Now can you do a video about the life of an F1 driver: how & when do they get started, how long is an average career, what do they do after retiring, what are some examples of drivers doing different careers, and do they end up broke or all living the goodlife? Where are all of last year's drivers that aren't driving this year? In comparison, a pro American football player usually has a short career and can end up broke and/or brain injured.
Omg I watched my first race in 2018.... Had no idea what was happening who was driving but I was transfixed on the TV cheering for I didn't know who LOL. Immediately after, I spent the next few days on TH-cam University lol watching history documentaries and reading anything that would tell me what I was watching. So these videos I appreciate. Great Job!
Your F1 explained video is WAYYYY better than most of the North American creators who just show their own experience and talk about how much they are crazy about F1 rather than simply explaining it lol.
This video is exactly what I suggested in a comment recently. As expected, anybody can always learn something new and there were a few facts in here I'd never heard before. Well done!
Thank You for the informative video. I will be going to my first F-1 race on May 27 and 28th and I am watching as many videos to learn as much as possible!
Good to see you wearing an Amsterdam T-shirt! Looks good on you. And You know that Southern Comfort is prtty cheap here in the Netherlands, I texted you about that earlier. So take your chance next August!!
Congratulations Kym that was so simple and informative, couldn't have done better myself. My 4yr old granddaughter loved it. She said you forgot the lock ups, lolol she luvs lock ups 😂❤
Actually 6 dry tyre C0-C5. 3 are selected for each race weekend, so 1 week C1-C3, C2 would be the medium tyre. But next week C0-C2 making C2 the soft tyre. Or C2-C4 making C2 the hard tyre. Because apparently thats easier than the old hypersoft, ultrasoft, supersoft, soft, medium, hard, ultrahard system with individual colour markings they used pre 2019.
Did you crop yourself back to your house? I thought you were stuck in SA... or pre-made video for a time you'd be stranded in a foreign country? curious. Keep em up Kym, great content.
this jeda round is one of the most important F1 races in recent history. A dangerous track, with about five teams needing to prove something. I am so jealous you get to ride the circus... still think you need a chubby beardy assistant - you need 360 degree cameras to follow you around for your channel.
I love the video but the Haas logo is last year. I'd put money on the fact its a early 2022 video that's only seeing the light of day now. I might be wrong though but great video anyway
Kym Illman my man hi greetings from Vancouver Canada my friend how are you doing mate I have some news in regarding to the Las Vegas Grand Prix this year mind if I ask you a few questions
They should get rid of the DRS. Scotch and Soda is like a bad word in Scotland 😀Always drink Neat or add a few drops of distilled water if it is above 46% abv.
For the duration of the weekend, which includes practice sessions, qualifying and the race, each car/driver is allocated a limited set of tyres: two sets of hards, three sets of mediums and eight sets of softs per car plus intermediates and wets if needed. This was introduced partly to reduce the amount of tyres being shipped around, and it also introduces an aspect of tyre management through the race weekend to each of the teams, meaning that they have to be careful how they use them throughout the days. Some of the sets used during practice sessions have to be returned to Pirelli within a certain time limit after the session. Teams do end up keeping "used" tyre sets for race day, which they can and often do use during the race. Wet weather conditions modify these rules a bit, as during the rare race when wet weather tyres are used from start to finish, they're not required to use two different types of compounds. This means that doing a wet weather race on a single set of tyres can and has been done, most recently by Esteban Ocon during the 2021 Turkish Grand Prix. This is extremely risky, though, and the wear on Ocon's tyre by the end of that race was such that he started dropping back extremely quickly and would have likely suffered a tyre failure if the race had gone on any longer.
I don't think theres a restriction on number of laps but there is a time limit. Usually an hour before the race start the track opens and they can do a few laps usually called a shakedown. But the cars will be parked on the grid between 25 and 30 minutes before the race start time
Kym, I love F1, and love my cars (that all have ICE engines) and I don’t ever want to change. Why is it that F1 Wants to be woke and pretend to care, saying that they will be carbon neutral by xyz date. They race ICE cars, and fly huge teams on huge planes, race with gas, oil, tires, warming blankets, etc etc. and all the supplies to 20 plus countries and ship the rest in tractor trailers. No way that will ever be carbon neutral. It’s like Lewis Hamilton selling his jet, stating he wants to reduce his carbon footprint. Get real! Quit the sport. Can we all just agree to just love F1 for what it is? Leave carbon neutral to Pete buttegeig riding his bike, and all the movie stars claiming to be worried as they hop in their jets with their posse. Oh, not to mention Biden’s 200 billion gift to railroad travel as they derail and spew tons of pollution in Ohio
This sort of content frustrates me. It's constant pandering to new fans. Whatever happened to finding this stuff out for yourself through observation? It's not kyms fault but it is possible to recognise that some people were fans before drive to survive.

