gawd I loved this show as a kid in the 60's. funniest ep was when they converted the garage into an apartment and there was one plug outlet, that if anyone plugged anything in it , the garage door would open 🤣 Funny funny show!
Eve Arden is the queen of the side look. When Kay stated singing, her expression said volumes. I remember this show as a kid, liked it then, still good 1960s fare.
These old shows show how great the good comedy actors were at stuff like 'reaction shots' to somebody else's punchline. Hardly anybody on TV now even knows what that phrase means!
Haven't seen this show since its original broadcasts in 1967 thru 1969. Always thought it was hilarious. It's good to know it still holds up. Kaye and Eve play so well off each other. It's not as dated as you would think. With it coming from Desilu like many quality programs of the time these were filmed at the Desilu Studios. This show was one of the first filmed before a live audience.
Not sure why I have a humongulous crush on Eve Arden . She is so awesome . I love Kaye Ballard too ! I fell in love with this silly show when Decades did a weekend binge
This show did not get the accolades it deserved. It's hilarious! I especially love the episode when the gals get locked in a Dept store and had only one dime to use for a phone call. Eve dials the wrong number. instead of getting her husband, she awakens Desi Arnaz in Barcelona. They convince him to call the States and relay their demise to the hubby. Arnaz converses with the accent he used on I love Lucy and it's truly histerical! Not sure if that's season 1 or 2. Lots of great comedic genius and timing.
Haven' t seen this well-cast show since I was a kid. Look forward to MeTV reruns starting this week. When it comes to delivering withering sarcasm, No one does it better than Eve Arden.
We had orange carpeting. Green couch and an orange lamp. In the '60's. Gold was very popular. My mom painted one wall in the living room gold. A big gold mirror over the gold couch. She even painted the wrought iron railing gold.
I never heard of this show before seeing on the MeTV lineup but I'm so glad it's going to be showing regularly. It's going into my regular DVR rotation along with 'That Girl' and most of the programming on Antenna TV. Just makes me miss the classic Nick-at-Nite, though. :-( That's how I was exposed to so many great classic shows as a kid!
This may have been Eve’s show but Kaye stole the spot light! She was great! Last month when I started this show she walked in, I’m thinkin who’s this lady? By the end of that 1st episode I was a fan!!
I just found this show on tubi about 3 days ago and I fell in love 🥰 with Kaye Ballard then I found a song by her OMG her voice was so sweet...rip eve arden
This is how people acted ...haha back in the dark ages ! Love the old sets.... everything...total time capsule .. only thing missing is the weird theme
Wow, this is the most footage I've seen of this since I watched re-runs of this in the 70s. I remembered this wrong. I thought the situations were unrealistically silly, but this is exactly how a man walks into a trap in a conversation about other women. Shutting up is the only way.
Darn, I already bought the DVD set a week ago because it was cheap enough. I'd ask how you are watching all the episodes and extras on the internet, but I already spent the 35 bucks so doesn't matter! XD
I love when Kay picks a fight with Roger (which happened in pretty much every episode). She was an Italian spitfire! In an interview with Eve Arden years ago, she stated (without actually naming him) that 'the first actor to play Roger' was extremely difficult to get along with - so they fired him.
He held out for more money for season 2, and wouldn't budge, so he was 'released', according to imdb. He was far better than Richard Deacon, I think. He might not have deserved more than the others ,but maybe they all should have gotten more for the 2nd season
@@bkynbiker19 You're right, it was about money. It was customary to give all the cast a raise for the second season of a show that was picked up. Proctor & Gamble was cheap and refused. The three other cast members even conspired to chip in to give Roger his raise, but he refused on principle. Richard Deacon was under contract to Desi Arnaz already (he had done an unsold pilot with Carol Channing) and Desi used him. Deacon was a superb comic actor playing fussbudgets but totally unsuitable to play Roger.
@@akrenwinkle Exactly! Richard wasn't right for the part at all plus he had no chemistry with Kaye but Roger was perfect for the role and had plenty of chemistry with Kaye.
@@bkynbiker19 It's a shame they didn't get the raise they all deserved and I agree with you Roger was perfect for the role and Richard was missed casted. It wasn't the same once season 2 started without Roger. After everybody (except Roger) took a pay cut they cancelled the show right before the third season.
This had to be one of the better episodes. As a kid I watched this program in its first reruns, I think. Daytime, mornings, probably in summer when school was out. Never forgot that theme music. Loved Kaye Ballard! Years later I must've been talking about this memory when a friend said, yeah, he knew that theme music, but the opening of the show was all he ever got to see - his mom would immediately change the channel. I recall even as a kid this show was all about the generation gap, yet their children looked even by the early '70s pretty darned staid, and the parents were more interested in the wild new world, definitely more California wild and exaggerated than my world back home.
Nice trip back down memory lane---this show had a cast camaraderie and freshness that still holds up, better than most sixties sitcoms.....despite the clothes and furniture that are in colors not found in nature-----
@@jaceydade9748 Late 1960s. This set was ready for the '70s (dark wood, heavy ornamentation) but the show ran only two seasons, from '67-'69. Many of us were getting their first color TVs around this time, so I guess as Mitch Walker notes above, NBC was heavy on the colors.
It's amazing how much Ballard acts like Lucille Ball. Notice how when she asks her husband about Elizabeth Taylor how she extends her facial expression at the end of her question. Lucille Ball did that all the time on I Love Lucy.
MeTV (one of those new 'nostalgia' broadcast networks) showed a bunch of episodes a few months ago. My favorite one is the 'meatballs' one. : ) I think this show was funnier and fresher than The Lucy Show, especially after Vance left for good. The theme song is great too!
Anybody remember in the show when Kaye Ballard would refer to her old job as a singer with Ozzie Snick's orchestra. Ozzie Snick's was played by real life band leader & TV star Ozzie Nelson !!!
Question; I loved this show, but I just found out there was a pilot with Ms Arden but instead of Ms Ballard (who's one of the funniest women, RIP), it had Ms Ann Sothern, no slouch, there (gorgeous when she was young. Still had those amazing eyes). The reason Ms Sothern was not cast was it was felt her style and Ms Arden's were too similar (a laid-back, droll style). THAT I'd LOVE to see. Anyone?

butterflygal D The cast was contractually entitled to raises for season 2. But the show was marginally rated and was a borderline renewal, so Desi Arnaz asked the cast to continue for season 2 at their original salaries. Carmel wouldn’t agree, so he left the show.

Excellent. I have the entire two seasons on DVD. watched every one. Desi's last hurrah, but a very fine show. I like it much better than I love Lucy. Regarding the decor and furniture, everyone had it like that, creativity, color, it was excellent.
I always liked Ms. Arden's voice inflection.
I watched this show new, as a child. It was good, clean humor...no cussing or crass words. I always liked Eve Arden.

The era in which green, brown and orange were believed to be complimentary colors.
To be honest I’d dig it. The contrast in other colors made it look good

My mom and I loooved Kay Ballard's character.

Roger C. Carmel allowed Kaye to poke, punch, whack and slap him as part of the comedy. Richard joined the crew and quickly put an end to that stuff.
