Exactly this. I fell down a TH-cam hole of old bands after a stressful day at work, grabbed a couple of beers and discovered this band only today! Sleeping on it or what.
seriously one of the most under rated bands I listen to, they're heavy without being abrasive to new comers to the metal genre like the black dahlia murder or rings of saturn, and emotional without ever coming close to sounding cliched like every pop punk or "emo" band to date.. Imo Alternative metal has two mainstays, the Deftones (my favorite band) and Chevelle
PowerToker420 Wow, you sound all mighty and tough behind your keyboard.....Why not troll the Justin Beiber forum, instead? And calling Chevelle "gay shit" is your loss, dumb ass.
Everything is underrated, best songs out there are to remain hidden in the depths of forgotten... Most people are stupid and thus they like things that are just as stupid as them. That's why we're all gonna go extinct soon...
Stuart Tusspot Don't delude yourself. The stupid and worthless will never be extinct- they are a well-established majority and, believe me, always will be. BRO.... The bass is so damn beautiful. ALL OF THEIR SONGS ARE BEAUTIFUL. Chevelle is so beautiful. I'm SO GLAD that they are making new tunes!!!! THEY ARE SO UNDERRATED.
almost all their songs deal with something related to mental illness, and once you learn about it, and can relate to it, the older chevelle songs seem more mature than they where.
This is so true. I listened to a lot of Chevelle starting as a kid in the early to mid 2000s, but they have so much more substance to me as an adult... had a moment listening this year and thought “wow they were NOT okay when they wrote this”
I once wrote a story based on this song for a school assignment and pretty much the entire school has heard of it since because it was just THAT good and if any of y'all want, HERE IT IS I lie alone in the coffin and begin to question everything that led up to the moment as it becomes harder to breathe. The bitter cold inside of the coffin chills me to the bones, and as my vision goes blurry, the skeletons of people long dead seem to surround me, welcoming me into the catacombs I wish I could’ve never seen alive. I had made the decision to bury myself all on a whim: my father had laughed at me when I told him I had claustrophobia, and in a fit of rage, I told him that I would bury myself alive if it meant getting over my fear of claustrophobia. “Or you could just take the elevator this once,” he teased. That was the final straw. The next day, I ran away from home and decided to bury myself in the cemetery deep within the forest by my house. I had gotten some help from Lillian, a friend whose father works at the cemetery, but as soon as I heard Lilly’s footsteps pattering away from the cemetery, I began to wonder if it was really as good of a decision as I had believed it to be just hours prior. It was almost as if my body had left its soul behind and decided to do something I would have never wanted to do. I would’ve never wanted to nail myself in this coffin, but it felt as if I had no choice. And I knew I had no choice the millisecond that the first nail hit my coffin. This is the most extreme thing I have ever done. And now I deeply regret it. Does Lilly regret it too? Would she even visit me when I’m gone? Does her father even know that her very own best friend was careless enough to bury himself alive to get over his fear of small spaces? I try my hardest to remember, and then it dawns upon me that my grave was not marked. I hope that ghosts exist so I can spit in the face of my father. After all, it is his fault that I am dying in my very own coffin now. Kicking and punching the coffin I have trapped myself in, I begin to think of all those tales I had heard in my youth of how people who were buried alive would communicate with the outside world. And then I remember that my cellphone is in my pocket, but the space is far smaller than I thought it was as I attempt to reach down into the pocket of my jeans. I try to pull my cellphone by the charms clipped onto it, but it is a struggle I quickly give up on. Last I checked, the old blue thing is probably dead anyways. As soon as I relax my arms and give up on trying to reach for my cell phone, it dawns upon me; I won’t escape. Will the tale of Sam, the Boy Who Buried Himself Alive ever be spoken of? I try not to think about how badly I messed up and shut my eyes tight, thinking of anything to distract me from my fate. But as it all fades into a bright white, I know there was no escaping it.
Funny enough, because they are technically a Christian rock band (but don't really show it), I believe these words are more along the lines of Jesus on the cross than anything. "Could we have known, never would I, helped to nail down." (Our sins helped nail Him to the cross.) "This should be you." (He took our place on the cross because He knew we couldn't pay the price for our sins, so He Himself became sin and died for us instead.) It's really a cool song. If you really listen to their songs in this aspect, there are a lot of Easter eggs like this in most of their music. They are very quiet and subtle about it, which is their style, but I love their music so much ♥ So glad I grew up in that generation of music ♥♥

Chevelle is an underrated band that consistently puts out great albums, but this one was a masterpiece. I bought it brand new in 2004 and fell in love with it immediately. Starting with this song? Definitely the right choice.
His songwriting is some of the most intriguing and intricately designed I think. I always find myself trying to search for the inspiration behind the lyrics and the meaning.
