Today's van life uk travel adventure is a full van tour of my tiny home on wheels. My VW Transporter T4 has been my on and off home since 2016.
It's a 1998 1.9 turbo diesel so it's not the fastest van around but I didn't buy it for speed. This van has been super economical and super reliable.
I bought this little van back in 2016 and started off by having side windows installed. This was done by Salisbury Camper Conversions. Then followed the bulkhead removal, and a new floor was installed complete with a dark floor covering. The plywood walls and ceiling were covered in carpet and the van was insulated. They then built me some furniture. I had a rock and roll bed fitted by Streamline up in Birmingham. They also fitted retrimmed front seats to match. After a quick trip to Scotland I cam back and had the pop top fitted.
It's the most expensive tent I've ever bought but I'm glad I had it done.
I only use the pop top when I go to a campsite though and never use it when I'm wild camping.

I couldn’t agree more about the diesel heater, absolute game changer in the colder months we use our T5 all year round which would be impossible without one, we have an Eberspacher mounted under the floor so takes up no space and is silent, fuel use in about 5 hours per litre on low and power use is negligible. Nice van 👍🏻🇬🇧

Hello mate, we parked next to you in weymouth harbour car park, got ticketed for being there in a van. Ive spoke to a third individual who also had a vw van who also got ticketed for parking there, thought id reach out and let you know we plan on fighting the ticket based on the vans we were in not being classed as “motorhomes” as per the sign specifics, as well as the outward facing signage having no wording to explain what the differences were between the exact same image of a van in a red circle with a line thru it and a van in a green circle 🤷♂️ also swb t4s are under the 4.8metres (at 4.7m) also specified on the sign. Hope you fight it too. Its clearly a nice little earner for dorset council as it stands.
I wondered if you had got a ticket or left before they got there. We have parked there multiple times and never had a problem. Yes I’m fighting it too. I saw loads of T4,T5 and T6 with no tickets. What about a caravelle ?
I might actually make a video about it. Hope we get let off or I’m never going to Weymouth again !
Thats exactly my sentiment towards it, I was fuming and said to my other half that if id of been there to see us get those tickets id of gladly paid it to have the opportunity to have a word with the car park ticket attendant and video him attempting to explain it to me. Either its going to go my way or im going to end up with the equivalent value in signage from said car park as “man cave art” for my garage. Eithers fine by me 😂
Update on this, they took pictures thru our side window of the “bedding” not the bed (as the bed was not set up/laid), the bedding and also our little sink unit in the back, keeping in mind it said vans altered for cooking, sleeping, & eating etc. with all that said id be interested to see how they got images of yours given it had darkly tinted windows and was in the seating format when you guys went of into weymouth. Hello again. So today marks the day after the 6weeks they had to get back to us in regards to the car parking fine and we have heard nothing- presume its done and dusted and the appeal was successful. Any luck your end?

Just watching your vid and you make reference to a lot of stuff you DONT use, wouldn't you be better with just a van a bed and poptop?
My self build van will be different to this one and I will put up videos as I build it. Bed will be a priority, no pop top and maybe no fridge. I’ve learned a bit since getting this van converted back in 2016.
Currently enjoying my berlingo with boot jump. However if I chose to upgrade in size, rough guide, how much would a comverted van like this be, similar age ? You talking £15k
Probably £10 if you wanted one with a pop top. Around £6k without.
Mine cost me £11k for everything you see here. I bought it as a panel van and had it converted
The market for T4 vans is a minefield! Lots of scammers on the usual platforms selling pictures! 10k can buy you a good rust free example or a rot box! I have had loads of different vehicles and the hunt for a nice T4 was the most interesting. Think I may keep mine till I pop me cloggs!
After having the 1.9d non turbo t4, I assure you that your van is not the slowest.lol😂

@@davidwaterhouse2552 yes it’s the 800 special which is 1.9 TDI. In fairness the basic 1.9 non turbo would be the slowest but it’s not quick by any means
and i have the fastest a vr6 with 2.8 engine 200 ps
