    This is why I like Federer more than all other players. Some of the other GOATs play like machines. Strong, efficient, ruthless. But Federer plays like he is *playing*. He plays like an artist. Others use efficiency of a few shots. This guy uses creativity and plays like a hundred different shots. Is he talented? Sure. But it's still such an amazing experience to watch such tennis.
    Baseline battlers are great. But this, right here, is one of a kind. This is special.

      Returning a serve is difficult stuff. We all know Federer is a great returner. His block return off the backhand is second to none...
      But to run into the box and still return 120mph serves is stuff of legend. Most players would be pressing their backs against the walls. Federer is picking these balls barely off the bounce. I can’t even fathom the level of eye hand coordination to be able to do this...
      The man is the greatest ever. Pure talent.

    Can you imagine Roger with everything we got strong at a moment of his career but at the same time ?
    His forehand and stamina from his 2005-2006 period, his serve, his backhand from 2017, SABR, his serve, his volley, his good movements... It'd be nice.

    • @SAMTHEMANTHATCAN
      @SAMTHEMANTHATCAN 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Rafa will always be my fave because i enjoy his style the most but what you said is the reason i think Federer is probably the G.O.A.T. If you take the best version of all his traits then he would be nearly unbeatable. If he had the backhand that he developed later on way back in 2006/08 he probably would of won all the GS during that period. Now we see Nadal developing strengths to beat Djokovic that he didnt have earlier on in his career like a better serve, drop shots, coming to the net more and the ability to play less agressive against Novak forcing Djokovic to generate the power and angles during a game.

    Chip and charge against modern servers? Impressive.

    • @kcazzzzz
      @kcazzzzz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      its a modified version of the chip & charge. fed runs in much earlier than the normal chip and charge, particularly when the opponent just toss the ball in the air and his eyes just shifted up into the air. the usual tactic will be waiting close to the baseline, while for fed's version, he is already near the service box when the opponent hits the serve. also fed usually hit the return with a forehand or backhand on the rise instead of the slice return like the normal chip & charge. all these adds up to the ball returning much faster to the opponent's side compared to the original chip & charge, giving them less time to react, which will make them produce a weak shot which can be vollied away easily

    As others have said, Nadal and Djokovic have ended up with more Grand Slams, but Federer will always be the GOAT. He played such a sublime, beautiful, elegant, attacking, risk-taking game and still got 20 Grand Slam titles. Tennis is so boring these days. You could conceivably program a robot to play how these baseline players play. Of course, the occasional drop shot and foray to the net make these robots seem human sometimes.

    It's funny, you can clearly see the strategy behind when he hit the SABR. Each time he was either A) down 40-0 or 40-15 , making the shot "worth the risk," or B) Up so much in the set it didn't matter (5-1 against Anderson, 5-1 against Querrey.)
    The only time he hit the SABR in critical moments was against Novak. It was almost like all the other times were just practice for the Novak ones. He hit it at the beginning of the second set in the US Open, and also up 3-1 in the first set tiebreaker in Cinci. The Cinci one was my favorite. You can see how big a risk it was and how huge a payoff it was, too. Federer was elated, Novak looked completely taken by surprise and completely deflated by it. I'd bet Novak studied the film of those SABRs and thought, no way he hits this shot at a critical moment. Then, boom. Awesome to watch.

Loads of fun when it works, seeing the absolute look of surprise on your opponent's face, with them not expecting to have to pull a passing shot out of nothing like that. Of course, a fair bit of time it is i who looks like an idiot if i try this but the return is weak and my opponent just hits an easy lob or pass.

    This is something nadal and djokovic cannot do, or if they can would not be on this level. and federer makes it a part of his game, incredible. I am not a Fedex fan, I like all 3 of them and if I had to chose, Nadal would be my favorite.

      Sabr is one of the two parts of faith. It teaches to remain spiritually steadfast and to keep doing good actions in the personal and collective domain, specifically when facing opposition or encountering problems, setbacks, or unexpected and unwanted results

      It was a charity match (Match for Africa) rather than anything official. In those types of matches no one cares. There are some exhibition matches on youtube where the player even gets the ball kids to play a point for them
