  • I tried out soldering paper clips for the first time to scratch build a roll cage for this Hot Wheels Volkswagen MK2 in the style of post apocalyptic Mad Max. Made for the table top game Gaslands as an entry into the Gaslands UK Car of the Month competition!

Awesome job turning that Golf into an off-road beast. The 3D printed fuel tank in the back was a very cool touch. Though I think you missed an opportunity to add some dune buggy style exhausts weaving through the roll cage out the back.
Outstanding work (especially for a first attempt with a dollar store solderimg iron!) creating a paper clip roll cage. I've used clips to make bumpers and brush guards, but haven't attempted a full body cage...yet.

Great idea, looks awesome. I used 1mm thick wire to make a roll cage for a Hot Wheels Imparable as the car pretty much has no interior. I think the solder and paperclips looks much more neat.

Excellent work, it turned out very realistic almost as if someone just took an old Volkswagen and turned it into a Rock Crawler. Great job on keeping It's original paint, It's always hard because one mistake can ruin it. I really wouldn't recommend paper clips as they are not easy to stick with solder. Using copper or something else like brass might be a better idea.
