    My car is a 1989 320i also, my diff is 3.91 open, its whining when driving and when decelerating, do anyone know if i would replace the bearings will this be a fix for whining?

      Hi, it's possible that the bearings are worn but it usually is due to the gears that are worn and you have to adjust them like we did in the video. It solved my whining noise as well.

      We have had a lot of demand for installing the kit. The problem is when you count parts, labour and machining you end up near the cost of an oem lsd-differential. The only affordable way is if you can rebuild it yourself.

    Make and model of the torque meter used to measure pinion preload?

    • @thebrojectlist6881

      It's a Park Tool TW-1, it goes to 7Nm on both sides, very handy tool

    The liquid is an lsd? I used 75w140, what you had is very thin?

      The "LS" means that the oil is suitable for use with a limited slip differential. If you use regular gear oil it wil compromise the proper working of the lsd. And if you look in the maintenance manual of your BMW it says you should use 80w90 in the diff anyway.

    Did u shorten the flanges by 4 mm?

    • @thebrojectlist6881
      @thebrojectlist6881  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What flanges are you referring to? You don't have to modify anything to fit this. We had to change the shims that preload the diff bearings because we fitted new bearings :p hope this was what you ment

      @@thebrojectlist6881 Yeah, u r right..i forgot u did that. Flanges are what u bolt rear axle on. But since u putted new bearings and shims they are further out i guess. I have the same kit to put on the same diff. But for me it would be for regular driving, i have a lot of snow in the winter so LS diff is a must have.
      How is your diff holding up. Is everything ok with it?

      @@b.1z966 So far it's holding up very good. The car isn't daily driven so i couldn't comment in longtime wear. But it definitely still makes a noticable difference compared to the open diff.
      And No there is no modification needed to install this. everything fits inside the standard diff cage.

    where are you guys located to get this done ?

  • @vitsv7188
    @vitsv7188 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So the diferential is simple? No LSD , and with this kit you do the conversation?

    • @thebrojectlist6881
      @thebrojectlist6881  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it was a stock open differential which I converted to progressive lsd with the kit from racing diffs.

      It's holding up very well so far. Still noticeable on wet roads or loose underground. But havent driven it that much for the last few weeks because of the ridiculous fuel prices😅

      @@thebrojectlist6881 on dry road does it still drift? Or does still one wheel go?

    • @thebrojectlist6881

      @@sergiocalta2838 when you cruise it is a normal open diff but when you get on it, it will lock up and drift even on dry roads. This car is quite a handful at the moment because it doesn't have powersteering. I might install a powersteering rack of a newer BMW because it's like wrestling a bear if you drive it hard. No regrets of installing the kit so far.