@@charmcfarland8320 no youre thinking of the band Adema, the guys in this band are brothers, the bassist on this song is their youngest bro, he left after this album and they brought in their brother in law as a replacement.
10 years ago .. I was spending the night with my brother, after a night of gaming and hanging out I wake up to Chevelle on his alarm, I took a moment just to glare in his direction now 10 years later I'm 24 and I see what he was always talking about when I was younger before 12 and now.. it's crazy. . Love u bro.. family doesnt change.. sucks we don't hang much, yeah I got me a girl now and shes the most beautiful thing that has ever happen to me. Hope one day family can be family again ..
This band is on fire here. 🔥Had it not been for a football video game, I'd have never discovered them. Their management and record company didn't do them any favors. They're great. Drums are super tasteful and that guitar is KILLER! That Bass on the floor! Great vocals too.
@@keithwente5930 madden used to have incredible tracks. These guys, disturbed, a7x, Korn and many other great rock bands(among other music genres) were in the games regularly
Yeah I completely forgot I even had this album. A flood of memories are coming back from the mid 2000's. It all just went so fast. I was hooked to this song.
yea i know we can't hold onto the 2000's but my god the 2000's stuff forever ages like fine wine while those chasing only money or following "what works" fades into obscurity and or burning all their money to chasing those social media antics to stay on top or semi relievant like many that came out in the mid 2010's ...... to many the 2000's music videos to what rap once was *PUSHING A STRONG MESSAGE* is nothing more then pushing the drugs, guns, money and sex it's so sad man.
I once read a guitar interview where Pete talks about how he loves to sing. How he uses his guitar as a tool to get him to sing. Really shows in this video. He drops the guitar every chance he gets and hugs the mic!
i just can't say it enough.. this band is amazing! the only comparison to tool i can see would be vocals to some minor degree... everyone has their influences, right? but to me, chevelle is chevelle, their own unique sound and writing style! a power trio in their own right!
I can see the tool similarities, but so what? It sounds sick, I love tool as much as chevelle.. And chevelle is on spotify, thank god for that, but.. both bands have a different feel to them, I don't get the same vibes from tool as I do on Chevelle.
I was 10, a schoolgoing kid in India when i first came across this. The local channels used to play this sometimes and I was always happy when this came on. I loved it so much, had a lot of melody for a hard rock song and also the music video fascinated me. Fast forward 17 years and I’m still listening to this from time to time, the only difference is now I can understand it better. Music surely does not have any boundaries..
This type of thinking could do us in. No one pointed out this is the opening song on this Album. 2004, the day the CD came out, a trip to Best Buy, It took me 5 minutes to open the plastic and sticker crap to finally feed it in my Alpine CDA 9855. Anticipation...the first 10 seconds goosebumps and mind blown! Was so amped up! Thank you Chevelle!
I just realized that this song is a great example of prog rock. it is until the final rendition of the chorus that the meaning is revealed. they continually add to the chorus until the full meaning is revealed. chevelle is highly underrated in their composition, especially among bands that have found commercial success.
I've heard this years ago on a cheap ass mp3 player I was like, 'meh, its not that good'. I should've listened this on a decent player, this is meant to be played loud.
I used to stand next to the beat up, second-hand radio I had and listen through heavy static to catch this song when they'd play it 😂 I loved that radio, but yeah you hear much more of the song on a good speaker😂
The lead singer is a straight up babe..I went my whole teenage Era listening to these guys and never seeing a video or picture of them..probably a good thing..because I would have been in love :)
drewdogg416 in terms of amazing lead singers few bands can top 30 Seconds To Mars... a model with an acting Oscar is one of life's annoyingly perfect people!
Please tell me what your doctor did to help you with that. I am a vet and have had numerous tests and blood work with no diagnosis. I battle this everyday and all day. By the way Chevelle is one of the best!!
My friend and I took a train to go see these guys in San Diego, we had an extra ticket because a friend couldn't make it with us so we found a very deserving soul at the venue! we gave him the extra ticket and we all had a great experience! Everyone I met and saw at the show was amazing, they did not dissapoint. Amazing band...
I know there's some who may not want to hear this but everytime I hear this song, tears start to fall down my face.. This song means so much more than I ever realized. Whether it was intended or not, I'm not one to say.. But this song reminds me, personally, of a world that unknowingly crucified and shed innocent blood... The religious and self-righteous crucified and shed the blood... And I don't know if this was also intended, but the bug that is in the video is nailed to the display and by the end of the video, you can see she has the nail removed and the hole is still there.... She then is no longer in the last frame of the video... Maybe it's reaching but all the imagery is there of death and resurrection. "could we have known, never would I have helped to nail down... With nothing to gain, here's the clincher: this should be you" If people only really knew this was truth, they would realize how in debt they truly are.. But by grace would it be appreciated as a gift.. He who is forgiven much, loves much.. Luke 7: 47 None of us are righteous, no not one... Romans 3: 10 Romans 5:6-11 King James Version 6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. 11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
This is the only band on the planet that can compile melodic harmony, deep meaningful lyrics, dark yet inspirational undertones and progressive clean vocalism into every song they have ever produced.

