bribes and "donations": $4000
I ran with a friend of mine that did it one year. I spent more than $500 on a roll cage and a racing suit LOL
@@richdiscoveries Not that bad as far as roillcages go. You can easily spend 4-5k on a proper custom cage done by a professional

Isn’t safety equipment exempt from the budget requirements at lemons races?
@@P7777-u7r Yee because the cars have to be track safe, gotta keep them lemons safe
“Objects in the mirror are losing” 😂
Yeah I lost it when I saw that, too. Do want.
Objects in the mirror are lapping you.
Building a lemons car is certainly on my bucket list. I love this livery!
Mine too, (actually I don't want to BUILD it, i just want pay for it and then to DRIVE it), though i've heard that Chump Car (now Champ Car I think) has a similar low budget approach but the races are a little more "serious" with (maybe?) less cheating & bribing, ha ha.
I have a old running Miata that I bought of off CL for 100.00 about 3 months ago, let’s do this.
I'm in Atlanta, I'm a pretty solid driver with lots of karting experience and tend to be top in class in karting and have been through all the skip barber schools and many track days, i've never had an off or spin in full size cars (knock on wood). Totally up for a Lemons / Chump Car team but i don't have the time to wrench but i do have some spare $ to make up for not being able to maintain the vehicle. And i have an excellent place for a small garage.
I heard there is a red GTI with race provenance for sale...
Your car shall be called "The Lambwhoreghini"! :P lol
Who knew racing cheap cars could be so corrupt lol
"It's not a bug, it's a feature."
yea i know that pissed me off aswell...
shouldnt even be allowed to be called racing..
having to bribe? really what is this? china?
@@swedeonhisway8608 Its all for fun. Class A winners get paid less than class C. They also pay them in nickels. You ever seen 1500 of nickels. lol That shit weighs like 35 lbs. Or sometimes they write checks on rocks or toilet seats. Plus, the cars they race are complete fucking shitboxes that have no business being on a track. This isnt Le Mans, lol.
@@swedeonhisway8608 Its a running gag. Judges are bribed by anything cool or cute, foods and stuff like that. not necessary money cause that won't be funny now isn't? .
I guess this is how fifa works
My neighbor does rally racing and there was a lemon event, he showed me the rules and the first rule said: "Don't be an ass, if someone is stuck help them out."
When life gives you lemons, go racing.
So wait... there's a mustang over the "Ferari" and the spelling is the thing that set her off? :D
she said it was spelled wrong. She never mentioned the mustang.
To be honest, I didn't notice the mustang until about halfway through the video.
mate did you read the comment?
sorry, read that comment a little too literally.
@@JohnDoe-le7ml the mustang logo is why I clicked lolt
Haha

Lmfao "cause I don't need anyone to respect me ever"!!! Jesus I love this series!!! Look forward to watching these each day!!
I think we all secretly want to be race car drivers, lol.
H&P Customs secretly?
Lesson learned. Equip lemons car with laser jammers.
I'm dying
RandoCrypto lol
you guys provide great content. i just put my phone on auto play and listen to your stories throughout work now, makes the day FLY
Runs with Scizors same here. Get 8 hours of great stories!
This channel is too addictive! Whats the story about? I dont care, lemme watch the video!
And of course, who doesnt wanna try out this event?
We need a VINwiki Racing Team for Lemons - Rob, Ed, Doug, and Randy
P WrightisRight yes
I’m so game for this
If rabit says he's good with it that means it's happening. Right?
P WrightisRight there would be no team. It would be Randy. He would win the LeMons in 12 hours.
Hoovie buys the car
Bringing a car door into a bar would be amusing no doubt!
Love days like today where I come home to a new Doug DeMuro vid, new Straight Pipes vid, and, of course, a new VINwiki vid.
EBay Freddy Mercury.
Every single one of those pictures looks like they're all having the time of their lives! Watching this made my day even better than it already was
It's more commonly called the Bravo Sierra inspection. In answer to your title question it just takes an older VW, preferably a Golf..
The BS inspectors huh? Probably stands for Bologna sandwich. The mustard must be of adequate viscosity.
RandoCrypto probably
RandoCrypto pretty sure it’s bolognaise sauce
Ur full of bieber songs fool. Lol
I remember you guys! You were the "New clutch, just installed last night" guys!
Yep. And then the "new trans, just installed last night" guys. And then he "new Coil and ecu, just installed last night" guys. And then the "another trans, just installed last night" guys.
We were the uhh... Buttlords. Our only describing features are our dixieland horn on a 93 Civic hatch, and we flat tow it with a Pontiac G8.
that sounds hilarious how the lemons staff rolls, bribes humor and flattery, lol
The mustached wonder is back! The best Doug on TH-cam.
