To get an EASY starting 2-stroke, you MUST tune the air screw. Learn how to easily tune the air screw on a 2 stroke carb in just a few minutes - motocrosshideout.com/carb/
This is great thanks. My daughter’s 65cc KTM is a bear to start. The mechanic gets it to start fine and end I get it home it never starts the next day. So frustrating.
Thanks, and great question. I actually made another quick video on warming up a 2 stroke. Check that out here and let me know what you think: th-cam.com/video/KK7-84Gai1o/w-d-xo.html
To start my 2 stroke kawi I do 3 priming kicks then it takes me about 10-15 kicks to get it started while choked and then it will run completely fine all day is it normal for it to take that many kicks because from what I’ve read it’s not it should take 3-4 kicks
Yeah, that's a few more than it should if it's properly tuned. It's hard to know for sure, but my first two thoughts are: it's not jetted properly, or the engine compression is starting to get low.
I’m new to the dirt bike scene, I have a 2001 RM250 when I put it into 1st gear it started revving up like crazy with the choke closed. I then turned it off then turned it back on and everything was fine once I put it into first gear, I took it for a spin once I put it into 2nd gear and again it began to rev itself high then shortly I turned it off. What can be the cause?
First, welcome to dirt biking! That's a powerful bike to start out on. It sounds like it could possibly be the throttle cable that's binding up or perhaps and air leak around the intake/carb. Let us know what you find out.
@legitmind101 same thing would happen on my 2000 rm250. There was a hole in the coating on my throttle cable and it got rusty so I'd get ghost throttle randomly in the trails. Wd40 always fixed it up
I have a 1980s Yamaha twin 200cc two stroke. It has one carb. Points ignition. It will start off a bump. But i only get grumbles on the kick starter? Its showing 120psi on each pot. Has spark and i can smell fuel.
Ive been having problems put in the bush trying to stsrt my kx 250 after a out 20 to 30 min after riding just taking a break for a minute and it took me 20 minutes of kicking and throttle no throtle choke no choke after a while i smelled gas n saw some dripping out my over flow and then it stsrted after 5 min of kicking
Usually when the kick starter kicks back on me it's because I have the throttle open. So I would make sure that the throttle slide (in the carb) is full closing. Also: -Make sure there's a small amount of freeplay in the throttle cable -If the idle screwed is turned in too far, that could potentially cause this -Make sure there's no air leaks (loose carb clamps or cracked air/intake boot) Let us know when you figure it out so others can benefit!

Great info here thanks,
Also extra thanks for having no annoying back ground music.
Ha, thanks for watching, Robbi!
Thank you

Let us know if these tips helped in any way. It should not be a bear to start!
@@MotocrossHideout thank you so much
good tips,We got 8th trick now, install our electric start kit to make it easy !😆
Cool, just watched your electric start vid on the KX85 :)
nice tips. Why do 2 strokes bog down when you rev them cold? and once they warm up they will hit powerband no problem. What’s the reason for this

Itss bc the engines is not alive barely waking up 🤣
Nice vid man found some useful tips

Make sure when your done ridding you dont leave fuel in the carb. Shut the fuel off and let the bike pretty much run out of fuel. @evanharrison6378

id check the throttle cable, some fraying in the cable might cause it to get stuck
Air leak

How does it run once started and warmed up? Has it always done this?
@@MotocrossHideout I only got the bike 4-5 days ago. It runs good when warmed.
If the engine isn't worn out, then the jettign could be off. Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/dzFzWIZsuDg/w-d-xo.html
I think it helps to put 1 foot on the stand so you can throw more weight into your kicks
For sure - just make sure the stand is strong enough to handle it! (Speaking from experience, lol)

Sounds like either the carb float level is too high or the float needle and seat is allowing gas to leak by.
