I'm a trucker that drives local routes for about 8-10 hours a day, i do alot of waiting. Gettting a carcharger that keeps the deck charged while waiting hours at the shipper or reciever is a godsend. I've spent up to 4 hours waiting for loads and the entire time i'm just gaming in my truck. I connect it to my hotspot on my phone and i can play online. Best purchase i ever made.

One thing you 'forgot' to mention is the fact that Valve is not opposed to having their OS on other 3rd party devices.
It's just an Linux branch after all, which Valve has been very open about. They're even in talk with some other handeld PC manufactures about putting SteamOS on their devices as well.
So even if you decide to buy the new and upcoming better handheld PC, you could possibly either have it delivered with SteamOS already installed on it, or install it yourself.

I'm also going through resident evil 7 and 8 right now, both of which play at 60 fps max settings. It's bonkers. The actual nasty secret of the 64gb model is that the shader cache goes on your internal storage, and a few big games can expand the cache to fill up all your internal storage. For example, Borderlands 3 takes up over 10gb on your internal storage, even if the game is loaded on the card.

Just get a 256gb micro SD for $30. It's about as fast as the SSD. You save so much money while getting as much or more space. So I wouldn't say it's a nasty secret especially when so many people have micro sd cards laying around. If they were expensive that'd be another problem

The most interesting part about this is how some of the most weird and possibly useless Steam features came together for this device, like the controller configurations. They've been in Steam for years but no one really cared until now. The UI is also very similar to Big Picture, and there was definitely some expertise used from building the Steam Controller.

I'm really upset that you didn't point out, elaborate and showcase what truly sets it apart from any other product in this category out there. The absolutely brilliant, integrated, dare I say NEXT GEN controller that goes far above and beyond anything that has ever existed. It allows you to play pretty much any game that doesn't have native controller support or wasn't designed with controller in mind. There are tools available within Steam to set up controller for any specific game just the way you want. You can make Age of Empires or Homeworld VERY playable if you stop treating trackpads as if they were laptop trackpad, a lousy mouse substitute. You can assign button to move cursor to desired location while button is held while constraining it to specified area and moves back cursor to original location on release. You can program trackpad to be solely controlling your camera location via minimap interaction. You can navigate mouse menus with ease. You can have pie selection menus for quick access to all your necessary shortcuts. It's AMAZING. Or simple modifications like adding gyro aiming to games that don't support it, making macros for controls - why hold X button to sprint in Shadow of Mordor if controller can engage X button for you as soon as you hit the outer rim with analog stick? Why press X+B to perform finisher if you can tap the paddle underneath? You want gyro aiming to only be available when you're aiming down sights or draw the bow string? Nothing simpler, make gyro only activated when L2 (or whatever) is held. Oh you don't like where functions are assigned by default? By all means, swap it however you like. You're NOT left at the mercy and whims of game developers. Now if, like in Spiderman, Steam Input implementation gets popularized, this will be moved even further into making customizability out of this world because then instead of assigning specific key presses to buttons, you will be assigning game functions - this is HUGE.

Had it for almost 6 months and I’ve spent maybe more than 100 hours alone playing Sunset Overdrive, New Vegas, Max Payne 3, Def Jam FFNY, etc. Recently put W10 on an SD card and now can run MW2 at damn near 60 plus getting Fortnite challenges done on my lunch break is so much less nerve racking as someone who has the BP. Perfect device for me even though I don’t travel. Fighting games like MK1, SFV, and Multiversus run perfectly on Deck which try to compare MK11 from Switch to Deck and you soon figure out why I gave away my Switch. Perfect device and is my #1 favorite handheld with the Vita in 2nd

Now there are TONs of PC games on storage AND thousands of ROMs/ ISOs on my 256GB micro SD. I am an SFF PC enthusiast, handheld gaming enthusiast, and a retro emulation enthusiast. I solely use it as a console, and I use it more than my xbox or PS4 because I already have 100+ deck verified games in my library, whereas I only have a handful of games on either xbox or PS4. Over a million steam decks have been shipped as of October, and I can see this being a success that Valve will continue investing in. I do hope in 5-9 years a Steam Deck 2 will be released with more powerful specs+ slightly longer battery life, but for now, it is powerful enough to play everything I have tried.

It let me finally fully enjoy okami which has inverted camera controls by default and can't be switched in game but can be switched through the steam deck. Also for me atleast it's easier to hold the deck for a long time than it is for the switch since the switch is completely flat it just feels weird to hold. The sleep feature also helps alot with going for stupid high rounds in cod zombies since you can literally take a multiple day break then come back and continue like nothing happened

Got both, absolutely have the uptick of use with the Deck since it arrived, the thing that keeps me using it also is that the Switch is OLED and better on my eyes. Totally get it though. That case it comes with too. Holy, I wasn't expecting them to have such a nice case included with the Deck.
Another cool thing is it's pretty easy to upgrade it. That has me super psyched because they have hall effect replacement stick available, not from Valve, but, it's not hard to upgrade it either, just need to desolder and resolder one wire.
Also, if the game you wanna play on the Steam Deck that has Denuvo, it won't play with linux proton, so, good luck with that, it's sort of a drawback but, personally, I try to avoid buying games with Denuvo, so, for me at least, it's not that big of a deal.
Also, the sound from he device is pretty crazy. I didn't expect the sound quality of the Steam Deck to be so full, but it was and I appreciate it. My only concern is that if I pause one game on my pc, pick up the deck to go drop a Steaming deuce, I have to turn the deck into offline mode to do so or Steam will threaten to shut off my otther game... OKAY, I get it, that's a feaure to limit multiple people from playing on the same account with different computers simultaneously, but common valve, at least give us the incentive of being able to count whatever game we're playing on the deck as +1 or something. I mean, there's a reason I bought and installed Dome Keeper on the Deck, it's good crapper play material, but not something I'd run on the main rig.

"To me it is and will always be considered a root kit and malware too" That sounds really bad. It is like saying TH-cam manages my taxes really well, it is just objectively wrong. It isn't like I could see it fitting into the category of malware (the DRM not anticheat. most games don't run the anti cheat) because the drm isn't interfering with the computer's normal functioning (as from webster) or stealing data and damaging the system (as from Cisco). Most anticheats are kernel level, including (probably) the most popular easy anti cheat.
Although I can say this, it won't matter in the long run because media says Denuvo and DRM is bad so most people will blindly believe it, and it seems like you won't change your opinion no matter what is said. I'd rather the issue with Denuvo be societal issues like whether you own the game or not, not constantly spat out complaints like it ruins performance in games (there are literally few games that actually have reduced performance and it is because of bad or rushed devs)

22:00 Those other competitors cost like $1200+ and are just rendered worthless due to that price. There's a limit to how much you can sell a handheld. With $1200, you can just build a PC with 10x the performance, or get a laptop (which is also somewhat portable), and still out perform those handhelds. Those handhelds are for people who have thousands of $$$ lying around and nothing better to invest it into
Going beyond the $500 price tag on a handheld, defeats its whole purpose. Unless you strictly want/need the portability aspect, there are significantly better alternatives at that price that'll offer better performance and visuals
And putting Windows on your Steam Deck, especially Windows 11, is like buying a 32gb HDD for your gaming PC just bcuz it's cheaper than a 1TB m.2 SSD
