- ABOUT ME
I sold all my belongings to move into a van in the summer of 2022. Vanlife in New England is not easy but I figure it out. I also showcase the heck out of this beautiful part of the USA.

New to your beautiful vids❤I’m a retired nonprofit Executive who ran social and development operations in Los Angeles for over 35 years. Listening to your rehearsal and prep for this job, impressed me and your communication skills are excellent. Wishing you much success on interview and looking forward to positive outcome. Onward and upward. 🎋
Appreciate the support!
I've been a corporate recruiter for the past 25 years. Your response to the salary question is by far the best I've seen. You were able to convey your openness to negotiation without sacrificing your value. All the best!
You are so well spoken. Good luck on your interview.
Thanks! Appreciate the support!
I like your honest and transparent approach to your interview. It speaks to your character. That company would be lucky to have you. Select carefully. I’m sure your talent will give you options and choices. No luck needed. Just be yourself.
Hey, Matt. Without a doubt, for many reasons, you ARE helping a lot of people with this video. One reason is that many people are apprehensive, shy, or simply do not know the proper / best way to approach or present themselves in a job interview for the best chance of success. Especially in the corporate world. Ty, good luck, and keep on keeping on.
Well done with the interview questions and responses. Good luck!
This is probably my favorite video of yours, Matt. I found it so entertaining. I appreciate how well thought out it is and how you interleaved various clips from different settings as you progressed through the Stages of Pre-interview Prep. For such a numbers guy, you've really got quite a delightfully creative side. I hope you got the X offer and not the X-5 or 10. It's always better to get the offer and turn it down than not get the offer 😉 Kudos for this masterpiece 🙌
Thanks for the support! Fingers crossed!
And we love your honesty..and your every day life..good luck with your job
thanks!
Matt, your videos are great. Your story telling is fascinating and your metaphors make me laugh. Your photography is right-on-the-mark. I grew up in Western Mass and I'm back in my old haunts for retirement. I was an auditor for the Federal Gov't so I know about detail work. I'm sure you will be an amazing fit for an agency that works to make housing more affordable. I believe the (EOHLC) has given a grant for apartments in Holyoke.
If you need a place to park for the night near Palmer my yard is available not too far from Exit 63 off the Masspike.
Thanks and thanks for the offer!
Good luck man! I can clearly see the confidence to take on any challenge. This confidence is something that you referenced a few videos back, and I know you will channel that confidence going into the interview. The opportunity is theirs to lose.
I never thought I'd enjoy watching a job interview but here we are lol. Good luck! Sounding great as always
Thanks for the support, I hope so too! Nice to see you skiing in the Berkshires!
YOU are the mission statement. I think they will be inspired by you.
I believe your going to get that Job you did a good job on the questions
You post really good videos and have the coolest van I have seen on TH-cam. As a recent subscriber who has punched the bell I went back into your TH-cam history and your videos on building out your van were great. I really don’t understand why you don’t have more subscribers.
Appreciate the love! It's a long game, gotta keep creating and hope people find it interesting!
Good luck on this. It's great when you get to work in the world you belong in.
Thanks bro, will definitely feel some relief after this week wraps up
@@undertheradarvan Also, I watched your equipment video a few times. Man we have a lot of the same quirks. I bet the rest of the viewers are the same. Any way. I am seriously looking at getting that dashcam you bought. People in Arkansas, particularly in the semi-rural areas, like to get aggressive with their vehicles for absolutely no good reason. I may need one of these to clear my name if this keeps up. :)
$400 is a bit steep. I'm going to try to keep my nose clean until after Christmas and see if they go down a bit. I am going to get one regardless though. It's needed out there these days--vanlife or no.
Sounds like you went to my hospital Beth Israel.good luck hope all is well
Good luck, interesting interview prep! And a very merry Christmas!❤
You are nailing it, Matt! Mobile housing could be the way to go and a great solution. Good luck and stay warm 😊
thanks! struggling to stay warm today!
You sound like a good worker and your story sounds familiar to what I once heard a "tour supervisor" at the USPS say .. "We don't try to get the dead wood to work ... we make the good workers work harder." That's when I knew I didn't want a permanent job there. Good luck!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I worked USPS for 14 very long years. I had a supervisor tell us, "We don't pay you to think!"
Yep an when you wear out they toss you out the door like a piece of scrap wood then off to a light assembly job
It's like that way in almost all government work environments unfortunately. Efficient workers are "rewarded" with more work.
Good luck with the job, they will be lucky to have you.
appreciate it
Great interview answers.
Good luck on your interview!
Based on your rehearsal, I’d say you will do well!
Thnx
I hope you get the job!❤❤❤❤
Thanks me too
Great video, hope the best for, don't settle for anything less than what you deserve, vanlife from 70degree AZ 😎✌️
Excellent interview!
Aloha Matt - Have a great interview, we all know you’ll do well 🤙
thanks for the support island girl!
You got this!! 🤞😊
thanks!
Good luck Matt!! You have 6.4K more followers than the interviewers. Go Get' Em! I'll give you a reference. My boy Matt is wicked smart!!!!
Hah! Thanks Lorraine!
Well done Matt👍🏻💯and you seldom touched your face 👏🏻
Hah! Thanks
Good luck on the interview. I hope you get hired.
