The real question is not why Americans love their flag so much as why people in other countries do not feel the same way about theirs. All countries have overcome enemies and evolved from their beginnings. Growing up from the earth with spilt blood as their water, freedom as their sun, and unity as the flower. The flag is only a cloth but what that cloth stands for is everything. That's what we are obsessed about with our flag it is us and those who sacrificed everything for us.
I think that is because almost all other countries except Canada, Australia, New Zealand pledge allegiance to their ancestral home land. It's where they and their ancestors come from, while in the USA you don't truly pledge your loyalty to a place; you instead pledge yourself to the idea of the American government. We pledge allegiance to the flag and to the republic it stands for, not the physical place. This is why people move to American to become Americans, while no one moves to China to become Chinese. Adopting the flag into your life is part of becoming American.

It was the first country of its kind, and the flag became synonymous with these “American” ideals that much of the world began to adopt only after we did. Also, Europeans especially have a strange aversion to patriotism. To them, it conjures up images of Hitler and the Nazi party. However, I think many conflate nationalism (the bad sort) with patriotism. The American flag stands for everything we hold dear, and reminds us of the sacrifice some have paid for our freedoms. The flag is also common in disaster areas as a symbol of resilience. Look at pictures from major tornado damage and you’ll probably find one or two from that tornado’s aftermath that show the flag flying proudly over the destruction.

In the U.S., being patriotic about the entire country is considered a good trait. However, much of the youth (typically millennials and younger) don't feel the same about the U.S., and feel it is a bad country. I don't think there's anything wrong with loving your country (if you are choosing to be a citizen of it), but many Americans are blind to the fact that there is no best country, and that they are not the best country. Also, this video has a few factual errors, you can see what they are in the other comments.
America would be a better country if it stopped forcing it's ideals and economic models onto other countries in order to enhance it's own interests, especially when it's labelled as freedom. Freedom isn't bullets and bombs. America hated the British colonies, the empirical rule. Yet America's model of colonisation is one of control through debt. The country retains it's sovereignty and pays America for the privilege.

I'm from China and I've always loved the American flag. So many flags around the world are so dull and simple but the American flag looks so nice. Just recently purchased a lighter with the star spangled banner on it and I love it. :)
Yeah I do agree. However not only is it a pretty flag but it represents so much, the stars and stripes have deeper meanings as pointed out in the video. The real question is not why Americans love their flag so much as why people in other countries do not feel the same way about theirs. All countries have overcome enemies and evolved from their beginnings. Growing up from the earth with spilt blood as their water, freedom as their sun, and unity as the flower. The flag is only a cloth but what that cloth stands for is everything. That's what we are obsessed about with our flag it is us and those who sacrificed everything for us.
I think that is because almost all other countries except Canada, Australia, New Zealand pledge allegiance to their ancestral home land. It's where they and their ancestors come from, while in the USA you don't truly pledge your loyalty to a place; you instead pledge yourself to the idea of the American government. We pledge allegiance to the flag and to the republic it stands for, not the physical place.
This is why people move to American to become Americans, while no one moves to China to become Chinese. Adopting the flag into your life is part of becoming American.

The flag is also common in disaster areas as a symbol of resilience. Look at pictures from major tornado damage and you’ll probably find one or two from that tornado’s aftermath that show the flag flying proudly over the destruction.

I don't think you can make a doormat out of the flag. It's illegal to make the flag touch the ground or even tilt it any degree (made after the US Olympic team refused to tilt the flag 90 degree to Hitler). The flag can only be full or half or if in porch, 45 degree.

Nathan Sketch flag regulations are still law, you can't leave it outside during storms unless it is a storm flag. Also garrison flags are illegal to fly outside of military bases. You can't even leave it up at night unless their is a light shining on it. The supreme court only said burning the flag was protected under free speech, they didn't repeal flag regulation laws

Without the people, they are nothing and many refuse to accept that. The people do infact control the country. Plus no one owns a country, a country isn't own by a specific person.

In the U.S., being patriotic about the entire country is considered a good trait. However, much of the youth (typically millennials and younger) don't feel the same about the U.S., and feel it is a bad country. I don't think there's anything wrong with loving your country (if you are choosing to be a citizen of it), but many Americans are blind to the fact that there is no best country, and that they are not the best country. Also, this video has a few factual errors, you can see what they are in the other comments.
America would be a better country if it stopped forcing it's ideals and economic models onto other countries in order to enhance it's own interests, especially when it's labelled as freedom. Freedom isn't bullets and bombs. America hated the British colonies, the empirical rule. Yet America's model of colonisation is one of control through debt. The country retains it's sovereignty and pays America for the privilege.
