    I live in humid south Florida, so I save the little moisture-absorbing silica packs that comes in packaging and throw them in gun boxes as an added protection. Those little packs can be purged of absorbed moisture by putting them in the oven at low heat (about 200 degrees) for a short period of time.

      Some of those cases have a valve on them for moisture control, but dessicant packs are always a good idea. You can buy silica gel at a science supply and make your own. Get the kind that changes color when they start getting full of moisture and you can dry it out in an oven and put it back in.

      @tdata545 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Some can even be microwaved (obviously not the ones in tins). THOUGH, I haven't had much luck with that method. Also probably should bump the oven up to at least 220, above the boiling point of water, but not too much so that it should burn the cloth-like material that some packs come in.

    • @zora_tech
      @zora_tech 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I was gonna make a comment about how you can get silica gel that you can dry out. But it's best to get the food safe ones if you are drying them in your oven. Because some of them are made of some pretty nasty chemicals. I believe Amazon has the color changing food safe ones that work pretty good. If you have the money I would also recommend getting a mini oven that has a circulation fan just to be on the safe side. So you don't end up running or mixing anything with the oven you use to cook food

    Keep silica packs throughout the layers to remove trapped moisture in the case. The valve works both ways it keeps both moisture out and in at the same time. Just an idea.

    Nice video I did that to one of the rifle cases for my CZ 457 rifle I did not use plasty dip gorilla mix the same product was cheaper. I did it in two layers. After was all done. I glued the two layers together.
    I did mine, about two years ago after multiple trips to the range still looks like new. I have done it to one of the smaller pistol cases.
    The only thing I did really different is I am able to get foam cut to whatever size I need and whatever thickness, I want from a local upholstery supplier that carries multiple styles and colors of foam. Very good video. I’ll give it a 10 on a reading scale.

      Just a tip if you’re going to do a rifle case depending on your rifle for a different size thicknesses the first layer was completely cut out in the second layer I believe was intact no cutting so depends on the thickness of your rifle go with the proper thickness.
      I have used that pluck style before for sensitive photography equipment. It seems to break down if you can find a supplier for an upholstery business and can cut your foam to size I would go with the upholstery foam seems to be a better quality

      I did not cut mine all the way through for more protection in case it’s dropped and the other thing I’ve seen videos people doing this if you’re carrying the handle and you drop the case by accident most people have their scope facing down so if you drop it, all the pressure is going on the scope so if you open it up, it looks odd. The way it’s facing where the scope is toward the handle. Keep up the good work you did nice work.

    Foam is not abrasive. When buffing a car the compound you use is the abrasive. Foam traps dirt and sand that then can cause abrasions.

      Not gonna argue with you, foam can be an abrasive though.

  • @archangel20031

    Just get that spray contact glue ready, wrap the gun in a garbage bag to make sure the glue does not touch it, then wrap the gun/garbage bag in a thick flannel bed sheet, then spray the glue, then press the wrapped gun into the case where you picked out the foam and the foam should stay in place as it now has a flannel liner between the gun and the foam keeping the foam perfectly in place.
    If you can find it, a nice felt liner would be even better!

    Did a similar project a number of years ago using a pelican case. While the foam is denser than the HF cases, i also used plastic dip spray to seal and close the precut gaps. These case setups do look pretty professional and make a nice range kit.

    Having done the plasti-dip on multiple cases with pick-n-pluck foam, the more coats the better for longevity. The cost of additional cans far more beneficial to purchasing new foam. Highly recommend getting the spray can trigger handles. Prevents fingers and eventual hand cramping from pressing the cans to spray. Found out that on one of the large Pelican cases I sprayed...lol

    • @RandoWayne
      @RandoWayne  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The correct way to use a hard rifle case is to throw the foam away and put a soft rifle case inside instead. This way you can leave the heavy hard case in your car or at your camp site and only carry the soft case with you to the range or whatever.

    The problem with cheaper gun cases, is the light weight overtly soft foam that comes with them. I've gotten a cheap case from my LGS with that same large square foam and within a short amount of time, my handguns tore it up to the point where I had to try and reinforce everything with gorilla tape. Now I just get pelican cases.

I feel it has a greater chance of doing harm to your weapons than good.
