Third Base, Hammer started it. After that it’s their (mostly Search’s) fault for not stopping after the fifth near miss (never mind the first 4). Tbh I would’ve asked for a different vehicle to Search and made it known on the station beforehand.
MC Hammer on that "You think I'm playin?" Energy
Fun Fact, MC Hammer used to be in the Navy
And he was a batboy/ballboy for the Oakland A’s. His original dream was to become a baseball player.
@@HummaKavula-DontVoteForStupid Which, as legend goes is where the name 'Hammer" comes from.
@@karlarrington5362 supposedly Reggie Jackson thought the 13 year old Stanley Burrell looked like Hank Aaron thus the nickname Hammer
@@HummaKavula-DontVoteForStupid That's the story I heard.
I was in the Navy.
I don't even be into celeb gossip but dammit this man be holding my full attention serving Tea ☕
All I can say is: “Tread lightly when you’re around Hammer, dude got dem hands. Don’t let those dance moves fool you.”
The moment Xevi says you had a problem, just know his about to go deeper into your lore than a 3 year old looking for boogers
😂😂
This is why you don't talk about people mother, their grandparents, their wife or their kids. You keep it above the belt cos otherwise people are gonna show up and shank you below it, riiiight in that artery in your thigh and walk away as happy as a daisy.
The fact that he built a rep that downplayed how intense he is, is actually amazing. Like, people wouldn't believe the rumours unless they ASKED AROUND asked around. That's how you truly fly under the radar 😂
Mc Hammer, the definition of can't touch this😂
“Please Hammer, don’t hurt ‘em…”
Everytime I hear “He had a problem” I know it’s gonna be a w video
"Please hammer dont hurt'em"
Wasnt just a song and album
The way you tell factual stories in a way my adhd brain can just soak it up is amazing!!😂
Thank you!🙏🏽
That's the true definition of savage life behind the mic 🎙️
So it's fair to say MC Hammer had a problem with people playing on his name
He sounds so much tougher when you drop the MC and just call him Hammer. I was there during MC Hammer’s rein, I would never have guessed all this.
You are the best story teller on youtube hands down. The way you tell stories keep me hooked unlike no other!
Can't stop watching your videos, they're so good!!!
Hammer. That's the man right there. He too Legit....just like Kendrick.
I remember Redman's account of this. The way he said "yes SIR!"
Hammer really said "that oakland show gon' be your last stop". He really like that. 😂👏🏽
Actually Gives a Lot more Context to "Cant Touch This"
*Id Rather Be a Friend of the Hammer than a Foe,*
*Rather Break Bread with him than End up with Holes,*
*An Enemy of The Hammer Becomes the Nail,*
*He's the Weatherman and the Forecast is Hail,*
*Id be lucky to find me a Pair of those Pants if On Sale!*
Gotta Respect that he Maintained His Title & Ethos.
I remember this man had a cartoon show
I remember hammer being on top. Family entertainment, every 90s little kids favorite rapper. He had a Saturday morning cartoon. Wild.
Ain't the Black dude MF DOOM
ALL CAPS WHEN YOU SPELT THE MANS' NAME.
Yeah, but the DJ was the Black dude in the group, not doom.
@@whxxp2x it is DOOM, but Victor Vaughan
@@crispyears*Zev Love X
The third person (the DJ) would be Daddy Rich, aka Richie Rich. MF Doom back in the day did rap with 3rd Base as Zev Love X in the early 90’s
They thought Play was corny too but he was really in the streets selling guns 😂
Play? As Kid n Play? He deep in also?
Dude, hooooooow are you gettin' all these stories?! I was there in the 90's and I missed all o' this😂😂😂
Dude, you're really good at this.
I remember an interview with Redman where he verified his part of this story.
Please Hammer Don’t Hurt Em..he was telling you the whole time.