Gus Kipper what about Daddy Doug Demuro
Gus Kipper We have 2 great Dougs on youtube and both are great car guys.
Demuro is not that good
David Kalbo why do you say so?
DARKSTAR 7567 He's annoying as hell and disrespectful to alot of cars.
I know its all for fun but i really hate that a team can get huge advantages in what's supposed to be a budget race by throwing money here and there.
"Just throw money at it" is the recipe for something that blows up within hours. We (Team Duff) used to do that -- 140whp Honda D16... it'll last 2-4 hours before you need another one. We stopped that shit years ago, to instead spend money on hookers and blow, err, RVs and beer. Just ask Team SOB how much of a winning combination a VW Golf/GTI is. (hint: they've finished _second_ more times than anyone in Lemons history. They've one twice in their new E30.)
Which is why we race Lemons and not Chump.
@@aliceshaw8265 Costs vary based car, prep level, and how much you wrench yourself. The car may be $500, but a race cage, suit, fire suppression system, tires, brakes, etc. will be be at least $4K. Add radios, fancy fuel jugs, hotel accommodations, and you could easily balloon to $10K. However the car, helmet, and suits should be a one time cost and last a few races. You can also sign up and join and existing team. Expect to pay $1K-$2K for a weekend.
The BS Judges keep things in check. You show up with a properly sorted and fast race car - you will get penalty laps. You shoehorn a BMW V10 into a Sentra they are just going to let you race because we all know that is going to blow up in 10 laps
The coolest form of racing there is! Another amazing story.
Objects in the rear view mirror are losing. Classic.
therushden lol XD
The Vinwiki channel is awesome. I remember reading about the 24 hours of lemons in C&D when I was younger so it's cool to hear this story.
One of the things that he didnt mention is that after the race, you can get your cars value adjusted. Its much easier to kinda show up without A+ cost documentation once they realize that your car really IS a total pile of crap.
Last time I was this early, Andy Frisella was still spinning in every corner.
I got to ride in a very competitive Chump Car, man, it was fun!
That honestly doesn't sound fun at all anymore. I've always wanted to do this because it sounded like fun real racing. Now it just sounds terrible.
WatchJRGo Whole lotta bullshit involved that's for sure.
Right?!
It's not. Lemons is a great time, even if your car does blow up in the first hour. The only people who don't have fun are the ones taking everything far too serious.
I've always wanted to do one of these as well, I think Chump Car racing is a bit less silly and more serious.
Why?
It took me too long to figure out that "lemons" sounds like "le mans"
Another great story! I was interested right away when I saw the title lol!
We had a rear beam break at Mid Ohio. I was driving and that's the exact same issue of the car wanting to go LEFT instead of RIGHT into madness. What a fealing in a VW!
Great use of Duct Tape- J-B Weld- Bailing Wire & very lot of prayers. Damm I gave you too many tricks of the trade. Nascar do this every weekend.
First time I watched this video I think, Ferrari is spelled wrong, ha ha. The second time I get to about 30 seconds from the end and realize, the horse is wrong too!
Always find myself rewatching old episodes of VINwiki on the weekends, just waiting for Monday’s new video aha... Doug’s epic face @3:10 priceless, lol
Just won my first Lemons Race a few weeks back, C as it would be. Twas awesomesauce and ridiculous fun for the money!
The lemons races needs to he a TV show
Lemons for everyone! Keep up the good work! #TeamVinWiki
As a young car guy stuck in Maine, Doug's stories give me a sense of hope. lol
Adam Fortin same. Especially now the roads are all heckin frigged up.
When he said that he was from Maine, I kinda got all gitty. Haha
Adam Fortin I know me too his fighting the good fight reppin hard for our set
Make your own stories! Lots of crazy stuff happens Downeast.
You got that right!
My grandpa Steve Seeboth is the one that bought the car, he put moose antlers on it and called it the Mooserati lol!
Having done Lemons, is can say, yes, it’s an awesome experience. Do it.
I feel like I have to do this race someday, because it just sounds so fun. Thanks for sharing the story.
*Incredibly sarcastic* now that's a quality a look in a person.
Ahhhh Lemons. This should be good.
I just did my second LeMons race at Nola in a BMW 328i convertible that is now a truck. The first one was in a CRX at Barber. If you get a chance to do it, jump! Seriously fun.
can we please get a Doug playlist his stories are always amazing!
Lemons is the glory days of nascar.
Sounds like everyone's drunk. Gonna add this to my to do list.
0:46 - "We had no idea that you had to -bieber- bribe the judges" 😂
sounds like a great time! great story dude!
When I had just started watching VINWiki I use to confuse Ed Bolian with this gentlemen lol 😂
Planning to do this with a bunch of my high school buddies. (we have the car) It could be possible...