@@charmcfarland8320 no youre thinking of the band Adema, the guys in this band are brothers, the bassist on this song is their youngest bro, he left after this album and they brought in their brother in law as a replacement.
Monstrous bass
SUCH. BAD. ASS. BASS.
YES
It brings great pleasure to my ears... eargasm lol
Huge sound from a 3 piece...love this song...
joe was the best.
If these songs were new... they'd be just as popular as they were in 2006.
gosh I would watch Chevelle on MTV2's Rock countdown .... i want it back!!! MTVs gone in the crapper
MTV doesn't stand for music television anymore, if you think about it, it stands for mainstream television. lol
stands for Made for shit TV too ugggh
MTV was awesome back in the day, it sucks now! Chevelle is one kick ass band.
I miss Beavis and Butthead
johnny john Osar
This song will forever be a banger🔥
If you haven't seen these guys live, please do. They are always excellent.
Saw them a couple weeks ago and at my first concert a few years ago. They never disappoint and they sound just as good.
2024 bringing in the new year. Timeless music
This is so good but you must hear “Whispering Wolf” or “The Wave” by SLT 🤘🐺🤘🐺🤘
I'm so grateful for these bands, our generation had some serious music in it, definitely helped me through foster care...
Start communication brother
its never too late till it is.... i have faith
It all starts with putting down the "rags of the past" and picking up the phone...

I've always loved their dynamics in how they let the tune unravel in someone's ears with ups and downs of raw unfiltered emotion.
This song rips through your veins and soul.... if it doesn’t you aren’t living
God. This band. Is it just me or is Pete Loeffler, like, beautiful? The way he moves. His voice is amazing. Thank God for this band.
He's fucking perfect looking. And sounding.
winningloser :} yep Perfect
winningloser :} im glad your winning ;)
+Jaylen Caldwell what the fuck are you talking about? Pete is perfect and he always have been. Smh
+Jaylen Caldwell lol its not the money ;p
This band is on fire here. 🔥Had it not been for a football video game, I'd have never discovered them. Their management and record company didn't do them any favors. They're great. Drums are super tasteful and that guitar is KILLER! That Bass on the floor! Great vocals too.
This is so good but you must hear “Whispering Wolf” or “The Wave” by SLT 🤘🎧🐺
What football game? I haven’t bought a video game in like 10 years but I know madden used to have decent tunes. And maybe even nfl 2k
Madden 05 good times
I don't get how a video game turned you onto these guys.
They've been around for over a decade and have so many great hits.
@@keithwente5930 madden used to have incredible tracks. These guys, disturbed, a7x, Korn and many other great rock bands(among other music genres) were in the games regularly
That bass GOT DAMN! I'm not usually a bass man, but it grabs you in this one.
One of the best bass riffs of all time along with mudshovel. Friggin sick!
Didn't realize how much I missed this era
Couldn’t agree more.
Man that 2005 Madden soundtrack was just so epic
These boys are straight up the shit!! They go so hard on their instruments it’s so intoxicating!!!
CHEVELLE is metal! Metal fans need to appreciate them more. They sound great. Metal isn't just about the way u look. It's about the way u sound!
This is my favourite Chevelle song. It is so good
I once read a guitar interview where Pete talks about how he loves to sing. How he uses his guitar as a tool to get him to sing. Really shows in this video. He drops the guitar every chance he gets and hugs the mic!
I mean, what can I say....15 years later and I'm still searching for a band that resonates like Chevelle. Just incredible.
Chevelle is so underrated
One of the greatest bass lines in history, that growling bass hooked me the first time I heard it
yes.. exactly
Chevelle still kicks ass! Most underrated band of all-time!
chevelle always tells good story's behind their music ... I wish i could see them live!
Just asking, did you see them live yet, it's been 4 or 5 years scince you've commented this so I wouldn't be surprised if you didnt respond
You need to make sure you see them live, if you haven't in the past 4 years. That's all there is to say about that.
@@mizerymonday1419 I haven't lol
I heard this song for the first time playing Madden 05. Ahhh the good ol days.
ikr
+Guyver2391 Same
+Guyver2391 Hell yeah with McNabb on the cover!!! Had it for the Gamecube lol
Jeremy Lee no that was 2006
+Jeremy Lee Madden 2005 was Ray Lewis
I forgot how much I liked this band when I was younger, great stuff!!
Never realized how awesome the bassist is in this band. Props!!!!
Chevelle is my band. Absolute fav even after all this time lol his voice. Ugh.