You are very articulate. Good luck with the interview.
thanks
Excellent interview skills there sir! I hope you get the job if you really want it. I have always loved interviewing for jobs and now that I am retired, I kind of miss it. My friends always asked me "how did you get that job?" I would say, "wellllll, I look good on paper and I interview well." Best of luck to you and their loss if you don't get it!
Thanks Dottie, is something you definitely start to enjoy after confidence and experience sets in.
Good luck with the job interview! Loved this video.
thanks bro
You're hired 😊. Well.. good luck 👍 Btw your answers were really good.
Thanks
You're hired!
Good luck!
Thanks! Fingers crossed!
Why are you applying to this job…why now?
I think you should read deeper into the question to find the answer. They’re trying to find out what’s motivating you to leave your current position and if you truly read their job description.
Dig deep here. What’s in your soul to leave? What are you looking for?
Reiterate time at current position. Maybe their job is the next most logical step in your career path? Tell them what you bring to the table(hitting a few points in the job description).
Salary: take the low # and the high #. Add them together. Then divide them by 2 & add 5%.
You never want to be too low in the range or high.
Reframe “living in a van” to “I have wholeheartedly embraced van life.” It’s an excellent way to overcome the ever increasing housing cost/crisis. It’s helping me to explore my logical, steadfastly independent and introvert side. Your TH-cam allows you too ignite your creative and extroverted side.
I’m looking forward to hearing about your interview and how you thought it went. I think you will do well. Stay positive.
Also, digging the pants. Hehe
You sound like the perfect candidate!
Great video. New fan.
thanks
A director level position is about leadership mostly. Leading by example is the best leadership there is. The housing crisis is a difficult problem. I think your van living spotlights what people are willing and capable of doing to meet their shelter needs. You know whether you are out in the wood or just trying to live in modern society shelter is the number one priority. Water and food come next. Cheers and good luck!
thanks Jim!
Congratulations on the job interview! Good luck and Merry Xmas.
I say 'yes' to dependable transportation. Nike Express and bus transit are very dependable.
Everything is so expensive matt food rent mortgages gas and everything else that goes along with it this is why I have did it so many years this helped me get out of debt and fix my vans high quality and save money
You sound like the perfect candidate! 😊
i wish you the best good luck
thanks
I would hire you. Good luck
You sound like the perfect candidate! How could they -Possibly- refuse! 😊👍🏻
Thanks!
I’d hire you and I don’t have any openings! Nice preparation. 👍
Hah - thanks!
Last job interview I had, they said the same thing: "Tell me about yourself."
I thought about it for bit and said, "You know, I could, but I really want this job."
Did you get the job?
I would hire you!!😂🙌
Good luck
Thanks Ruth!
❤😊
thnx
You should def get that job
I agree!
😎
Maybe you can invite them into your van & do the interview there
Best of luck with the interview., Matt. I hope you are able to get the job, and the salary you are hoping for. It w ould be interesting know exactly what low income housing (and NOT Affordable HOusing,, bc there is a difference) that the EOHLC has produced since 2023. I am assuming this is a Mass. entity and not a Federal one. One final thought, Does EOHLC consider you homeless if you live in a car/or van/ or camper? And then the problem is,, what do you use for an address?
Would love to find out more about their programs from the inside. Re-branding existing housing stock as "affordable" is not creating new housing in my opinion, because it it just reducing available supply to the middle class even further.
@@undertheradarvan I agree what u said about rebranding. Very tricky fix to a serious problem. The wait for low income housing is about 5 or 6 years. Sucks.
i take it you did not do your customary "peace out" and accompanying hand gesture at the end of the interview or did you ?
If you said "they have a conflict of interest" it might be better to say "might have a conflict of interest". Also as you are a stakeholder with van you provide to the state an opinion that may represent a segment of van owners.
Do you listen to First Wave SiriusXM?
I do not, what kind of music is it?
"Affordable housing" Can YOU define such? I hear it ALL the time but NO ONE who uses it has been able to define the term.
QUESTION: Do you use a VPN on your laptop? If so, which one?
nord
You're such a cutie. I hope you get the job.
You should talk more about your world views. Have you been outside of the USA yet?
You seem very smart. I appreciate your perspective on the housing debate.
Buy yourself a larger shirt when you get the job!
Selfish me, I just hope your new job doesn't require 80 hours a week. Then where would we find such a good YTer???
Just less time for sleeping and eating!
They can’t or shouldn’t even bring up where you live during your interview.
If you get a decent paying job then you can move into affordable housing. Haha. Those two words are funny together
The "affordable housing" in MA requires you to earn below the poverty level, unfortunately. There's no scaleability which is part of the problem.
You won't get the job. Most people are set in their ways thinking everyone should have apartment or house. The van situation shouldn't be talked about until you have worked there for a while.
I wish you’d stop touching your face.
Well, you are certainly capable of explanation!
I hope your interview proves fruitful.
thanks
I think that is definitely a mistake on your part, in the CV you should talk about soft and hard skills. Living in a van might give them reasons to think you smell or you have other health issues. Adding a youtube channel in the mix might make them think you will make information public such as company projects/events... You invested allot of money on a stealth setup, definitely try and keep it that way.
Yeah I think he made a big mistake. I was living in my car from 2012-2017 & I never told my jobs about that. I always would always put my previous address on the job application & my PO box. Never give out too much info about yourself.
Good luck!
