I had a gsx 1000s and traded it in on a used 2017 with all the gizmos and saved a bundle, couldn't be happier thus far. It's everything the Gixess wasn't and as im pushing 60 & can relate to the growing need of quality\comfortable ride. Your thoughts i believe is a very fair appraisal.
i had a 2018 gsx1000z and traded it for a 2017 r100r with everything but the quick-shifter. Honestly the gixess came unstuck quite quickly, while R was just smooth as on any corner at speed. The old felt every bump in the road and no amount of adjustment would fix it. In user set to road and the rest Dynamic was very reassuring on our much less than smooth NZ roads. The R should have been my new purchase, oh well i'm happy now. I have a fast but not quick bike (3.2 sec to 100kms is not slow). Thanks for your 3yr thoughts.
Hi Grumpy… Good review, My personal toughts I have a R1200R 2014 prev. model to your bike, great bike but the reason why im trading it is that the seat is terribly hard as a brick, the position of my legs is too short & it has no gas gauge wich is very usfull in long trips, any way cuestión of personal views, congrats again for your review.
Well I see this was some time ago, but may be of use for others, motoscan app and an OBD2 scanner plus a cable adapter, both from Aliexpress for less than $15 for both, plus $30 for the app, will do everything you'll need.
Just watched your 20km and 30km videos of this bike. Looking at buying the exact same bike, same year, same color. Local seller is asking $10,500 USD including top and side cases, Premium pkg w/Dynamic ESA, and bark busters. It has 14,600 km on it. Any thoughts on what's a fair price to pay? Am I wise to buy one? Or look for something else? Will use it for leisure riding, running errands, probably won't put a ton of miles on it. Used to have an R1100S and that was too sporty for casual riding.
That seems like a good price. It’s a great all around bike, I did all kinds of rides with mine.. I liked it so much I bought another! Well, an RS, but same awesome motor
@@GrumpyMan Cool, thanks much. Just made an appointment for a test ride tomorrow morning. Stopping off at the bank on the way there. LOL BTW Montreal is my favorite city in the world. I'm sure I'll take a ride up there someday. I rode from San Francisco to Anchorage on my R1100S in 4 days. Man were my neck and wrists sore after that! (Was resting my chin on the tank going 141 mph almost the entire way across BC.)
Grumpy could you kindly tell me what gloves you are wearing, they look warm, protective, and long enough to wear over jacket cuffs... but hey if they're useless or inadequate for cold climates don't bother answering... thanks anyway.... BTW ride a 2016 R1200R and meets all my needs except ground clearance.
Hi there, have you considered the 2019 R1250R? Have you or are you planning to test-ride it? Aside from the power bump, they are coming with the new TFT display. I'm considering getting it... Thanks!

bmw went to common fork in 2015.....does that mean the proprietary fork they were using before is not that good?

This or speed twin 1200? I can't decide
Have you tried the new 1250R, by any chance?
No, but I just bought a 1250RS!
@@GrumpyMan why the RS and not another R?
@@alanbriggs7177 I wanted a bit better wind protection, and something a little sportier
@@GrumpyMan Wow, that means the R street brand is something really sweet. I am thinking about to trade my K800r to S1000r or R1200R(RS).
...some audio clipping when the bike is at speed on the freeway...otherwise awesome .
I have the same bike without the ESA and I love everything except for that gauge cluster, whoever designed that....?!
Thanks for the review, very informative, so want to find a used one($)for this Spring! New sub :-)
I'm glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and subbing!
And OH - btw thanks for sharing.
It’s $30,000 USD price for the 2016 r1200r bike in China 😭😭
扎心了老铁。这哥们4000美元是首付吗?没仔细听
Bmw always rips you off with servicing and optionals
A thousand curses on BMW..!!!! They have discontinued this bike............
hmmm, its not discontinued.. they just announced the 2019 model, better engine, but essentially the exact same bike.
Just a name change with the displacement change R1200R -> R1250R