Doug is one cool dude! Great video! I am on the fence if this Lemons series is now too much about not racing, with all the silly antics, from all the you tube videos I have seen of late. Keep the teams focused on clean racing and car prep safety, not silly distractions.
-at this moment i realised my 1994 accord i got for 250 with a leaky clutch line is able for the 24 hours of Lemons-
1998 golf gti is one amazing car!
The Ferrari Club exec encountered a LeMon's racer. Classic. 🤣🤣
I like this dude’s vibe
It’s all free if u steal the car
The lemon event that my neighbor went to you had to have receipts for everything.
@@GrumpyIan I wonder if I buy the corvette for $500 and the radio in it for $5000 if that is ok ?
@@batsonelectronics What is in it means nothing as long as you didn't spend over a certain amount. There were other rules but how it worked was you had a budget of $500 (including insurance)
Haha , man that looks like a great way to go racing cheaply . Cost me $30,000 a year to race in the series I raced in and eventually up over $100,000 per season . Yikes .
This is on my bucket list
"Objects in mirror ar losing" 😆
“I don’t need anybody to respect me ever”😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
I saw on Top Gear where some of those Nords over there do a race very similar to this. They rally with cars that have to be under a certain amount, and the way they make sure they're under that amount is that after the race is over if someone wants to buy your car for that amount you have to sell it to them.
Do they factor in safety equipment? Roll cage, seats, and fire extinguisher easily costs 2500 dollars. So 3000 dollars is a fair price for one of these.
@@ChefofWar33 I imagine they'd have to. I know I would, especially if I knew I was going to eat a big loss at the end of a race with no prize money.
24 hours of lemons?? Unlimited lemon juice!!
VWs are fun race cars. We used to race an 85 Golf GL, but a few years ago moved to E36s
And subscribed. I love this channel and y'all's stories.
Almost nobody got a Ferrari and Mustang mash up? That's hilarious! And I'm not a gearhead.
It's easy, just buy my ready to race 1991 RX7. Lemons or Chump Car ready, cage, seat, etc. Has a 5.0 and T5 swap, fast and reliable.
how much?
$500, yeah?
Say completely one more time with a smirk, maybe then we'll believe it! LMAO
VinWiki, LeMons racing, and The Mexican Stig all in one video, what could be better?
That is awesome! only took like 8 weekends. but you did it
Wearing that shirt to Amelia Concourse is legendary as fuck lmao
The whole bribing thing really made me lose all dreams of racing in the Lemons one day.
I've always wanted a Lemons 914. Wonder how hard it would be to get it into the concours d'elegance. Vynil wrap maybe?
"Spark it right now " seems like a Judge Phil quote
This sounds like the most fun ever.
Can I give one video more than one thumbs up?this was an epic story. Thank you for sharing!
I need a Ferari T-shirt! LeMons winner, of course.
I ran at once years ago, I had more than $500 into a racing suit and a roll cage!! Didn't even finish, but it was definitely one of the most fun things I've ever done. We had to dress up in ridiculous costumes and walk around the other pit Crews chanting "we suck" for one of the flags
I am still absolutely dead set on racing lemons in the next couple years
Good luck!
Hopefully we're able to race in the NW this next well whenever lol
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
That was a fun story. Thanks for sharing.
What I learned from this is racing Lemons definitely is not for me. I think I'd be better off with one of those paid track day/weekend situations to assess how much interest I have in racing. Great story.
I'll save you some time and money: racing isn't for you.
Hmm, I would like to go lemons racing one day. Although I never knew that you HAD to bribe the judges.
yeah but i bet you can't keep turning laps at 11/10th with all the bolts missing from your subframe @ Gingerman :P
(yes i actually did this in a 99 Buick LeSabre "Viking Boat" )
watching these gives me the itch to build a new car, last time i raced was 2012 but that was with a healthy mechanic and i weighed about 75lbs less. A texas team rolls our old car now.
Lmao 3:08 the Mexican Stig
I'd open another browser Tab, Butt this story too good.
Radio problems? How is it that the resident radio geeks didn't fix that? Cars, cameras, and radios tend to go together with technical geekery.
Who needs radios? We don't even run any instruments lol.
"Oh! What kind of Ferrari do you have?"
A 1997 GTi. Lulz!
If I wanted to win 24 hours of lemons I'd go buy a ford 300 i6 f150
A budget car race that you can only win if you throw money at the other teams and officials
Last time I was this early, the Gallardo was still in the States.
took me way too long to notice it was a mustang on the shirt
Where do I go? Totally FU, dying laughing...
I wish i could do this, it sounds like fun.
I just imagine ed showing up there with proof he got some aventador for sub 500$.
Those Kosei wheels alone gotta be worth as much as the car itself.
