Outstanding job. Dad bought Mom a new spider in 77 but its long gone. I been dreaming of doing a custom widebody conversion to a spider, as i sculpt fiberglass boats & surfboards mostly. Gorgeous Alfa. Totally blown away by the mods. Wish I had a third of your talent! We are picking up our 1987 Graduate soon. Looking forward to getting her out on the road once the weather warms up!
The audio is really bad, but at times you can get a feel for it. Never over three quarter throttle in this vid. Just a brisk afternoon ride up the hill. Will post within an hour
Very nice! I love the addition of the wood on the center console, really nice touch and a super appealing aspect of the early Alfa’s. Litterally the only well not even critique would be the back looks a little like a Corvette, probably just the Angle. The rest is unbelievably cool
Thanks. Wish I had done better vids before I sold her. But even at reduced throttle, the sound of that engine in one vid here still raises the hair on the back of my neck. Nothing sounds like the Nord at 7k with 170+ hp. Just lovely.
Obviously a labor of love and the result is amazing. I learned to drive stick on my Dad's 1600 Duetto -- was I a lucky teen or what? The Duetto's cockpit and that long-throw shifter remain vivid to me. It was a far more memorable sports car than the Series 2 E-Type I owned in my late 20s. And that gives me the right to insist you do another video of this car -- and let it do the talking.
I would love to to see more of the process, custom body work, trim and interior that went into this. I just bought an '86, I'm working on getting it up and running as it should, then optimizing performance, and cosmetics come last. I'm in the R & D phase right now.

I searched Veloce Busso swap and got this. After seeing the space under the hood, its obvious why. If you like the way it looks then its mission accomplished.
All in the build. Like keeping English 60's bikes dry. I use different seal materials for different applications. But you can find everything you need in the permatex line if you want to one-stop it. Ultra black, gray, etc. Just choose based on the fluid type to seal against, as well as mechanical stresses. Watch vids on ex-nasa people and gaskets. And be patient.
Kevin, what HP increase would your estimate Alfa now has? Removing the FI and altering the exhaust would not pass a smog test in California and many other states. Luckily, Hawaii has no smog test requirement. When I added Carello headlight covers to my 82 Spider, instead of using those supplied chrome clips, I drilled the hole where the clip pin goes and secured covers with a small hex bolt into a lock-nut underneath. Much cleaner look. I also added adjustable upper-control arms to front suspension allowing for much more precise alignment and better handling. Along with a lightened gear trans, it's a real shifting pleasure to drive. I really like your body and under-hood mods and Black would seem to be the right body color. What are those taillights from? Do you still have reverse lights? Why did you remove sun-visors?, didn't like the looks? Body also looks a bit cleaner with tiny side marker lights. A dark gray tonneau might also be in order (you could spray it with fabric spray. You could always spray it back tan).
@GereDJ2 good to hear from you. Yeah, I'm just guessing, but having dyno tuned a few 2L motors, I expect, with the current cam timing dialed in for best torque, about 160hp. Maybe 170-175 otherwise. Also massaged the trans quite a bit. Those ZFs are a pleasure to build and run. Good mod for the lenses. I stuck with stock hold downs. Same here on the upper arms. I sort of cherry picked amoung the years. Taillights are 100mm trailer units. Picked those because I thought if a market developed for the front and rear parts, I wanted the buyer to have access to lights, rather than hunt up something rare. I did not get around to adding the backup light. I'm just Taillights enough to have the visors limit my vision. It was originally black, and I am a big fan of ppg concept. I had also ended up with some black after repairing an original 289 cobra. So it all conspired to be black. I sold the car in 2022, so not much I can do at this point. Cheers, and keep up the love for our special classics.
aloha!!! Looks amazing!! Just took my 1991 and 1983 Alfa romeos out of storage. Looking to rebuild both. 🤦♀️ not even sure where to start. It needs a ton of work. Lol. Looking for any help you can give. Trying to locate parts online. Would you have any suggestions on where to look???
Aloha. Sure. Vicks Auto is a great place for reasonably priced parts. Huge selection and fast shipping. Alfaholics in England for performance parts. Classic Alfa for a range of parts. I do NOT recommend Centerline at all. You can find everything they sell at the other places. Best of luck and have fun.
Engine looks great and the mods would be too. Good thing you did re-doing the electricals. I'm sure that's a major improvement and I liked the GPS telemetry capture integration. Great idea! But, while I don't hate them, I really didn't like the modified rear end or the front scoop. I prefer the original taillights to the Vette-style round ones. Basically, I really can't understand the desire to make an Italian Alfa look like an American Corvette. I do admire your skill and ability to fabricate them however, so there's points for that. I guess we just have different tastes. Ultimately, as long as you're happy with it though, is all that counts.
Have you ever sold a printed copy of the front and rear? If you are willing, now much would you charge? I have a red 1986 Graduate that had a Bosch EFI and I am converting it to dual weber carbs. The paint is fresh and it is a 38k mile car that had electrical issues early on and was parked. The body is beautiful, but the front trim below the bumper was damaged and painted flat black to match the bumper and I was going to buy another and have it painted at a friends shop. When I saw the nose of your car, I just had to ask. It is that beautiful. great work!
Thanks. Sure. The molds are on Maui. The problem is cost of reproduction. When I calculated the material and labor, it was around $1100 for the front, and $1600 for the rear in epoxy and S-glass. Carbon was another $450 per end. Then you have shipping. And that, now, is just stupid expensive. To be honest, I just don't see it being cost effective unless you absolutely have to have something unique.
