  • It's time for a project car, and we've got some plans for this 2011 WRX that's racked up quite a bit of miles. We're going over how this car compares to my 2019 STi, is the WRX engine healthy, and what are the ultimate plans for this car. Curious to see how things turn out....Subscribe to follow the build!

Can clearly tell you're putting a lot of effort into this. Using a non-phone camera, using a lapel mic, lots of B-roll with voice overs, and it seems well scripted. Subbed. Keep it up dude.

This is filmed / presented like a channel with 100k views. I’ve not subscribed to something new in so long but here I am. Looking forward to future updates.

Nice job on the editing, quick and to the point. We are on similar paths. I just bought a 2013 WRX hatch 1 month ago. One owner, completely stock, 114k miles. Pretty clean overall. Old/cheap enough to justify buying it as a toy/project, but not so old that it’s a pile of junk. I kind of have a 3 year plan in mind:
2024: go through all the maintenance items, do paint correction/ceramic coat. Paint the wing and hood scoop that are faded. Intake, downpipe, pro tune. Enjoy the car, auto cross it once or twice, take it on some fun road trips. Research and learn more about the platform.
2025: STI 6 speed swap with r180 diff, axles, and DCCD
2026: build the motor. I’m thinking AIG 550 short block. Not sure after that. Probably turbo and methanol injection. Trying to avoid e85 as it’s scarce where I live. Thinking I’d like to be 400 whp minimum, maybe up to 500.
With all that said, I just did plugs and compression test. Mine were all 107-109. I know that’s kind of low but they were consistent. I think it’s just my cheap Amazon tester. With that said, #1 plug had some buildup on it and the threads had oil on it. Thinking I’m getting some oil in that cylinder. Compression is as good as the other cylinders though. It doesn’t smoke, exhaust doesn’t smell. Maybe valve seals. Long story short, I don’t think that data affects my plans at all. I’ll probably only put 2000 miles a year on it, surely it can make it 4000 more miles before a motor build. If it doesn’t I guess I’ll do the motor before the transmission swap.
I’ll definitely be following your progress!

Sounds like you have a solid plan. 107-109 are pretty low. But it sounds like eventually, you'll build the motor anyway.
If you're on discord feel free to hop in ours! Would be curious how your car develops. The comment is pinned with the link!

I just picked up a 2013 hatch, and I noticed that floaty loose feeling on the steering too. What did you do to tighten that up?

      Congrats!
I ended up upgrading to a 2015+ STi rack, upgrading bracing, bushings and linkage…and it was noticeably tighter. My rack was leaking so it needed to be fixed anyway. Win win.
      Made a video about it:

What a great video! You're doing something right when someone who knows nothing about cars (me) can thoroughly enjoy your content.
I'll echo the comments from @MrRyanTrott's regarding how super pro this video looks and @rush2redline acknowledgment of the considerable effort it takes.
You are clearly in your element and love doing this, which is what I dig seeing the most. I watched the "THREE Stories That Define Subaru Car Culture" video too and you did a such a great job with the interviews. I had no idea there was such a culture around Subarus!
I'm subbed and looking forward to more. KEEP GOING!

The Subaru culture is massive for sure and it's a good community. Appreciate the sub and will def have more coming soon!