X2 :)
i just can't say it enough.. this band is amazing! the only comparison to tool i can see would be vocals to some minor degree... everyone has their influences, right? but to me, chevelle is chevelle, their own unique sound and writing style! a power trio in their own right!
Have you listened to the songs off Point #1? I think that some of the tool influence is more apparent there.
Im with this guy idk where anyone thinks tool sounds like them
I can see the tool similarities, but so what? It sounds sick, I love tool as much as chevelle.. And chevelle is on spotify, thank god for that, but.. both bands have a different feel to them, I don't get the same vibes from tool as I do on Chevelle.
I've been listening to this song for years, can't ever seem to shake it off.
This song is stellar, especially w headphones on.
OMG so many memories ! i keep loving this song ... i miss this rock era
Chevelle, a band you can always count on to make amazing music.. this intro tho. :D
This is so good but you must hear “The Wave” or “Whispering Wolf” by SLT 🤘🐺🔥
I just realized that this song is a great example of prog rock. it is until the final rendition of the chorus that the meaning is revealed. they continually add to the chorus until the full meaning is revealed. chevelle is highly underrated in their composition, especially among bands that have found commercial success.
Chevelle for life!
You should hear it live! I just saw them live and holy crap they blew everyone away!! So intense!!
Most songs sound better with more high quality speakers or headphones.
Love Chevelle,those guitars are deadly!
It's 2020, and I miss this shit. I'll never leave this point in time musically.
I agree...
Remember this song in Madden good times
Anyone else give themselves whiplash headbanging to this gem
Would Love to but Already have cervical and Lumbar damage .❤
I HAVE to bang my head to this song
The lead singer is a straight up babe..I went my whole teenage Era listening to these guys and never seeing a video or picture of them..probably a good thing..because I would have been in love :)
23Eulogy23 I'm a straight dude but like... 10/10 no homo
appleuser213 as a straight guy also, I must agree. But, the lead singer of 30 seconds to mars is still amazing. These guys just sound better.
23Eulogy23 I think he kind of looks like a young Jimmy Fallen when he was on SNL
drewdogg416 in terms of amazing lead singers few bands can top 30 Seconds To Mars... a model with an acting Oscar is one of life's annoyingly perfect people!
best chevelle song right here
Hell yeah
the fad is pretty good too
i can say same thing about every chevy song ;D
Please tell me what your doctor did to help you with that. I am a vet and have had numerous tests and blood work with no diagnosis. I battle this everyday and all day. By the way Chevelle is one of the best!!
Every Chevelle song is the best song when listening to it.
My God, why is this man so handsome?!!(In my opinion the vocalist)😍🤤
Pete
These guys carve a groove so deep locked in the pocket and layer it with staggering melodies. True talent all the way through!!!
the bass makes my heart vibrate
My friend and I took a train to go see these guys in San Diego, we had an extra ticket because a friend couldn't make it with us so we found a very deserving soul at the venue! we gave him the extra ticket and we all had a great experience! Everyone I met and saw at the show was amazing, they did not dissapoint. Amazing band...
One of their best. Pete has an amazing voice so I love when we can actually hear it lol.
Chevelle is/will always b one of my top 3 fave bands EVER🖤🖤
I never realized chevelle just wanted us all to stay hydrated
This has been my favorite song since I first heard it on their CD when it came out. I felt like it never came out of my car’s CD player.
With nothing to gain, here's the clincher: this should be you"
If people only really knew this was truth, they would realize how in debt they truly are.. But by grace would it be appreciated as a gift..
He who is forgiven much, loves much.. Luke 7: 47
None of us are righteous, no not one... Romans 3: 10
Romans 5:6-11
King James Version
6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
Holyshit they tuned their guitars lower than my income
I'm pretty sure it's in drop b, but it's pretty bass heavy so there is that too.
@@yridox8730 The guitar is dropped tuning, but also a baritone guitar as well. It's nearly a 6-string bass in terms of tone.

Agree
This song is amazing........... Love the tone.
This is the only band on the planet that can compile melodic harmony, deep meaningful lyrics, dark yet inspirational undertones and progressive clean vocalism into every song they have ever produced.
Have you heard The National music there pretty deep and dark anyways there earlier music.
Lmao.........ummmmmm maybe Tool?
Deftones are just as good and arguably better but i love both bands.
Straight BANGER
Chevelle has definitely rose up in my top 5
I appreciate chevelle and all chevelle fans as well. This band resonates within me love them forever.
This is so good but you must hear “The Wave” or “Whispering Wolf” by SLT 🐺🤘🐺🤘🐺
It is sad the bands who actually have talent are so underrated and those who make piece of shit music are the most popular...I love Chevelle!
Good music is not for the masses.
The most people are just too dope to understand the beauty of this sound.
I appreciate you so much sweet heart. :(
You're Sweet, marry me :-)
So right
Totally true story!
Still jam in the future 3030 hell yea you guys rocked.