If you are new to f1, then Kym Illman's channel is a must watch for you.
Very well put together Kym. The graphics, your pics and the explanations go straight to the point
Cheers Rodolphe
Thanks for the great synopsis of F1. A very good video for anyone trying to figure out how F1 works.
Omg I watched my first race in 2018.... Had no idea what was happening who was driving but I was transfixed on the TV cheering for I didn't know who LOL. I really like the editing style in your videos. The quick edits complement your slower commentary
Thanks to Nicols for this edit.

Wonderful post production quality, animation, and great cadence in your delivery. Thank you.

I enjoy your channel so much Kym- the variety of content all F1 related. Thank you so much.
Glad you enjoy it!
This is a must view for anyone who is new to F1
Even F1 themselves couldn't explain the way you did it man! Amazing work!
More actual facts than all 5 seasons of Drive to Survive. Well done Kym.
Thanks for good informative videos, learn a lot!
Watched the full video in 1 minute, I love watching at 13x speed

2023 content is fantastic so far Kym. Your life basically revolves around F1 now I imagine.
Excellent disertation. TY !
Congratulations Kym that was so simple and informative, couldn't have done better myself. My 4yr old granddaughter loved it. She said you forgot the lock ups, lolol she luvs lock ups 😂❤
Many thanks Fiona.
This was great! Super informative
Glad it was helpful!
Great info. Thanks.
I always stay to the very end for the outtakes.
It’s working then.
Well said Mr Kym

Great video!! 👏
Well done, thanks
Hi Kym As i said before you are a genius and a walking encyclopedia of F1 very well presented and educative video cheers. Gowra
Thanks, you too!
Best outtake till now! XD XD
Bloopers please 😊
weren't those full wet tires while you were talking about the hards at 7:51 ?
My editor missed that one.
Did you crop yourself back to your house? I thought you were stuck in SA... or pre-made video for a time you'd be stranded in a foreign country? curious.
Keep em up Kym, great content.
I watched this in hd and wow kym beautiful mate team up with matt

Do a video on all the race engineers of 2023
I love the video but the Haas logo is last year.
Love the content, as always! Dislike the old Haas logo at the start, though.
@Kym Illman, you should do an blooper video.
They should get rid of the DRS. Scotch and Soda is like a bad word in Scotland 😀Always drink Neat or add a few drops of distilled water if it is above 46% abv.
A driver is required to stop once and use 2 compounds of tire unless its raining.
Pretty sure that Haas logo at 0:29 needs an update Kym.
I am concerned about the tiers, do they use new tiers on race day? Please make me understand how teams use tiers from FP to Quali to Race Day

Kym, how come you’re still using the old Haas logo with Uralkali not Moneygram?
How many warm up laps can a car do before joining the grid?
I don't think theres a restriction on number of laps but there is a time limit. Usually an hour before the race start the track opens and they can do a few laps usually called a shakedown. But the cars will be parked on the grid between 25 and 30 minutes before the race start time
Some of the constructor logos you used at the beginning were out of date - Uralkali Haas instead of Moneygram Haas
"darta" 😭😭😭
Good overview for beginners but explaining sprintraces by only mentioning FP1 will more likely confuse newcomers.
Oops Kym, Urakali Haas don't you mean Haas Moneygram.
Great explanation for a newbie though!!!
I do.
Here’s my question - is it the car or the driver? If both, what’s the balance?
RedBull had a record pitstop under 2 seconds
Simply Loved the video kym
So what team is Seb subbing in at to get his 37 points this year?
Who decides number of laps in a f1 race as it changes every track
The FIA, each race is around 305 km long
(305÷track length) then round up to the nearest full lap

Uralkali Haas 😂
UralKali Haas?
you used an old logo for Haas. Unless the russians are allowed back.
In 8 seconds?
That’s the length of the intro

Oooof please stop with the backround music its soo bad and distracting.

Yes Kym, your vids are the best. But PLEASE, stop showing pics of people wearing masks. That was a very ugly part of history.
Can’t help you there I’m afraid.
Ural Kali??? You need to upgrade the downloaded picture at the beginning of the clip and change Haas sponsor
You wouldn’t have commented if I had though.
super sensitive american supporter shill

@Boss Men not American and definitely not Russian supporter.
